  • With support from the Energy Department’s Building Technologies Office, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and GE Appliances are changing the way Americans do laundry with their ultrasonic drying technology that uses vibrations, not heat, to dry fabric.

I wonder if those same transducers can be used in same machine for washing or "wash boosting" too (like indiegogo dolfi ultrasonic "washing soap"). Also can that fast mechanical vibration break or wear out clothes. How about plastic/metallic buttons, zippers etc..? I don't know how those condensating dryers are actually done but this could be a good combination.
First thing that comes into my mind is that these could work nicely in the "wings" of european style horizontally spinning drums.

Actually I was thinking of ultrasound as assisting tool to help the washing process. I googled the word and end up here. lol

When will this be out. Might be better for solar powered off grid homes 😁. Yeah clothes on a line is fine but clothes in the dryer makes it easier during the rainy season and prevents that hung outdoor smell

Interesting, works on light delicates, not thick heavily drenched clothing. They have many years of trail and error ahead. There is drying time to take into consideration. How about a dryer that reuses that lost heat energy and wind force? During winter a home dryer can be used to distribute heat to a home or greenhouse. i do not think these tiny ultrasonic devices can remove water in a timely evenly matter, especially using less power.
