Thanks SO much. Very very helpful. I’ve been trying to replace my rear wiper motor and am having to piece it together from tutorials for other years and models, but this was great!
I came here to see how to get the trim off because I have rust coming down near my license plate light. At 3.25 in this video, I see rust in the same area. I called Honda several months back to get it repaired under an extended paint warranty (paint issues with this year). They declined but offered to replace the liftgate at a discount...$2500. Will fix this myself for 2 hours' worth of work. Thank you for the tutorial.
Thanks! My gate latch was loose causing my gate to rattle around while driving. After tightening it there is no more rattle. This saved me $$$ at the repair garage. For the EX, and presumably LX, removing the lift handle is not necessary because there is no wiring harness to remove at these lower trim levels. Also be careful how the large bottom trim segment is removed. I twisted it an snapped two anchors around the latch area.
Thanks for this!!! I had a dent in the lift gate on my 2019 Odyssey, and everything worked the same as in your video. Pushed out the dent from the inside, then put the paneling all back. YAY!!! (I've never done body work at all, so it was out of my comfort zone :)
Nice simple instructions! I would add a personal opinion about the plastic pry tools. I break enough in a years time that tool truck ones are worth the extra money. Both in hassle of replacing and time without them. Diy should perform fine.
A lot of steps to get to the light assembly, but your video made it something I was able to do. Unfortunately, Honda redesigned the tailgate for the 2019 model, and even with all of that effort, you still cannot take off the light assembly!! It's kind of wedged UNDER the big chrome trim part (containing the Honda logo), so that seems to have to come off too! This 2019 is my third, and last, Honda Odyssey. I've loved them over the years, which is why I bought a third one. However, I've noticed that Honda has apparently lost all it's good engineers in recent years, and my 2019 is WAY inferior to my previous two (which I drove into the ground, and were marvelous). The end of an era. I guess it doesn't matter, as it's replacement would be an electric something-or-other, and this is definitely NOT Honda's strength ;) All this said, thanks a bunch for this video. I was able to get to the 95 yard line before hitting the wall (was I willing to risk breaking that big fake chrome piece, or just pay a professional to complete the job I'd started?).
2012 odyssey has power to tailgate latch but won’t open. Opened emergency inside tailgate panel but latch doesn’t release. Guess pull off panel to release latch?
2014 Honda odyssey took the trim off and put back on lowered the rear lift gate and now when I push the button to open it acts like it’s stuck (starts to open but then stuck) any ideas????
Nice job! Only video that goes step by step on trim removal. Keep up the good work.

Thank you! After watching your video, I had my trim off in 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Didn't even finish one song on my playlist. :)
Great vid helped me change latch on my '15 pilot with similar tailgate

Hey man,
Is the process same for 2008?

This greatly helped me repair an Odyssey, thanks!!
Would this work for the 2007 Honda Odyssey? Does anyone know?
It’s very similar process.

Based on the Service Manual for the Pilot it looks like it's about the same.
