    Hi Ron... I watch two to three DIY You Tubes every morning with my coffee, you produce great content and I added you web site to my bookmarks. I have what I call a Garage/Workshop and I have to make the best out of what I have... so everything has to be small, compact and essential otherwise it's not going to be added to my shop or tool inventory. For Christmas my extended family gave me a large gift card at Rockler, so I bought a Track Saw and rail system. I love your workbench and I plan to build it, but modify it to my Garage/Workshop... last year I built a French Cleat wall system to keep track and for easy access to my tools and this month I'm going to extent it. Your workbench design is part of that plan.... I live North of Boston so the weather is a factor in working in Garage/Workshop!!! I really enjoy your work especially with the Track Saw and I can see myself moving away from using my table saw and the advantages of a Track Saw in the shop... Again Great videos well thought out.

    I'm not a pro or anything: the caution of vertical placement of threaded inserts can be solved by using the setup of your drill press... 1) find a mm bolt that matches your insert. 2) cut off the head of bolt. 3) mount the bolt cutoff in the chuck with a jam nut against the threaded insert. 4) by hand, start the threaded insert by spinning the chuck several turns to have perfectly vertical threads. 5) finish placement of insert with your allen head wrench...

    Bought the plans and will definitely build this jig for my upcoming kitchen remodel. I'm considering making two fixed distance sets instead of an adjustable version since all my lower cabinets will always have the same offsets. A 37mm would be used for any cabinet project I would ever take on, and the back distance would always be used at least for all lower cabinets I build.

    Thanks Ron! One potential improvement suggestion - in some applications (closets come to mind), the first hole goes in the middle of the cross panel - it seems like with this jig it is not quite possible? Maybe another set of mounting holes for the rail offset towards the end so that it doesn't interfere with the router plate somehow?

    Could use the parf guide to get the holes set up with the 3mm holes and then let that hole guide the drill for the insert

    Coudnt you just remove the extra pieces you have attached to the track and have them atached via dogs to the bench. Keep the 4 hold downs saw through the outriggers that will also register to dog holes. Then its easy to make through dados and the rest of the operations. Your set up works anywhere you dont have a paulk workbench set up ie a hollow core but you sell benches 😊

    It is awesome! But….. it kinda looks like a fix for a problem that didn’t exist. The normal lr32 locaters with some TSO parallel guide system setup would be more simple and easy.

      Was just thinking the same thing. Course with the TSO guides, you'd have to add for the difference between the rail edge and center of the LR 32 holes. Wouldn't be hard. With just the 30" TSO, would be able to do just about any situation.

    Do you have a video explaining the advantages of the Kiss 2 system? If not can you point to a video explaining it.

      I am working on a long video which may end up multiple videos that explain and demonstrate it. It isn’t my creation rather a well known project proven system that solves the issues with the true 32 system. In the meantime search for Kiss ll 32mm on google and you will find lots of info.

    Is that a Festool drill? I thought you were going to go all Dewalt platform to simplify batteries?

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had 6 battery platforms. I wanted to go with just one: Festool. Festool doesn't make rough carpentry tools so I chose Dewalt for that purpose. Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee, and the other value brands don't make tools refined enough for finish carpentry so I am stuck with two battery platforms until Festool gets into worm drives and roto hammers.😎

    Hi Ron, what kind of drill bit did you use that fit into the 5mm hole in the track? Do you have a link?

    Can you explain what's the advantage of the Kiss II system? I have used the LR32 for a while now and was wondering why you add 6mm.

      I am working on a long for video going over the Kiss II system. I did not create it, but my shop used True 32 or 32 with no added constant and ran into the various issues that Kiss II deals with one being the rise of soft close drawers rubbing against counter top over hang.

    Ron I have just purchased your plans for the Smart Station, but unfortunatly here in Australia a sheet of 2400x1200 18mm plywood is $200 just wondering do you think 12mm would be ok or would it not be strong enough?

    • @MrTresto
      @MrTresto ปีที่แล้ว

      12mm is too weak. Need 18mm. See Ron's own comments on the bench/etc videos. 12mm will flex way too much, particularly the sawhorses parts. You CAN get 18mm plywood for a lot less then 200, even in Australia. You don't need oak or baltic birch or some fancy imported hardwood. 18mm pine is overall stronger than 12mm hardwood, and that's under A$100 a sheet
