We don’t want Russia as an ally. Americans are not tyrants, even way back then they could’ve annexed all of Mexico when their army marched to Mexico City. We are their biggest trading partner as well. Why would we give that up to help a failed state like Russia?
Russia doesn't own the Black Sea....anyone can fly over that territory with anything. Obviously it would be concerning to see Russian planes near US territory, but that happens all the time near Alaska without any getting shot down.

If that had happened, Russia would have been late to the party; they should have acted fast earlier; if you're not part of a war, don't get involved in selecting which targets to hit and how. We know for proprietary and state secrets reasons, there are Surveillance and target acquisition systems used in Long Range Missile Launches that US or NATO countries can't hand over to Ukraine; it has to be run by their contractors at the least. I don't have a problem if these are run entirely by Ukrainians, but it makes no sense when a third party who claims not to be part of the conflict gets involved in this. Unfortunately, Russia is slow in responding.

It was preceded by the targeting of five ATACMS, one of which was disabled and then crashed on a beach, killing four and wounding 151. Two of the four were children. It was armed with cluster munitions.

As far as I know this drone was not shot down. At least that's what the Americans are saying. However I throw out the following possibility. Russia did shoot down the drone and the US knows they did. However Russia and The US have an agreement. The Americans say we understand that this is a limited retaliation for the ATCMS strike that injured Russians , and understand that this will be the end of it. America however will not acknowledge it happened and will consider the matter settled. Just speculation??
There is plenty of room for speculation: Russia did say they would retaliate regarding an American-made ATACM missile (possibly with cluster munitions) killing (at least 6) and injuring (over 100) tourists, on a beach in Crimea; while Russia also claimed no contact with the RQ4 drone (cost around $131 Million) that may have been lost. My guess would be: that Russian pilots (again) downed an American prop-driven surveillance drone, using the vortex effect; that way they can claim Russia didn't touch the RQ4 and also can't be accused of escalation, by shooting at anything over "international waters". We can assume the drone was involved in helping target American missiles landing in Crimea; Russia holds America (not Ukraine) responsible for the attack and (hopefully, imo) that is the retaliation and it's deemed sufficient by all. I only disagree that Russia "shot" the drown down; doubt we will see any camera footage (because officially it didn't happen), but I suspect removing a surveillance drone did occur (if it was involved in the Crimean attack).
