Not. Of. This. World. Neither is the drummer Julio Barreto. Of all his great drummers, Barreto is the most cosmic and the only one that could/can play in the same stratosphere as Rubalcaba. I hope they find their way back together again....
Simply great music God Bless Gonzalo and may he blessed with many more achievements in his music career. Thanks for the team for enabling to listen to this wonderful rendition by the players Kasturi G
absolutely bomb. bomb. Jesus Christ! homeboy's technique is a gas, his interpretation is refreshing. The accompanist's are bomb also; that clean cymbal work driving tempo....
Big WOW! Bravi to all of them! I have only one argument against this vid.: after hearing this, I feel that I won't be able to play again on my piano... ;)
even mike brecker says yes YES!! you cant hear him but thats what it looks like he is saying while listening to gonzalo tears giant steps to shreds lol!!!!!!
he said yes because he finally played in that part some of the chords that you hear in the original song before that everything was very atonal a modern classic sounding and people cant understand or apreciate very much gonzalo rubalcaba music, it is complicated out of common is music for musicians, so when he did the afirmative thing with his head is because right at that moment gonzalo played more simple chords or similar to the original song but before that everything was just way harder
I love everything about this except I wish with everything I have it was a stand up bass playing with the quartet, that electric tone is to much for my ears. But the dude is insane good of course, it’s just a tone thing. He probably couldn’t afford to travel with a stand up since I think they were all from Cuba.. anyway one of the most amazing renditions ever..
Monster players - bassist and drummer insane, I love how they deconstruct and reassemble it - - but I gotta say it's a bit too fast for my ears. I think he played the previous year (1991) w/ Patitucci and DeJohnette at Mt. Fuji Jazz Fest, and they recorded another trio version of this tune and again, it's still too fast for my tastes. I prefer a more 'traditional' interpretation.
These guys are "tight/loose!" And this video should NEVER EVER be deleted. It's that good!
This is the single most impressive exhibition of human achievement I have ever born witness to...My God...
This is insane. The fastest piano lines I've heard in a jazz context.
This version is called _Gigantic Steps._
Hiromi Uehara is a contender!
I had to check my playback speed to make sure this wasn't being sped up... Their technique at such a breakneck tempo is incredible!

Simply great music
God Bless Gonzalo and may he blessed with many more achievements in his music career.

Kasturi G
This is one of my favorite piano videos on youtube.
absolutely bomb. bomb. Jesus Christ! homeboy's technique is a gas, his interpretation is refreshing. The accompanist's are bomb also; that clean cymbal work driving tempo....
not only special, but a complete out of body experience...yes there is defo a god.... and he is flying within these guys...nuff sed

That drummer though!!!
Rubalcaba can't be real... I'm leaving this world right now
The Cut away was Michael Brecker BTW! The Man is a Monster!
Can u imagine being one the band, keeping up with him?! Superb, all of them!
Incredible
Rubalcaba is the pianist that Coltrane needed to record Giant Steps.
Still impressive at 0.75 speed. And it actually makes sense. Now I am depressed.
Totally Insane !!
This clean blows me away... I imagine coltrane would be stunned with this... 🥂🎉
Omg!! Dianne Reeves taking pictures! Unbelievable
Terri Lynne Carrington I saw take a picture !
amazing ....fantastic.....
Big WOW! Bravi to all of them! I have only one argument against this vid.: after hearing this, I feel that I won't be able to play again on my piano... ;)

Sounds like modern classical! I Loved it!!!!
totally crushed...hung drawn and quartered !...geez, which far flung galaxy did these dudes beam down from ?!?!
Love that cut away to Tom Scott digging the playing.
Fenomenale , grandissimo....
Wow, amazing!
Giant Steps waited a long time to appear a guy who can play as it should be, ajajajaj Great Rubalcaba!
6:10 to 9:57…if “Gonzo” got paid per note, he could cover the national debt :)
HA, good one.
One of the great renditions ever recorded.
inimaginable!!!!!
Maestro.
I would say something more substantive but my brain has been absolutely obliterated by this madness. I think the girl at 07:52 sums up my vibe
that bass player is KILLING ME!!!! Omg what a beast!!!
Woah this happened in my year? Jesus youre so amazing!
i gotta say this is special.
possibly the most impressive thing i've ever heard
I agree!!
Es ridículamente increible . . . Otro nivel
Whats not to like , WOW!!!!!!!!!

Awesome man! What a fantastic composition!
A must have!
mastery virtuosity divinity
A modern computer would spit out :ERROR while analyzing this.
What the hell just happened.?? :) Love this guy...
ohhhhh maestro

HOLY FUCKING SHIT
El pianista más rápido del mundo
Is not fair at all that we only can put a single thump up...
VERY SCARY!
Channeling Art Tatum, Andrew Hill and Oscar Peterson? Cecil Taylor and Mary Lou Williams had a baby? Too much for words :-)..STILL an original!
I had to check if my playback speed wasn't 2x or something
Damn! This guy is destroying the piano!😱😵💫
@Solo1DiosTerenal They all are beast. That drummer was not playing either.
people never understand the hand of god
400bpm
Utterly ridiculous. Probably the most virtuosic thing I've ever seen.

I don't understand what he's doing....my mind is too primitive
I'm pretty sure none of the cats know what they're doing other than playing jazz.
lol
@@kimdavidj2 Nailed it!
scary
Cubans..... not to be f'd with
Gonzalo no pertenece a esta galaxia
His chops are phenomenal but I ask this...has Gonzalo improved with age? That is the true test of the artist.
how do you improve perfection?
You're funny. Listen to everything that Beethoven wrote very closely and then get back to me on Rubalcaba's mindless noodling.
Ha, Ha! These guys are androids.
Android music
i`m loosing time wathing this video.. go now to study....
what ???
He is just a show-off...
Ridiculous ....
Horrible!
