    I have followed your weed seed depletion practices for 2 years now. My garden is basically weed free. I walk through the garden with that single tine cultivator in hand a couple times a week and I find very few weeds. I also use the wheel hoe to keep the entire garden nice and fluffy especially after a significant rain fall. You’ve taught me a ton and I appreciate it.

    I learned my lesson this year when I didn’t take care of the weeds in our 40ft long in ground bed. We left it un attended over the winter and weeds filled the whole bed and it took us days and days to get the weeds out just so we could amend the soil. Next year, we will put all the beds that we aren’t growing in over the winter to sleep by covering them with a good weed barrier cloth.

    I'm now a believer in thick mulch even though it harbors slugs, snails, and other garden pest. Nature keeps itself covered at all times unless man disturbs it. I love piling up the fall leaves and keeping them a little damp and the biological activity is enormous . The worms gravitate to it and I open the middle and pile in the green garden scraps, crushed egg shells and old chicken manure. You'd be shocked at how fast that chicken poop turns all that into fabulous compost for the garden.

    I love my raised bed garden, I’m older and it’s much easier! ❤️

    I made the mistake of letting lamb’s quarter, and chick weed go to seed in my garden and now it’s a invasive weed that covers my raised beds and in-ground garden. Yes, I know I can eat it, that’s why I let it grow, and now I’m paying the price.

    I’m older than dirt, and I appreciate all of your videos, because there’s things that slip the mind that you point out.
    Looking forward to your next video.

      I always struggle with weeds in my melon, squash and sweet potato beds. Its pretty difficult to get in there and pull weeds when the vines are everywhere. Any suggestions for what to do with weeds in these vining type crops?

      it works, but any soil on top the barrie a seed will germinate and the taproot will get right through the barrier !!!

    I enjoyed this! I do occasionally spot weed with a product which shall remain nameless, but it rhymes with wound pup. I have neighbours who completely ignore their back yard and nasty weeds are always trying to sneak past the fence line. Just yesterday I downloaded a free app for my iPhone that identifies plants, I now know that I am having a problem with Mouse Ear Chickweed!

    Red root pigweed is amaranth? Some people also call goosefoot (lamb's quarters) pig weed.

    Would flame burning be an option with weeding or heating up the fire ants nests.

    i don't think you ever had to deal with freaking johnson grass, its nuts, even with raised beds it just grows freaking everywhere and you cannot kill it. open to any tips !

    • @donnabrooks1173
      @donnabrooks1173 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Johnson grass is the bane of my existence!!!! It's my number one plant enemy. Aside from using chemical weed killers, the only other thing you can maybe do is smother it or dig it out by hand, which is a buttload of work, time and energy They spread underground like blackberries, which is another enemy. Numbers 3, 4 and 5 are poison ivy, trumpet creeper vine and honeysuckle is also very invasive on my property.

    Maybe spend a little less time saying the word weeds and just tell us how to do it
