I appreciate you're mostly working on the Past and Present series - nice to see that coming along, it's a natural progression of what you've been doing up until now. Rooftops views from the Library would be great at sunset I would imagine. The Shakespeare Room is excellent as well.
Hello Chris, I feel that the Past & Present series needs to be done for Bham because it is the only city I know that radically changes every 50 years. So the work that I do is needed for present & future generations (and historians from future generations as well). The Shakespeare Room is superb, a Victorian jewellery. I was my first time going there actually. Thank you for your donation, I really appreciate it and also for the support you have given me since I started my channel.
Agreed. Constantly hear the argument of "oh it was all grey and concrete". Perhaps, but it was also a nice place to grow up. Now the PTB seem hell-bent on turning it into a soulless, generic city and once you start eliminating parking and restricting vehicle access, it'll end up killing off the city centre altogether 😪
Views of concrete tower blocks and the views from the tower blocks looking at the ugliest library in England. Birmingham has been run into the ground by lunatic planners.
Did you live in Birmingham in the 60's and early 70's, I dought it the way you are talking, I hasve lived in Birminghm for 69 years and I can tell you for sure there was nothiing to remenice about Birmingham then, it was a grim City loads of slums, bombed out Buildings and run down old buildings, since the City has been rebuilt it is now modern, airy and a pleasure to live in so no it was not a FK up of a once great City Centre, take it from me it was the pitts upto the early 1970's
@@madcarew5168 What has it got to do with you where I live or lived in Birmingham, but I can tell you for sure untile Birmingham City Centre was rebuilt and pedestranised and the bomb craters and slums of the inner City were demolished Birmingham was a dump, now it is a City to be proud of
It makes me laugh all these people commenting on the fact that Birmingham now is nothing like the old Birmingham with it's Victorian Buildings and now with ugly concrete Buildings, well as a Brummie I can tell you that the old Birmingham was a dark bleak ugly City and now since it has been rebuilt it is NOW a beautiful modern City who as a Brummie are very proud of.
A once absolutely gorgeous unique city sadly trashed by modern architecture and idiot planners since the 1950s and still going on today... Look at old Victorian photos of Birmingham wow what a city it used to be full of stunningly beautiful buildings lining every street for miles and miles. Would have been a world heritage site today if they kept it like that... now look at it a big concrete and steel mess that everybody hates.
What drugs are you on mate, as a Brummie living in Brum for 68 years born and bread I can tell you for certain int he 1960's and early 70's Birmingham was a drab boring dump with slums dirty Victorian buildings and bomb sites from WW2, The modern rebuilt Birmingham I now live I am proud of with all the modern new Buildings and green spaces which now makes Birmingham worthy of it's second City Status and no it was not full of stunning Victorian Buildings they were all black due to the grime of Birmingham's past
I think you should read my comment again and also do your research on all the grand victorian buildings that were demolished in the 60s and 70s ... new street station, snow hill station the original library, masons science college the birmingham and midland institute corporation street the list goes on and on...
@@rossw6233 All these building were not fit for purpose, Birmingham Snow Hill was totally run down as the Electrification of the WCML put preference on Birmingham New Street Station for future train services from Birmingham and again Birmingham New Street Station ended up a ramshackle dump being two stations split down the middle by I believe it was Queens drive, one side being for the old London and North Western Railway and the other side for the Midland Railway and was derelict after bomb damage during WW2 so it was due to Electrification better to rebuild it with a shopping center over the top, the original Library, Masons Science College etc etc were nothing but dirty old out of date buildings in the way of the building of the inner ring road and what Birmingham has turned into now is far Superior to the Dirty old City with a tarnished reputation of the 1950's,60's and early 70's
Always love seeing the footage that you get...... Thank you for sharing this 💙
Thanks a lot Horus 🙂
