  • We're painting a desert and/or arid base for our D&D blue dragon. Please ignore my mistake of saying Pale Sand during the highlighting. I should of said Pale FLESH.

That Dragon has been beautifully painted

The confidence you have drybrushing that quickly (I know it’s sped up, the point still stands), with that large a brush next to such a beautifully painted model always impresses (scares) me.

I don't have much interest in anything that isn't historical, but I find myself watching nearly all your videos simply because the techniques you teach are so versatile

No deep hurting here, just gorgeous work, top to bottom! A well crated, believable base helps to set the mood of the piece and give it a bit more life.

I couldn't find a clip of " SANDSTORM!!! SANDSTORM!!" from the same skit. See? Topical!

I've always found it odd that Blue Dragons live in the desert, a place where they definitely don't blend in... just an odd thought there. Anyhow, the base looks amazing, and there's just enough of a difference in tones between the pile of stones (I assume they're sculpted to represent some sort of ruins) and the sand and rocks so that they provide good contrast while still looking like they came from the same environment. I think it would interesting to see you paint a Black Dragon at some point; with how you've handled the other dragons you've painted so far, I have no doubt it would come out looking great.

You don't need to blend in when you're an apex predator and rule over minions to do all your work for you!

I always assumed it was the only environment left after doing the obvious ones. Green dragons for forests, black for swamps, white for arctic, etc. Guess they didn't want blue for water without making them drastically different species for an underwater environment. I read somewhere they've been moved to coastal regions, but I went with the old school.

lots of sky in the desert, if you're sitting on a peak you blend in with the sky. Or as Epiclids said, some times you say you're a badass and that's all the camo you need.

Except for the wood bottom and gravel, it's all part of the dragon mini.

Hey Doc! Love the series. Really Impressive work. Question for ya. Was the base included with the Dragon, or did you design that yourself?

It's a cheap wood base from a craft store.

really wish there was a way for pieces with sculpt and paint detail this well done to be mass manufactured for like 5 figures for $20-$25 (with todays more advanced manufacturing techniques). Something like where it really just boils down to how much material they use to make the figure is the primary basis of cost per figure. I think 3d printing with color will solve this in the coming years. I have a feeling 3d printing is going to flip a lot of industries on their heads. Think about the only thing needed is a 3d model. No need to cast, paint, sculpt or anything. And being able to print out anything figure you want at home. Want a 1/24th scale in 1/4 scale? rescale with the click of a button and BOOM! 15 minutes later (with super fast 3d printing as printers get faster and faster) you got it. But wheres the fun in any of that?
