2008/06/21, Yundi Li plays PROKOFIEV Piano Concerto No. 2 with The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra , Conductor: Yannick Nézet-Séguin .Venue:Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
A superb performance by Yundi Li who is the only pianist that can match young Jorge Bolet's definitive account which came out back in the 1950's.Yundi Li's last movement brings out the folk like quality of the great Russian melodies even more so than the top Russian pianists that have also tackled this most difficult of all, piano Concerto's.
***** I believe Rachmaninoff's performance of his own 1st Piano Concerto comes very close to being definitive, but you are correct.I believe however that Yundi Li's recording of this Concerto with Ozawa conducting comes very close to matching young Jorge Bolet's stunning account back in the 1950's.Li brings out a folk like quality in the beautiful Russian melodies of the 4th movement even more so than the Russian supervirtuosos that play this work.Guttierrez is also magnificent.
+mingoucz Thank you for bringing this to my attention.I will definitely check it out.Yuja Wang is also quite good in my opinion, but most pianists I have spoken to favor Horrazio Guttierrez over everyone.I have 8 recordings so far.
Such a virtuosity is *amazing*! BTW, it's hard to imagine the audience's kind of reactions, hearing this concerto (created, *in 1913*, by the composer himself, still student), at the St Petersburg's conservatory: it's so modern, so in advance on his time...
An awesome performance by a true artist.

I cried at the cadence of the first mouvement.....
TH-cam should add an application to adjust the sound to the image as a viewer
Thank you, it's great! And I love Yannick, he's always my winner!
A splendid post! Yundi Li recorded this with Haitink and received high praise. This performance is also excellent. Bravo!
I remember he recorded it with Seiji Ozawa for DG?
Just fantastic!!!

Anyone know what the piece is that he plays as an encore at 33:45? Really beautiful music.

Don't know how anyone can play that Cadenza without their arms falling off
fabulous!
thanks , it takes me a long time to find this vedio
The video is so out of sync
the cadenzaaaaaaa
Video does not synchronize with audio at all length of this record
That does not bother me. Yundi plays this very well. But imo, too muffled--too much use of pedal.
那时候是真的棒…可惜如今哎……
hi
Video gets desynchronised with audio at about 11:40
That's not cadenza that's piano solo
it is cadenza, check the analysis of the concerto.
no sound
He can play that well and take time to care about this hair 😆😆😆😆
