WOW, I never comment, but thanks for saving me money! The next video should be download this update and make your Kindle have some color (one can wish) 🤣
You dont need to go through connecting to a computer which most people dont use anymore anyway, and all that fuss for the update, Amazon sends it automatically to your old device, may take a week or to to show up, but it will arrive, no fuss, just need to be patient.
@@kelvinsmith6854 sometimes they don't. Sometimes, as in my case, they lie, and say that your device already has the latest software update. They did it to me on two separate occasions. My Kindle was freezing, lagging and glitching. I contacted them twice about it, and was told that I need to do a full factory reset, which I could not do as I would have lost more than 60%of my books on my Kindle as they were sideloaded via a pc when I still had one, and therefore they didn't sync to the cloud. Turns out, what my Kindle really needed was the software update Dylan mentioned in the video.
Cool. Didn’t know about the manual updating. I’m still using my Oasis and found a more recent update for it. From 15.6.21 to 15.7.1 (Sept 2024). Thanks.
Thanks so much. There was an update for my 10th gen Basic. The page turns are definitely faster, as is input response, like entering passcode. The passcode box also pops up quicker when opening the cover.
In the Page turning comparison, before updating the old one, you had a bigger font on the new one. I wonder if displaying more pixel will make the older page turn slower?
I have a 11th paperwhite that I’ve just did the manual update last night. No issues with the update installation as I’ve done them before. Amazon tends to be slow with the automatic updating in Canada. Anyway, I charged it at bedtime and it had a fully charged battery on airplane mode this morning. Six hours later I went to use it and noticed battery had dropped to 77% while in airplane mode and hadn’t been used. I never had battery issues before this update. I held the power for 40 seconds to reboot it so I’m hoping this fixes the problem or there’s a bug with this update that Amazon will have to fix. Think twice before updating.
This is just a new software update for Kindle Paperwhite 11th gen that fixes bugs, issues from a previous firmware version. Some people should know updates are a must if they want their Kindles to work properly and faster, just like any other device.
I updated my basic 11th gen (Denim one) and it's seems faster. I also have Basic 10th gen, but my white one seems still sluggish, maybe a reboot or factory reset helps
The update method appears to no longer work. I've attempted to update my Aqua Paperwhite 10th Gen and followed the detailed instructions and it either gives me an error message or after restarting the Paperwhite and updating remained unchanged. It's only a marginal change in performance so not losing out but it is petty on Amazon's part.
Just updated my Paperwite 10th gen - no issues. I ditn't notice any performance improvements so far, but update works as it should - please don't forget to download update for your Kindle version, not for 11th gen 🙂
Hi there, I've tried your suggestion but I keep getting an error message saying the update is invalid! What should I do? I have a kindle Paperwhite 11th and a Macbook air 2022. Thanks for your help.
I’m curious, do you know if by updating to the new software we will also lose the ability to side load fonts easily? Referring to the way Amazon has made it a bit harder to load different fonts onto the new 2024 kindles
LOL! I was thinking about your channels this morning. I was wondering there was any new Libby Library's that would let anyone borrow audiobooks from them?
Just checked my 11th gen Kindle and it says the software is version 5.17.1 already - does this mean I already have the latest version and there's no need to do the manual update.. or is the one that's available on the site a slightly different variation?
@@NeilWick actually, mine didn't. And the 5.16.21 almost cost me my Kindle paperwhite. It was freezing and glitching so badly I could hardly use it at all. I had to keep resetting it, just to open a book. Sunday evening after I had been on with an Amazon agent, who offered me no help at all, other than to say I should factory reset it, and insisting it was on the latest software update already. After I had spoken to him, I went to check and there was indeed a new software update available. I downloaded it yesterday, and finally found out how to install it from my phone onto my Kindle this morning. My Kindle is again working properly as it should without any glitching, freezing, etc. So yes, sometimes you need to check for yourself and download the update manually like I had to do.
@@ursulaoelofse4731 I wanted to say it might take months, not weeks, but I'm not really sure about that. Almost since I got my Paperwhite, I've been downloading the updates manually every time I know there is one, so I don't really know how long I'd wait otherwise. I didn't have the severe problems that some people had with 5.16.21, but I didn't receive it automatically, either. I even downloaded that one manually. The problem that I did have was unresponsiveness when I tried to get a menu in my book. The first time I tried that, I got distracted by something and when I looked at the Kindle a few minutes later, the menu had finally appeared. So far, 5.17.1 seems to be working smoothly.
@@sweetnothings12 I did it via my phone. I bought a special USB C to USB C cable. Turned on my link to windows feature on my phone, which then picked up my Kindle as an external device. I just did this easy upgrade tonight and it is noticeably faster. Certainly far worth the effort of a 3 minute upgrade, and for free, thanks!

I updated both my paperwhite (11th gen) and basic (10th gen). I can definitely see a difference. Thanks for your video!
I downloaded this update and it worked great. It is now comparable to my Raspberry Signature Paperwhite 12th gen.
I’m so glad!
This update solved my problem of a specific manga that would freeze my kindle. Thank you.
thank you for this! I did it with my ipad and it updated just fine. It’s faster and I can read comic books panel for panel now. I appreciate you 😊
So glad! :)
Wow, thank you! Now I can order a raspberry style decal set and I can have myself a “new” kindle! Lol! Totally worth trying this.
Haha that’s the way to go! Glad the video helped

Wow, thank you! 😊 I really appreciate it!
This was very helpful! I was able to update my device. Thank you.
Amazon should make Kindle updates available directly on the device.
Thank you so much, it was so easy to do and took about 5 minutes. All done! Keep doing what you are doing, love your videos.
thank you for your advice, been a while waiting for the update from the device and didn't got it until manual updating , thanks bro

Does it remove the Screen Sleep timer? The old version has it but the new one doesn’t.
The kindle says if you use a Mac you must use send to kindle
my kindle's update my kindle is grayed and can't click on it. Above it says if it is connected to wi-fi, then it updates automatically...
Does this apply to the Paperwhite signature?
The 11th Gen had a Carta 1200 screen, not Carta 1300. They are not the same.
Can I do this for my Kindle 10th Gen (not paperwhite)?
Should be able to! :)
Unless a software update has a New UI that you don't like, you should always update the software.
Doea this also apply for basic 10th gen? An update of version 5.17.1 is on the site, my kindle is refurbished 10th gen with firmware version 5.16.21
yea 5.17.1 is the newest update and works well on everything 10th gen and newer
I have the 11th generation. I don't understand why it doesn't update on it's own automatically? Is 5.16.21 the last update for the 11th generation?
No. I had the same issue. U have to download the update yourself.
It's 5.17.1. It will update on it's own automatically, but it might take a few weeks. They roll out the updates gradually.
