When I saw "You are seeing this on an Xbox" as an Instagram ad on my phone I thought that the marketing team had made a mistake a put the wrong images in their Instagram campaign
The only way this marketing campaign works is if it culminates with Xbox ending a press conference by showing an image of a PS5 and saying "This is an Xbox", announcing XCloud on PS Network
I think the only reason PS5 and Switch aren't displayed here is purely because of copyright. Like they just didn't get the okay from Sony or Nintendo to use official renders because I do absolutely think they would've especially after yesterday's interview with Phil Spencer. They want those consoles in the overall plan
@@icedcapplord710 More so, the consoles don't want Microsoft. You can put your games on their console, that's fine with them. They aren't letting you set up a competing store in their store. lol
I don't think Sony or Nintendo will ever allow a competing (!) subscription service on their own platforms. Why would they? There's nothing for them in it.
It’s always a good week when Kyle has new Phil Spencer quotes to read, but I think today’s may go down as one of the best reads relative to the quote being read. Wonderful joke delivery.
Not shocking. One was a fun idea fleshed out into a comedy game. The other was an attempt by out of touch old people to go viral online, while making sure to be as sanitized as possible.
It helps that the Stanley Parable is actually self-aware, so even if a single joke doesn't land there is still a sense that it knows how silly the whole thing is.
The Xbox marketing is so weird. They aren't communicating what they're actually trying to sell, nor why someone might want to buy it. They're just saying everything with a screen is an Xbox, which leads to the inevitable conclusion that I should just game on the "Xbox" that can also play Nintendo/Playstation games. Xbox is spending all this marketing budget just to devalue their own brand. Guess I can't say it's out of line with how self-destructive all of their other decisions the past decade or so has been.
Good like explaining what an Xbox is to a parent this holiday. I just imagine them while choosing a console and listening to Xbox’s marketing thinking “I’ll just get them the switch”.
True story. I got one of those McDonalds cups. I kept it in its sealed blue bag , ate the meal and then sold the cup on eBay for $35 dollars. That's called a win-win.
Give credit, "this is (not) an xbox" is an actually perfect meme. Will it do what they want it to do? I have no idea, because I don't know what it's really supposed to do beyond confuse the audience
Remember those Batman forever glasses that had custom moulds and handles? With Batman and Joker popping out of the glass. Been using those for twenty something years and they’re some of the best ugly glasses I’ve ever used. How’d they last this long and survive childhood? They’re surprisingly well made. Wow they’re made in France. That’s kinda awesome.
I think I’ve come around to the notion that the more brand acquisitions a company makes, the less appealing it becomes as it’s unique brand identity becomes spread thin over too many fronts. It’s like if Chipotle added burgers and milkshakes to it’s menu.
The weirdest thing about the ad campaign is the timing. Xbox has a pretty decent trifecta of games coming in less than one month, with two FPS included. You think the combo of Stalker 2 + Indiana Jones (+ Flight Simulator 2024) would push some consoles. Also, we just come from Black Ops 4, expansions for Diablo 4 and Starfield and a bit more niche titles like Age of Mythology and Hellblade 2. It looks like they just have given up on selling consoles.
Xbox secured its fate the second that Phil said, "We lost the console wars" and made the dumbass comment that making great games doesn't sell consoles. That was the indication then and there that they gave up and had no idea what they were doing. And things predictably have just gotten worse for them since because they never really took aim at any concrete direction, up til now. But so much damage has been done and it's not like they weren't already in a bad place to begin with.
It looks like they have just given up on selling consoles because, well, I think that's exactly what happened. Microsoft's struggled in all but one console generation and even that generation they ended up third. They've never built up a suite of exclusives and with stuff like 343 Studios handling of Halo even the ones they had have collapsed. They also went all in on Game Pass, which hasn't gotten them the numbers they want but at the same time is essentially their only good will with customers right now. Most of their games outside of a few like Black Ops 4 have either been bad or struggled to break out a lot. If they truly want to compete in that space they need to seriously refocus on their priorities, especially when it comes to...well...actually making good exclusives. And if Sony keeps stripping their exclusives down they might see the same struggles.
I would like to Super-serve a FUN FACT with the class. The ICONIC Bosman Honk comes from The Sopranos season 2 Episode 8 Full Metal Jacket with 15 minutes and 53 seconds remaining
Played Infinity Nikki beta and became a superfan 😍 But just wanted to say the “ability” outfits specifically are obtained through the story. But collecting normal outfits is the grind and chase and theres a ton in the world 😂
He's still hopefully living in the world where Black Friday was a DAY, not then a weekend, then stretched into a Cyber Monday until as it is now it runs for two to three weeks depending on the company involved.

solid analysis, coverage 90% of gaming is North American viewpoint and in a bubble, you're one of the few who even looked at Infinity Nikki likely hit and I'm guessing will be a Sims/Stardew cozy game top competitor agreed on all the Xbox points, in short their messaging is not focused
This is kind of just a rebrand of the Apple “What’s a computer?” I’m so mixed on all this because as a PC gamer yes I don’t actually want to buy a third console (in addition to switch and PS5) to play all my games but I do want them to put more money into great single player games and new ip.
I actually really like this campaign. It does a good job of clarifying Xbox as a brand and not the console. Also, those glasses are fine, but they aren't really 80s glasses unless they use lead paint. 😞 Things really are worse now.

Im having a hard time with this, is Phil Spencer a Kyle bosman?
Dang, Kyle really super served in this episode
(crosses arms and nods) He sure did...
Kinda concerning how casually accepting Kyle is of pay 2 win mobile slop tbh
Great comment
Not really...being honest with Xbox just sounds like youre insulting it lol

That reading of the Phil Spencer quote was absolutely incredible
It reminds me of that “is this a bucket?” Segment from Stanley Parable, which funnily enough was way funnier than any of the attempts made here
It helps that the product is way more desirable (bucket).

Xbox: we desperately want what Nintendo has and want you to associate all video games with our name. Plz plz plz plz

This is a great point actually. Both Microsoft and Sony have ended up feeling way less distinct nowadays because of that.
