I shot a 90 pound feral hog with a 55 grain V-max out of a 22-250 two years ago while I was rat shooting. I certainly wouldn’t recommend that bullet for a hog but it got the job done. That v-max disintegrated but that hog dropped like a rock. They work magic on varmints. They generally come apart on impact so you don’t have to worry about them ricocheting. Really accurate bullet.
I have some IMR 4198. Saw it on the shelf and bought it. Can’t be to picky these days. Not much info on bottle, will refer to reloading manuals as to best application for this powder.
Ive been having decent groups out of my 16" ruger american ranch....h4198 @ 18.6gr w/55 gr vmax No chrono, but guessing pretty slow....guessing near 2500 fps
Another good vid! I just filled my 6.5 RAP stock and ordered a muzzle break and bipod from optics planet. Stock feels much better already. Keep up the good shooting
Nice groups, I found pretty much the same load with the 55 vmax and varget. Once your satisfied you have found the charge, play with Your seating depth. Made a huge difference in mine
I hope you get along as good as Johnny does with the scale. I still use the old beam scale and I believe that digital would speed things up for me considerably! That 223 Axis, with the varget, is pretty impressive. Could be the shooter has a little to do with it lol
I have been wanting to get a 223 bolt gun for a while now, and glad I did. Some things you just can't do with a 22, and the bigger calibers are just to big. The shoot good and are cheap to reload.
I tried making the 26.4 varget 55g v max load there was no way i was getting that much varget load in my case can anyone tell me what im doing wrong ??
The problem with your 73s is the twist, not barrel length. I’ve had great luck with the same scale for 3 years based on JRB testing. Heck of a value
I’ve never used Varget, but I sure hear it mentioned a lot lately. Sounds like a winner for more than one application.
It is very universal. I can use in most calibers I reload, and it's easy to find.
@@243Outdoors Not so easy nto find in local gun shops I do not like paying that BS of a Has Mat fee plus shipping etc Thanks for sharing etc

Seems it’s a good powder for 45-70 and 223 which is good for me.

Thanks, sounds like you are just about ready to go with it.
they do stabilize out of a 16" barrel just cant push them

I was pretty happy with the 26.4g and 2.250. I've got 50 loaded up to try out sometime.
243 Outdoors I don’t blame you. Be hard to improve much on that group lol.
Great video.

I love my TL series scale I have always found that Varget at the maximum charges are the most accurate in a 223
I am really liking the Varget because it is so universal. It will work in many calibers. I am ready to try it in some 22-250's one of these days.
I would like to know if you cleaned your rifle before each different powder loads because mixing fouling from different powders affects accuracy
Nope. I don’t believe in any of that. I rarely clean rifles. Only clean when accuracy goes away. Usually around 600-800 rounds.
@@243Outdoors What caliber were you shooting for the 1500 yard chalange ?
6.5 Creedmoor
Don't seek the greatest velocity, but seek a better load for your specific barrel..
Maybe, bullet depth, neck tension. 🤷
Good video..
What primer, and bullet setting depth? Will these work in an AR set up. ?
Thanks for the great video. Been thinking about getting a .223. Something a .22lr can't kill and shoot further out to.

Iv been thinking about using Varget... what number of powder is it? Or is it just plain varget. Rookie reloader lol
It's just Varget. It is very universal. Similar to Reloder 15. It will work in a wide variety of calibers.

People who talk shit about the axis and it’s cheap attributes should really look at these groups. Nice shooting.
Thanks, It also shot the 40g Vmax very well.
Have you thought about using a dump tube funnel for compressed loads? Frankfort Arsenal makes it, Midway sells it.
I've seen them, I didn't have any trouble with this load, It fits in the case, it's just pretty full.
@7.51 keyholed...
Looks a lot like a JRB style target.
The first JRB video watched was over Christmas break. Yeah he might of influenced it a little.
Is that Sheetrock lol
Yep sure is. I thought it was neat how the dust was coming back through the holes.
That's what I seen lol
I thought they were so fast that they smoked the target ha ha
Developing for AR why not shoot it from AR setup
