You're forgetting that an ipod plays mp3s which can vary in quality from 96-320kpbs. Quality of playback depends entirely where you get your files. Spotify typically uses 160kbps as default, in which case you're correct to say an ipod sounds better (although I believe spitify are upgrading soon). In contrast CDs use a bitrate of 1411kbps, therefore CD will always trump mp3. Either way I will stay firmly rooted with MP3/CD/Vinyl. I like to own my music thank you.

@@colonelsanders4006 I own my music to I buy lossless and hi res tracks from Woburn and other sources as well. But the iPod in it’s time did sound great in it’s time. An updated version would be welcomed with a better dac. The only thing I use streaming for is music discovery to find new artist I like.

iPod touch 7 is sadly the last model. You’ll have to find them second hand now. I got my hubby one and got the free engraving, he hates engravings because they lower re-sell value.. I don’t want him selling it 😂
5th Gen “iPod Video” is still my favorite. No internet, just music and movies. Thankfully, loads of replacement parts available and easy as legos to assemble parts.

I love that the younger generation is waking up to the limitations and expense of online streaming. I've been using my iPod classic for 20 years, mounted in a docking station. It's the best media purchase I ever made. It's so easy to record from CDs or over the internet using a laptop or PC and then transfer to the iPod. Access eclectic music that the multinationals don't have. Get your music for free! Get your audiobooks for free!

Hi, I love Ipods. I have had an Ipod nano for 13 years and to this day I still use it. I am of the idea that it is better to buy the cd, transfer it to your ipod and you have the music forever. I don't like music platforms, because they don't let you download music to your computer. Only in iTunes you can still buy music, but it will never equal the sound of a CD that is the highest quality in WAV format. So I congratulate you, you have a great acquisition. Now they announced that the ipod touch of this year 2021 is going to come out because they say that it is 20 years of the Ipod. Greetings from Mexico.

Laughed so hard when the camera finally focused on the iPod while you were showing the songs list and the song shown was “Bop to the Top.” We all gotta have that HSM1 soundtrack downloaded!
Also, I would absolutely love to have an iPod classic today. I loved those products so much, I was the first kid to have an iPod Mini (1st gen with the light blue finish) and I swear after that EVERYONE in my school started buying them. I guess you could say I pretty much invented the iPod mini.

I am currently up the same thing: listening to the old albums I have missed and just listening them from the beginning to the end.
I am not listening music on the iPod, even though I have one, but I have just uploaded the music in AAC 320 Kbps to my iPhone.
    Best of luck!

This was a very fun and enjoyable video to watch. Picked up my first iPod classic in 2014, after buying a new automobile which, had special ports for connecting an iPod classic. Like you, I also selected the 5th generation model because, it is able to play both music and video. With my Hyundai you have to buy a special cable but, what is good is that this cable will both play and charge your iPod. All of my Apple G4, G5, and Intel computers still have a built-in DVD super-drive. So, I am able to add music to my iPod from the iTunes store, USB drives, or artist CD's.

    • @cynthiaherndon7585

Does the cable need to be disconnected before turning Hyundai off? I know how the battery can fail leaving auxiliary functions on without vehicle running 🤨

    • @transitengineer
      @transitengineer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@cynthiaherndon7585 The Hyundai cable for a classic iPod, on one end is connected to the ports of the automobile and on the other end the 30-pin connect, just plugs into my 5th generation iPod classic. Since, daily it is carried into the office, I always have to remember that the iPod will stay on until it is manually turned off. However, if the battery is dead the Hyundai cable lets you both listen and re-charge your iPod at the same time (smile...smile).

Back in the day when Ipod was king, Apple was doing some interesting things with the audio output. You could use the bottom output to an external data amp. And have bypassed the cheap internal audio path for just direct output. Back when I started using mine I had German company dac/amp combo. Last year I started using the ipod again. I bought the dac/amp portable Thx/aa certified from Monolith. Using high end ipod male and 3.5mm headphone plug. Into the dac/amp line input port and Apple lossless music. I have the ultimate portable hifi setup with Dirac ;-).

Much rather keep phone space freed up for pics and videos. Plus, no interruption from a text or call. And it sounds better on the Ipod. It's well worth bringing one extra (small) gadget along on the go. Use mine daily since getting it. Back when they were new. Not big on streaming music either. “Too loud” solution, use better headphones that have higher impedance. Headphones that are driven at 90-100 are supposedly good for iPod gen 5.
My $300 bose are only about 60 ohms but thats I bought them for the Active Noise Canceling, not sound quality. Still better than Apple Ear Pods that are only 42 ohms. Many $50 headsets or over ears should be able to take the power being pumped out of the 5th gen easy. As long as you are only looking for sound quality, cheap and big should do ya just fine.

I realize this is a old video, but if you replaced the spinning hard drive with a iflash solo mod, your battery life would triple. Also it is a ton lighter weight. They also make Bluetooth 30pin adapters that work well with air pods. And they are not as loud so that would solve that issue you had with the volume being to loud on the lowest setting. Plus the iflash solo speeds up the iPod some as well as sync times a little. And the 5 gen can be increased to a terabyte of storage. Even more.

What about audio quality? how good is it in comparison to spotify? Once I went to the mall and I tried some ipods and the difference in audio quality between the ipod nano and the ipod classic was very noticeable.

Depends on what quality you download your music, Spotify usually have a lower quality
