Wow, that was worse than my own experience with snobby parents. l had a well off boyfriend when l was around 18 who's parents thought me scum because my mom was a single working parent and we lived in a two bedroom apartment. I worked. Their son didn't. Actually, their son was messed up really bad by his mom, turned out. She made me a lean cuisine for dinner with them, because I was a vegetarian, and made clear she was barely tolerating my existence. She was not pleased, nope. I turned him down on marriage. It wasn't because of his family but it might have actually been fun to see her horror if l'd of accepted, lol. Phoebe was an honest, sweet, funny, quirky, kind person. Mike saw how rich he became when she stepped into his life.

The writers did a good job of portraying a clinical narcissist in Ross. Everything is always someone elses fault, and all he can think of is himself; his instant response to anything anyone else says is to bring focus back to him .Classic narcissist.
What type of narc do you think Ross is? While you describe a narc well. (& we prolly follow many of the same groups about narcissism... I don't see strong narc traits in Ross' character. (Albeit, I've not watched the entire series). I do have narc family members & have learned a lot about narcs this year...) After reading your comment i thought about my narc sibs. My bro would only date really vain fems. My bro always acts like he's the smartest person in the room. Ross does not come across that way to me. Could he still be a narc? Absolutely. Covert narcs are extremely complex & typically come across as broken needing rescue, being a victim, etc. Ross doesn't come across as overly vain, he doesn't constantly compete w/others (monica does). I really like Ross' character and his career choice is one of an intellectual. Most narcs lack that higher quality about them but not all. They are natural leaders and balk at team activities... Ross also gets married a few times and this is somewhat unlike some narc men who see women as inferior to them. They don't commit often they use people up. They feel superior to others all the time and that lack of empathy makes them cold hearted. Ross in general has a tender heart, he buys phoebe a bike when he heard her say she never had one... a narc is less likely to care about such a friend or statement. (Please feel free to add narc traits i may have overlooked as i am not a hard core friends fan. I've only recently watched tons of their eps after the death of MPerry who is a textbook covert narc. (I still like him tremendously. Narcs are often charming.)
