  • Deni Avdija was a growing young player on a valuable contract, the exact type of player a rebuilding Wizards squad should covet. Which is why I can't figure out why they traded him before the draft.

This is the worst decision the Wizards have made since giving Beal a Max contract. Deni could be perfect for their rebuild and could only keep increasing his trading value in case they wouldn't want to hold to him. a classical move of a new GM that takes for granted the fact he has a gem in the team with 'too good' contact to just give him away for the uknown.

Genuinely maddening. I understand we are rebuilding and want to be bad but trade Kuz, trade Tyus, trade Corey, why trade the best pick we’ve had in YEARS on a PHENOMENAL contract that will only get better as he improves. Being a wizards fan is pure hell. Why the fuck is Deni in Portland and Kyle Kuzma is still on my team? I don’t hate Kuzma but we could have 100% gotten a similar return for him + Corey or Tyus. Maddening. There’s absolutely no way I can try to rationalize this trade from a front office perspective, at least for the wizards. Portland got a good one.

Here's tank management 101 for you all: become awful to move up the draft boards, then stay bad by trading whatever relevant assets you inherited from the previous regime in order to obtain as many high draft picks as possible in the coming years. Build a solid foundation around your own picks. Then, with the remainder of the pile, trade for established all-stars and compete for championships.
PS: This strategy will never work outside of North America because in foreign sports leagues, bad teams are relegated to lower leagues for the following season rather than receiving draft compensation, resulting in a slew of lost revenue from TV, sponsorship, and gate ticket sales, potentially leading to the organization's financial demise. That is why, if you do poorly, coaches and even management are frequently sent home mid-season to avoid a potential disaster.

We are talking on a management that decided to pick up the fourth year option in Wes Unseld Jr contract just in October, so they are going to pay him full salary for 2024-5 season. Most of their decisions are bad the others are really bad and maybe 2-3 are ok. At least they got some assets for Deni. I was surprised that they signed on the contract last year. That's was there only smart decision.

bad management can't keep something good, they must do something to ruined it. Anyway, don't really understand Wizards fans that keep telling me about OKC like it's a proof for greatness. I can agree that their former boss, Presti is a great GM, but he isn't there, just some guys that work for him like, Weaver who was really bad GM in the Pistons.

I think the problem was that he was probably TOO good and not young enough.
Wizards are going for another tanking year and building towards possibly being good in 3-4 years.
sure, they would have probably preferred to get rid of Poole and/or Kuzma, but it would have been much harder to get solid draft picks for them.
still probably a bad deal trading away a known solid young roleplayer for potential future picks, but since when have the Wizards management have been known to be competent
