Joakim (the singer) initially asks the crowd to turn on their mobile phone lights, since no one is using lighters anymore. When the video starts he says: "Absolutely wonderful! My friends, let's sing together: A lifetime of war!", before he leaves the stage for the intro.

Yes, the audience were singing the harmonies.
The feeling on stage when your own song gets sung back to you by the fans must be indescribable.
Almost the best I have heard, but one that is slightly different is when Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody was played over the PA while Green Day were about to come on stage at Hyde Park, London.
The whole crowd joined in, and to their credit, the band recorded the whole thing from an onstage camera and released it.

When the soldiers left for war there was no one who could care for their wives, so they joined too and worked behind the lines as cooks, nurses, doing laundry etc. They got pregnant and had children in a foreign land. The children where baptized by the field chaplain. The same chaplain who might bury them 15-16 years later. A life time of war. This song is about the 30 year war in Europe in the 1600's. There's two versions of this song. This one in Swedish, telling the tale of a Swedish soldier. The English version is more from a neutral observers point of view, someone with an overview of the whole war.

In general the Swedish army had very little of that. (during the 30 year war that is) For several reasons, the main one being the Swedish/Finnish part of the army was rather small. So most of the women were either wives of German mercenary's or prostitutes/traders Swedish women were needed at home especially as the war dragged on. Sweden+Finland had at most 1.2 million people and women would not survive for long in the field. Protestant German women probably had very little choice :/

@@darkiee69 I think i've seen it. Maybe. But I know i'm right for the simple reason Swedes and Fins only had a few regiments and Sweden proper needed women to work the fields with those who had not been called up yet. You did see officers do it sometimes. The army could only swell because they plundered the land and that is what forced women at those places to hang after the army. Also there was a shortage of men in Sweden, even among the nobility after the war.

When we sang livstid I krig (yes I was there in front row) at the beginning the faces of Joakim,Pär, Chris, Tommy and Hannes was just pure Joy and amazement when we sang with ll our heart and souls. It is always just so incredible to stand in the crowd and sing in unison with everyone. Music brings people together and its like Joakim says alot of times "We all speak the same language. We speak heavy metal" 🤘🤘

Here's my translation that also goes well with the melody. Let me know what you think.
I turn around to see my homestead fade away
I wish I could have stayed there, just another day
Not yet a man, though called to arms to do my part
Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart
With kinsmen from my village I went out to war
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?
Went out to war for Sweden, baptized in blood
No gallantry awaits us, dying in the mud
In fields where friends has fallen, there’ll be no songs
Our fate once more we challenge, and marching on
    Far away from home
(To be baptized and die in war)
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?
And when my time is finally here
    Who’ll sing my song?
    They’re fighting on
I hope to die without much fear
I fall asleep, and fade away
    And never wake up
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?

Sadly this way just before covid started canceling shows (had for once planed around 4 shows and one festival for that year) Just before this clip started Joakim asked everyone to hold up their phone since no one carries around a lighter anymore.

Good thing you had subtitles on, they are not perfect, a few odd choices in the phrasing, but you get what the song is about. This was the last concert for me before shutdown, valentines day if i remember correctly. This song almoat always end up with the crowd singing when Sabaton play it in sweden, but this was probably one of the best so far. Think it was 12 or so thousand in the arena.

The Thirty Years' War - Sweden becomes a great power 💙💛
It was during the Thirty Years' War that Sweden became a great power in Europe. The war consisted of a series of interrelated conflicts with varying backgrounds. Religion is often mentioned as a contributing ideological cause to the war because the combatants consisted primarily of Catholics on the one hand and Protestants on the other. On the Catholic side stood mainly the powerful German-Roman Empire, while the Protestant side was dominated by Sweden which in the end became the big winner of the conflict. At the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Sweden's newfound position as a great power in northern Europe was confirmed...💙💛

I would like to add a little fact, when Carl the 12 died the new king said no more wars we had enough and this is one of the main reasons Sweden became a neutral state not participating in any war
Mind the war they sang about lasted 30 years and it almost killed Sweden most became poor and later started to immigrant to America as early as the 16 century where New Sweden was created sadly the Dutch came and killed most and claimed that land
