If I tell you that you pushed 5 gallons of dirty water and replaced these 5 gallons with a clean water out and then you're pushing out the new water by replacing it with a new water. @@alexk6745 the fresh water hose goes to the bottom which then pushes all water up and out. Check the ppm before and check until your ppm level is the same as your tap water.
A tiny hole doesn’t reduce pressure. It restricts flow. This doesn’t assure you that it’s clean. There could be a pocket where the water wasn’t moving. Instead of bleach make a video using black ink. Se how long it takes and how much water is waisted to make the water clear again.
@Killa Killita If you search online for HDPE open top barrels, you can find them. For example, Home Depot sells the Earthminded brand 55 gallon HDPE blue BPA free industrial drums online. They are a little expensive at HD. I bought a few used ones from Facebook marketplace.
Paolo DaVinci I would not use used barrels for drinking water. Even if they are made of food safe plastics you don’t know what they were used to store. Very dangerous.

It's called pressure. The water pressure pushing fresh water in will cause the dirty water to push out.
