Hello, This is my first ever comment of a video ... Thank you so much for actually going thru the steps needed for both yogurt & cheese. I recently saw a dash yogurt maker for sale, thought it was pretty cute & wouldn't take up a lot of counter space but because ive never attempted to make yogurt, I thought I'd check it out first. I did find show to video & it was good. Your video was next & I just let it continue then found myself paying attention, which doesn't happen that often .. I don't need to hear someones life story while I'm waiting to see a how-to video not do I need a kindergarten instructional, Including a 2 minute stirring saga ! You killed it & I'm headed to my laptop to purchase the BEAR yogurt maker & am actually pretty excited to give it a try. SO THANK YOU, A TRUE FAN FOR LIFE LOL ! Take Care & Happy Holidays

It’s good to see Great Value had live cultures for making yogurt! It’s a great brand and I eat it all of the time but I wasn’t sure if it was good for this or not. I used to make yogurt a lot but had to leave my Euro Cusine behind when I moved cross channel, and sure miss it. I also made my own yogurt cheese spread (similar to goat cheese spread and delish) and made my own naan breads and green tea frogert using matcha powder. Amazing! To thicken mine I used Bordon’s brand non fat powdered milk but I suspect any brand would work for this. You just need to tinker around with the recipe some to get it the way you like. I prefer thick Greek style personally but there are times when the thinner is best for making things like over night oats. Thanks for the video, I might get one of these sometime if I decide to start making fresh again. Right now there’s a cream cheese shortage so yogurt cheese is a nice alternative until things get back to normal again.

I have the Bear Yogurt Maker and I love it. I heat the milk to 180 degrees then cool it down to 110 degrees and add the starter yogurt stirring gently. I use 8-hour setting to make the yogurt then put in the strainer for another 8 hours in the fridge to get Greek Yogurt. Haven't used the 10-hour setting for Greek Yogurt but will try it next time. The instructions say to use heated milk with lemon juice or vinegar to make the cheese. But I need to know what temperature to heat the milk for cheese?

Wanted to love this machine. Loved the glass inserts, easy to clean. I had no problems with the directions as some have complained about. But in less than 3 months' time the heating element went out and it was useless. Amazon kindly replaced it for me and this time it only took 2 weeks for the heating element to die. After that they would not replace it--they said they would have to pull all the inventory from the shelves and check it off as a defective product. They refunded me the full price. I can't find anything similar to replace it with. All the other machines come with plastic containers--I don't trust the plastic won't leach out chemicals--no matter what they promise. Very sad!!

    The yogurt was very runny/thin.
A lot of the yogurt went straight through the strainer when it was strained
A thick yogurt will drain off the whey slowly when strained.
Try using UHT milk and add 1/3 cup of milk powder for a thicker creamier yogurt.
Then you can strain it to make the yogurt cheese/Labneh.

This video was very helpful to me getting started. My Bear Yogurt Maker came without the little cups, which is fine with me. And the directions now specify ounces and seem to be better. Still my own lack of math skills was my biggest obstacle. By my math, the container of milk in this video makes 2 batches of yogurt, i.e., It fills up both of the two glass jars.
My first batch of (greek) yogurt turned out great. I made it with the generic, store bought whole milk plain yogurt as a starter and the resulting yogurt was way better than the starter.
Next, I think I will try making regular yogurt using the Greek setting and skipping the straining part. I hope the extra time fermenting (2 more hours) will allow for a thicker yogurt without me having to strain and re-refrigerate the batch. I am counting on this yogurt maker to save me $$$ and will generate much less trash.

If there is that much milk left over, something's wrong. If you want thick "normal" yogurt, the milk must stay at 180 for a constant 30 minutes. Then cool it to 115, add your culture, then incubate it at 115 for 5-12 hours. 8 hrs seems to be perfect. Then refrigerate it. When cold, then when you drain it, the only thing that should drain out is the clear yellow whey.
