    Kid friendly ipad settings are essential if you're feeling frustrated and battling with your child's screen. Maybe you'd also like to ensure that your child's iPad is a safe environment for learning and creating. This video covers three simple ways to access parental controls to monitor and maintain a safe digital experience for your kids.
    iPads are becoming more and more common in households especially amongst children and youth. Although technology can be frustrating as a parent, banning such devices can also put your child at an academic deficit when we consider how tech-savvy our world is becoming. I believe a better understanding of these devices is a simple way to ensure that technology is being used in a kid-friendly manner. Although many children think of iPads as toys, they are in fact very powerful tools for learning and creative exploration. Like many advances in technology, how these devices are used is up to the discretion of the user. It is up to parents and educators to monitor and teach appropriate uses of these devices to ensure a safe experience.
    This video covers:
    - How to create content restrictions available on the iPad.
    - How to put time limits and app limitations on iPads during use.
    - An app that will allow you to remotely control and monitor children's devices from your smartphone.

    This is the first of The Awareness Module's videos created specifically for TH-cam.
    We'd love your feedback, please leave us a comment.
    Enjoy!

    I can not say thank you enough for caring enough about America’s children and their future to take the time to put out a video with so much good information that really hits the spot when it comes to knowing where to start to try to put some constraints on this beast we call internet. Thank you!! I am excited to see more content from you in the future on this subject. Thank you!!

    i love your videos. trying to learn more about how to setup an ipad for the kids. i have two kids(6 and 4) and to avoid fights i want to purchase each there own ipad. doing so, i want to do it as affordable as possible so i wont be going to the latest and greatest generation of ipads. i saw refurbished ipad 2's online for $55 a piece but then realized they only update to IOS 9.3.5. i know there are some differences and updates between the IOS's so my question is, is the IOS 12 and newer worth it with the updates they did to the parental controls? or do you feel that prior to that they were adequate? just trying to justify the cost difference. thank you in advance

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video has pretty much the same parental controls as older ipads. However, many apps that kids love may not work for the older ipads. For kids, that's a problem and you may be wasting the money because they won't use it because the games they want aren't available. The new parental controls are more robust, but the old ones are pretty good to. The main thing is limiting screen time. You can't do that with this older parental control. Hope that helps.

    hello, very usefull information, but I'd like to know if is there any way to block the "Settings" access/changes in Ipad... thanks for sharing

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Douglas tissot kawano, I’m not totally sure what you mean here, I believe you want to limit access to the settings menu. You can limit a lot of the settings by enabling the “restrictions” section under the “general” settings tab. You can’t completely remove the setting menu, but maybe you can tell me why and what you are specifically trying to restrict in the settings menu and we can figure it out. Cheers, thanks for watching.

    • @douglastissotkawano4730
      @douglastissotkawano4730 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for answering, in fact I would like to know if is it possible to block the WiFi settings for example, to avoid changes in the current confguration, cause nowdays, in some schools or even in enterprise enviroment, the IT guys are using proxy configuration, so block this kind of changes the students or users can't use the "4G" from a smartphone (sharing data), the whole idea is to remaing under a specific WiFi connection using the proxy settings inside, avoiding access to blocked pages/contenu...

      This is the best thing I could find for now Douglas tissot kawano th-cam.com/video/RxligQLVxmo/w-d-xo.html. I was trying to hide apps a few months ago, but so far I’ve only found vault type apps for photos. Nothing that allows you to hide apps yet. I’ll keep an eye out and if I find anything I’ll be sure to let you know. Cheers.

      @AwarenessModule  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately Mohamed Android does not have the same kid friendly options as apple. My suggestion would be to get the app I mentioned in the later portion of this video called "Kidslox". It is a paid app, but you'll be able to do a lot to limit your child's use. 👍🏽

    Do you think it’s best to set up the iPad with a parents Apple ID or create one for your child?

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would use your Apple ID for your child. This will allow you to monitor what apps are being downloaded and you can password protect in-app purchases. I also believe in order to connect to the app store you will need a registered credit card. Until your child can get their own credit card it might be better to have them use your account. You might be able to create an account for your child using a pre-paid credit card, but I'm not sure. Overall I think it's just safer and easier to monitor if they use yours. Hope that helps.

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@w_matheny3030 I'd have to look into this. Apple has changed a few things lately and I haven't had a chance to explore the new updates. It's always best if the payments need to be approved by you otherwise your kids will wreck up a serious bill.

    Do you have something like this on Android?

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      mercedes marton there are some parental controls for Android, but not as many. Open the Google Play app, tap the 3 lines in the top left corner to bring up the menu. Scroll down to settings. In setting you can turn on "parental controls" which will allow you to restrict content from the Google play store. For a really versatile set of options get the app kidslox. You can limit and restrict a wide range of options from that app. You can even control other devices from your phone using that app. Hope that helps.

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily. You will need to plug in your ipad to a computer. If you set up the ipad on a computer, use that same computer. Hold the home and power buttons down simultaneously while its plugged into the computer. In iTunes it will give you a few options. You want to select "Restore" It will take several minutes to process, but you will get a freshly wiped ipad. Note: Don't expect your apps (or progress) to be saved. It will be like getting a fresh ipad from the start. Please let me know how it goes. Good luck!

    But how can I limit TH-cam videos such as cursing or inappropriate language etc

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Myviews, great question. In the video I talk about being able to set an age limit on web content when you enable the "restrictions". This may or may not block youtube content. Try it out and let me know. You can also use the TH-cam kids app instead of the standard youtube app. From what I understand the content there is directly filtered from Google. Check it out and let me know if that helps. Cheers!

    • @daniellepaige1249
      @daniellepaige1249 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TH-cam kids is a great alternative, although I have to warn it is not 100% safe. Some videos do sneak through the filter that are specifically meant to be scary for kids. The video will look and sound like a regular children’s video but they will sneak in disturbing imagery in the background or they will have very short segments that have visually disturbing content with kid friendly sound so as to trick parents into thinking their child is watching something kid friendly.
      Best way to prevent this or catch these are by checking repeatedly with your eyes and not just listening, and to review their most watched channels and decide if it’s appropriate or not (the comments section are a good indication if you don’t have time to watch full episodes for the tiny disturbing segments) then you can choose to block and report such channels.

    I go into general in my settings and I don’t have the Restriction option there. I’m looking for volume limit not just for music but for the device itself or for kids TH-cam specifically. My kid is autistic and likes to blare the volume and I want to stop him from damaging his ears. Called apple and the guy was playing dumb and told me that there are no restriction option and not possible to volume limit except for the music app. :(

    • @AwarenessModule
      @AwarenessModule  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely turn off the volume capability in guided access, but this will also prevent him from switching apps by pressing the home button. I'll look into this more and see what I can dig up.
