Anyone thinking of buying a used RDX should research the common and very expensive problem of the wastegate boost loss, throwing a "P2263 Check Emissions" code. Once it does you will end up having to replace the entire turbo around 90k-150k miles at a cost of 5k-$10k depending on if you use Honda or an off market turbo. It's a $7 piece that gets out of round on the wastegate, that renders the car limp and will not pass an emissions test, and the only fix is to replace the entire turbo. I've owned 3 RDXs and will never buy another after finding out the hard way.
It’s gonna be a good weekend. Pandemic lockdown in Ontario but we can binge watch a bunch of Mike C videos. Can’t wait to see a review of a Toyota Matrix one day!
MR. Ford got the best of us yet again As for the video. One thing to keep in mind with RDX. They are notorious for blowing out turbo chargers. Stay far away it's very costly to replace.Take the Crv with less moving parts and headache.
I always love testing new vehicles and would certainly jump at the opportunity to do a Matrix - I've always liked those and the Vibe. Hopefully one of these days!
@@moeanthony9308 Absolutely people need to be aware! It's a very common problem, that Honda refuses to address, and it's $5,000 to $10,000 to fix it. There's no simple fix other than replacing the entire turbo, and your RDX won't pass emissions until you do.
@@dand900 well said. I knew a few folks who literally walked away from their RDX because like you say. Way too much too repair. Turbo unless Toyota is a big joke.
VERY good review... very comprehensive and to the point without being boring. Such a great vehicle, so too bad about the one major handicap; fuel economy. 👍👍
I really really really want one. These are such beautiful SUVs. And imo this really is an SUV. Now, granted, it's not the cool boxy SUVs from back in the day. But this isn't a gross super round design. It has the curves in the right places, that nice turbo charged 2.4 K series. Hell I don't think any of the other Hondas/Acura came with this particular configuration. I love it
I had one bur i think it was a lemon. Turbo was shot. I'm looking at another about 8k 130kmiles. I loved it, i fully believe it was just the turbo that was shot.
I have 2008 RDX. I bought it 2 year old and I drive it for 12 years. 370K on it. Love it in general. All Pros are in the video. Cons are: bad on gas, air conditioner compressor got changed 3 times, turbo gasket gave me a huge problem once. But I put regular in it all the time before and after and it's fine. Also multiple interior "leather" parts needed to be changed or repaired. Noone can figure out the reason of battery drain for years, even though I have bluetooth disconnected. Voice recognition is a joke. Audio system makes some buzzy sound. Too hard to figure out some street names on the Navi.
@@MrBumpalicious On the wet weather it might not survive overnight. So I diconnect the battery if it's raining. Cold weather is not a problem though. Hot weather is fine. If you leave it for a week in the airport parking, it won't start. Also you can't keep ignition on while the engine is off. After just 5 or 10 minutes it won't start.
I'm interested in the "turbo gasket" issue. What were the symptoms and were you getting any error codes, such as "Check Emissions System" which is a common code when the turbo goes bad and needs to be replaced?
2009 RDX, 230k & still very enjoyable, tight, reliable, Solid. But just got a flickering Headlight issue then out, Possible Ballast issue? Anyone? I hear these can be a pain to replace a bulb even. Thats my only compliant. although if I have to take off the bumper cover to replace it, then its a big Pain
Very stiff suspension. This was one of main reasons why it never sold well compared to the softer 2nd 13-18 Gen RDX (mpg was another). The RDX is a very good hammer if you only see nails.
I found a 2008 AWD with 54k miles on it one owner, accident on the carfax for 9300. I am on the fence to replace my 08 RAV4 which will probably be better gas mileage
Had an 2007 RDX got rid of it in 2018 because it had issues at 153,000 miles after buying it used at a Toyota dealer at 80,000 miles in 2011. A/C stopped working, battery drain that was never solved by 2 Acura dealers, which caused the RDX to have no battery after a few days if you didn't use it. Pretty disappointed considering I had a TSX and 2 Honda Accords before this. I do miss the turbo engine.
The battery drain was most likley a faulty bluetooth module. Super easy to get to and remove. There was a class action lawsuit for this on the late 2000 rdx’s i believe
Don't miss the turbo too much, it commonly goes out at 100k-150k miles, and costs $5k-$10k to replace. You got lucky if the battery drain was your only issue.
Hell yes!
I have a 2007 RDX with 316K miles on the original engine, transmission and turbo!
