Volunteers can come in and they are coming in. The press is mostly only filming in Asheville though... the small towns in the mountains are GONE in many places. Unless you are search, rescue and recovery they don't want you deep in there. It is tough country and now hard to access by road.
We have a number of charity/civilian rescue organizations that are working in there. Now the Army is finally being sent in to help the NC National Guardsmen too. FEMA has been extremely slow, however. Some of the roads in these areas may not be repaired for a decade or more.
