  • Greetings viewers. In this video I dove into a 2014 Chevy Express with the 5.3L engine having a check engine light illuminated and stored codes P0172 and P0175. Flow along for a quick refresher on diagnosing these common fuel control faults and find the cause and make the repair.

    My cousin's 2005 tahoe had all kinds of codes pop up that were pointing towards the catalytic converter. He doesn't have money to just start throwing money at it trying to fix it. So i told him we would do a basic tune up and see what's up.
    The truck wouldn't shift into 3rd or 4th but when I went to look at the car while he wasn't there, the car shifted fine and isles and ran fine. So we ordered the coil packs, injectors and plugs and after i changed them, the shifting thing happened again. He replaced the solenoids and the trans was fixed.
    Now the hvac code came on so we changed the o2 sensors and after that code went away, p0175 popped up.
    The truck runs strong and the only issue i see now is the truck having issues starting here and there, so the next cheapest thing before we change the converter was going to be his hvac canister and double checking for vacuum leaks. Other than the catalytic converter, I'm lost at what to do next. Cleaning the maf and checking the other little things will be next but I have a feeling it won't be that.

      Same thing happening here man. Might be your fuel pressure regulator on your fuel pump and 02 sensors

    Good luck , is the proper sentiment lol. I've been slow walking the old 172/175 codes on a 07' 5.3. Don't have scanner that will read/reset alcohol %. Codes come and go, no drive abilities. All the PIDS are ranging properly. My suggestion ,don't throw parts at it, lol. Its probably a fuel composition algorithm problem (if you're in PID ranges and no drive ability issues). There are flash/ecu updates on the GM products over this issue. As stated, good luck 👍 ✌

    Thanks for the video. That air cleaner assembly looks similar to my 2002 Express 5.0L. Most of the local auto parts stores don't carry that cylindrical filter anymore.

    Loosen the 1 clamp on the maf and slide the assembly apart. Makes it alot easier to service that maf

    Geebuz they don't make it easy to get apart do they ! Did the black water valve on our RV 4 week ago ended up cutting the grey water pipe just to get the friggin thing off and used a 2" rubber pluming gasket to reassemble , 4 friggin hours in 90+ heat outside no shade . Good thing was at the farm no one could hear me ..... lol .....

      Sounds rough. Dang. I’m thankful the MAF is in the upstream side of the plumbing as I don’t care to work on the sewage side as you’ve described. But I guess all those sausages I eat end up having to go somewhere.

      Sounds like an EVAP issue possibly a stuck vent solenoid or clogged canister. Also check your fillpipe hoses for restriction.

    MAf reading was 6.2 after replacement which wasn't a whole lot lower than the 6.7 reading on the old one. Do you think just clearing the alcohol calculation would have fixed it?

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I did that first and didn’t notice a significant change in fuel trims. Also, typically a much higher learned alcohol content is present in that case. After test drive the fuel trims we’re at zero so Im pretty comfortable with the fix. I’ll be keeping an eye on it since it’s in for regular maintenance all the time.

    That airbox sensor assembly put up a good fight :-D
    i'm sure there is a person payed to come up with stupid designs on purpose.
    What was wrong with an airbox to throttle body tube with the sensor in the side.
    Anyway, did you get some sausages?, nice in a sandwich :-D

    • @ucnhtmenow1
      @ucnhtmenow1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see your comment was a year ago but did you ever figure out the problem? If so, what ended up being the issue?
      My uncle's 1500 was doing the same thing. We changed the fuel pump, the injectors on that weird Chevy fuel injected carburetor thing lol, and his distributor pick up was bad on it, but it ran fine after we changed it. But because I changed the injectors at the same time, it's hard to say which part fixed it, but I'd say it was the pick up on the distributor for sure.
      You can change just the pick up, but If you have the $$$, just get a new distributor.
      And just my 2 cents, but leave the throttle position sensor alone. They last a long time and if they need to be calibrated and you don't know how or don't do it correctly, it will run like crap no matter what you do.
      I told my uncle don't change it and his neighbor convinced him to (because he doesn't know what he's doing obviously) and after we had it running good, it was back to idling like crap and having no power under acceleration.
