    Thanks for your amazing lecture. For cantilever slab is it logical to keep torsional constant 0.01?

      I wouldn't recommend drawing cantilever slabs in ETabs. Better to calculate the DL+LL of it, and apply it on the slab.
      As far as the torsional effect of the cantilever is considered. On-site, we draw out the bars to the same length as the cantilever projection. So the load and torsion aren't taken completely by the beam alone.

    Can we release moments at the end of the failed beam connecting a lift core wall?

      In my experience I have never done that because moments will be generated at that fixed end and necessary steel needs to be provided to avoid failure.

      @@civilfieldtrainers The beam fails in earthquake load combination. Large moment & shear occurs near beam-wall junction

      And now after running the design part, you want to know how many beams and columns have failed?
      The reason I'm asking is because I don't understand why have you gone for plastic rotation of beams.
      What exactly are you trying to find out, how the beams have failed? Or at what section they have failed?

    Why do we release torsion?

      When we cast the beam and slab on site. It's cast as a monolithic structure.
      The software doesn't take that into account. For software, the beam will undergo torsion which doesn't happen in real life, because we provide an adequate amount of steel and cast the whole thing as one unit.
      Keeping torsion in beams will increase the required steel by a slight margin. So when the beams are failing. We release it so that we can get it to be safe. If it dosen't become safe even then. Then increase the sizes.

      Hello sir. Why didn't we release torsion in first place, I mean while we are defining the section ,we kept 1 why not to keep 0.01 for every beam section?...

      The bigger the member. The more stiff it is. The more stiff it is, the more forces it attracts.
