    Guru was Abhishek's acting peak. As also the peak of box office validation as a lead hero. I think after Guru, Abhishek should have followed Hrithik and Ranbir's model of choosing only the best scripts and working on them diligently for a year. Instead he chose to do trash like Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Drona. As R. Balki rightly put it, Abhishek is a very good actor who's not a very good chooser of scripts. Hence the media which is always waiting in the trenches to drag down a rising star, pounced on him and ripped him apart, creating a negative impression of him as a privileged star kid who doesn't deserve the accolades he's getting. On account of this, Abhishek's career suffered for years. People confused his flops with lack of acting skills. But it's a good thing that he's improved his craft now and is bouncing back gradually. If he keeps chasing excellence, he'll definitely find success. Like Akshaye Khanna, Abhishek despite hits or flops will always have a a very strong and loyal cult following.

      True! But a movie with Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, Ashutosh Gowaraiker, Mani Ratnam was to follow. Some considerably big names and big movies. Those films could've sealed the "status". But unfortunately, all of them bombed. And of course there were a spate of drona, jhoom bharabar etc. kinda rubbish in between.

    I also liked Abhishek in Raavan. I don't know why that performance is ridiculed so much. Maybe because of Vikram's more compelling rendition of the character in Raavanan. Nobody can deny the fact that Vikram was leagues ahead of Abhishek in his version. But that's also 'coz Vikram is a decade older than Abhishek and has been around far more than the latter in the film industry, with an inclination towards experimenting with his roles and method acting. Also, maybe it was a bit too early for Abhishek to do a complex role like that. But that doesn't at all have to mean that Abhishek was bad in his version. He did a pretty good job and in certain sequences like the bombing of the SP's camp and the bridge fight scene he was as good as Vikram, if not better. Just 'coz someone is better in a different version, doesn't take away anything from the individual performance of someone else. Many would say Hrithik's Vijay Dinanath Chauhan doesn't hold a candle to Amitabh's. But does that have to take away anything from Hrithik's individual performance which too was quite good in its own right?

      Vikram has been doing good acting since beginning of his career. Its not like other profession where more experience is better. It depends on filmmakers and kind of work Vikram was part of, when Mani Ratnam does work in Tamil and hindi audience and I think he knows Tamil version will be better and so does the acting. Its actually unfair of Mani Ratnam in some movies to do that since audience can see what real acting is. If guru or dil se had tamil version with actors like vikram, Danush, or Madhavan it would be easy to see which perfromance was convincing.

    This was such an interesting talk. I loved how he gave out so many behind the scenes trivia and details about the film. I rewatched this movie last night before watching this and everything he said brought things into even more perspective. I understand why the 40 minute sequence got edited out, but having the knowledge of it now adds so much more depth to Guru and Sujatha's relationship. I hope he does more such cinema. He's obviously talented, but has been a victim of poor choices. While watching Guru, I couldn't help but observe how much he's played with his body language. From a young spirited guy standing tall to a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders towards the end. Also, some of Rehman's best work in Hindi cinema. The Gurubhai theme and the beats for the opening credits make me want to fuck shit up and change the world!

  • @prabhakaranudayakumar7556

    My favorite scene would be where Sujata asks Guru to take her along at the train station, omg the way she asks him and he takes her!!! Then plays Aye Hairathe! ❤❤❤
    Also the introduction of Aishwarya in Barso Re, just a wonderful dance performance, it's my niece's favorite song! That song is a lot of effort, in one scene you see the bullock's horn almost hit Aishwarya in the cart!! 😱
    And then the first meeting of them in train, she is broken, he's sleepy and yet the chemistry shine!! ❤😍
    Also Madhavan and Vidya ❤ Shauk hai is awesome scene/track. But I really loved the scene where Guru meets them both after they marry, the scene shows such grace and change in attitude of Guru towards Madhavan, it's heartening when its possible to keep all enemity and hatred aside and just have goodwill and blessings!!
    This movie has another such scene where his initial mentor the journalist comes and visits Guru stealthily when he gets paralyzed, keeping aside all the animosity aside. Just wow!! ❤
    There are so many more scenes, this one is an epic classic and made for ages. Someone save it in the arctic vault please!!!!!!!!

    I never appreciated this guy before, but what a stud human being-so articulate, so humble, so compassionate. Nepotism is a much bandied about word nowadays, but this guy truly fought and grew under and eventually away from the aura that was Amitabh Bachchan. & yes, Guru will remain one of my favourite films as well.

    I feel really bad and sad for this guy. working for almost 20 years and only one worthy solo film to boast about. lack of ambition and never ever taking his physique seriously cost him dearly in his prime. web series and 20-crore indie films can only resurrect his career now.

      He is the only actor in the history of Filmfare awards to do a hat-trick from 2004-2006 (After Dilip Kumar sir)
      Don't tell he doesn't have a body, it's the character he played and always unfairly compared to his Father.

    • @Finnola
      @Finnola 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He did say he was complacent and was riding the wave and having a great time doing films and earning money. Bollywood star kids in a nutshell while outsiders will vanish and not even get side roles. He should have taken his job way more seriously considering producers and filmmakers were like his family. When anurag kashyal used to be vocal unlike now for some reason about star kids he was right but abhishek didn't take it seriously. Only before he took a break he realized what audience was saying, its good he got second chance being part of scripts and having people to count on to give him those films. So good luck.
