    Landing hazard lose 3 dice or 2 items when supply gives you 3 dice plus a card seems wise to lose the dice. 40:00 If ranger with moved first used 2 assist for others , refresh both and add an extra die for sheltered location, you need to play the combos to gain an edge and play to crew strengths , the ranger in that sheltered location could have been a hub and actually gained dice back as her passive is to refresh dice used in assist.
    Similar at 1:18:18 first refresh her then move , extra die not move then refresh and sav erankup for later.
    Great playthrough though despite the disjointed rookie crew.

    OK so this is the second video I've seen of ISS and it's pretty much confirmed my initial impressions:
    - A little too clunky. There was a lot of confusion about where things were and some dice even got mixed up.
    - Too many components and card piles. It really bogs down the game when you need to check this event card pile or that log constantly.
    - Dice rolling is boring. Yeah, Gloomhaven has spoiled me!
    I LOVE the narrative aspects of this game. The genre is also right up my alley. The character building, ship building, all that is cool, but the actual gameplay needs a lot of work. It just needs to be more streamlined.
    That being said, thank you guys for doing a really professional video about what this game is about. You did a really great job of explaining things and keeping it focused on the game.

  • @thomasromanelli2561

    Thank you for posting this excellent tutorial/preview, as it has given me the most meaningful perspective on the game (as it currently exists in prototype form). I have come to appreciate a lot of qualities about AR products, but TBH, there were parts of your playthrough that seemed like a... slog. Specifically, an unpleasant, intermittently painful and sometimes soul-crushing slog with dice. Very pretty and substantial dice, no doubt, but dice nonetheless.
    Having watched the previews from Quackalope and the DT (which ended with everyone reporting to the memorial wall), I'm beginning to wonder if the tempo and quality of decision-making is as engaging as the early hype indicates. I have no doubts about the production quality (it is AR, after all), but watching the actual gameplay has me in guarded optimism mode.
    Did you want to play another scenario right after you finished the first, or did you have your fill of dice frustration and disappointment? What did you enjoy more- the planet-side (mis)adventures or the ship phase? Do you feel that the perceived difficulty level is adequately mitigated by the section deck/dice choices as characters rank up, and does that advancement process happen quickly enough to avoid big, swingy defeats?
    Thanks for your impressions. Great video! 🖖

      Sadly I must agree with everything you wrote. I WANT to love this game. This is exactly what I'm looking for in a type of game. But it would need a complete redesign on the rules.

    • @TiagoSousa026
      @TiagoSousa026 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That start of her show exactly how it couldn't be to only do the first sector. She spent 8 dices only in the first sector. Ok, she wasn't having luck but the problem is that there is no mitigation for that, only improving your crew/dices and hope for luck again. 7th Continent has similar concept not with dices but drafting cards and sees the stars and it doesn't get so frustrating as it seems to be in this case.
      I love several things in this game but I kinda have mix feelings in this one.

    • @DireMcCann
      @DireMcCann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also agree! It seems REALLY narrative driven, where it’s a choose-your-own-adventure story unfolding! Upgrades and more crew allows you to do more stuff as the game goes on... so curious where the story goes, and where the story could’ve gone! love the concept! Not sure I $99 USD love the concept...

    Great video per usual. My only concern is something that I saw come up in eldritch horror and that is when everything is a roll the fun of rolling dice becomes a chore. I prefer systems where you have a known quantity of movement/combat/healing but can roll to push yourself beyond those limits. Theme wise though this game seems like a Star Trek fans dream. I’m going to pass because I haven’t even cracked into tainted grail lol but hopefully someone in my group will back it.

    Thanks as always for the playthrough - great presentation. This helped me determine that the game is just not up my alley (or corridor, as the case may be). I really love the artwork and overall production of AR games, but the gameplay doesn't seem to afford enough player agency for my tastes. Perhaps the nature of the beast when talking about heavily narrative-driven games.

    I'm super glad to see you guys' playthrough A & F! How does the replayability feel for this one? I'm just starting Etherfields and so far I'm not sure there will be a reason for me to play through it again once I finish. This looks like it's a bit more sandboxy, if you know what I mean. I love the organizer you guys are using, where'd you get it?
    One other quick question. How is the translation of the text? I've played Nemesis, Tainted Grail, and Etherfields so far from AR and they've all got some add translation hiccups.

    • @AntLabGames
      @AntLabGames  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Replayability is solid. some planet sectors are procedurally generated so will be different each time you play through the game. For example, if a space tells you to draw card P109, there may be 3 P109 cards in the box and you would ramdomly pick one of them.
      The organizer (red and black one) is a CaddyMax from BoardGameBoost on Etsy.
      Can't judge translation as it is a prototype. Keep in mind that we see spelling and grammar issues from native English speaking developers on other game prototypes, so it's not fair to say this early in development.

    @Frankie-the-Tankie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello ALG! First off I love your videos so I just wanted to say thank you.
    Second, what is your thoughts on playing this with four players? My main group is a solid four and I tried to get them into 7th Continent, Tainted Grail, and most recently Etherfields, and they all didn't want to play again due to either the downtime between turns, or there was no reason to spread out, thus everyone was doing the same thing.
    I know you only played it once, but could this game be a "true" four player game, or is it like the above where it can play four, but it is really a solo or two player game?
    Thank you

  • @joecassar7594
    @joecassar7594 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am wondering if the numbers in the lower right-hand corner of each location is the suggested movement pattern to the game. After the basecamp (3) you have someone move to (4) which says you need to come back after the winds change - which happened the first time someone moved to (9).
    If you completed the location 5 once before you into section 8 and discovered you needed 2 more markers in 5 - you would have gone back to complete before the winds changed.

    • @AntLabGames

    I so much want a sci fi game in my collection, but this won't be the one. So much randomness and so many different dice are not for me I'm afraid. Is there a way to at least check what die every character has, with what symbols and how many of them in a glance? It all comes down to percentages, so it would be at least good to know fast what your chances are before you make every roll, and with what die from what character to help.

    • @dirks9816
      @dirks9816 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont know if its mentioned in the playthrough, but each die has the symbol with the highest chance of rolling put in brackets. So when you put all dice with the symbol in brackets upwards on your sheet, you will see at a glance what die to roll best.

    I like your presentation style. It was the best of the videos out there. I wish you had covered the tutorial so I'd have any idea what you're actually doing. 1 hour in and I'm having a hard time seeing the fun. Too much thinking about what to do and too little reward for all the effort that's being expended. Way too much dice rolling. I don't like random. I like strategy. It looks beautiful but there's not enough substance here for me. The minis should look just like the art work on the player cards and not dark gray blobs. They'd be better as standees. Maybe this will turn into a better game over the next few months but I don't know that I'm willing to decide in a couple weeks whether to back it or not. It just looks too boring unfortunately.

    I do not understand why you are making some decisions. I wish you could explain more. For example, you have to roll a die/some dice for player actions, how/why do you decide which color die to roll? Also, you have placed two cards on the lander card but they are not in any of the four boxes along the bottom of the card. Why are the boxes there if you are not using them?

    • @AntLabGames
      @AntLabGames  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dice colors have associated symbols (i.e. red dice have Arms and Shields). Each planet has different success requirements and will determine how you pick your dice load out when preparing for landing. The boxes on the bottom section of the lander represent upgrade slots. We do not have any slotted on this playthrough. The supply cards stay on the lander during the expedition and are used when resting. The cargo is on the right side of the lander card. Hope this clears things up a bit.
