In 2023 my buddies and I got briefly obsessed with Pokemon, and wanted to try to rescue Pokemon from GEN 1 and 2 before the batteries died, and bring them all the way to current gen, but found out the link breaks between 2 and 3. I started to research workarounds, which me and my buddies dubbed "the Pokemon project". I lacked the technical expertise necessary, but came across the other two projects you mentioned. When those yielded dead ends for me, I finally jailbroke a 3DS, got copies of the GEN 1 games for it, dumped the cartridge save files, and injected it into the digital copies of the game, and called it a day. Coming across this, however, I feel like that project is officially complete. Thank you
I accidentally saved a treasure trove of mons from my Crystal version by transferring them to Stadium 2... 20 years ago. The GB save batteries are long dead, and the files lost, but Stadium 2 never dies. I was glad to have those, it had the Mewtwo I caught in my first ever Blue version playthrough. And I used the process you've just described. This would've been cooler, though.
This is an awesome video! Glad to have been a small part of the project, and you really helped me out on my latest E-Cards. The final result looks SO GOOD.

this is super dope!! goppier's vids blew my mind when they first released, lorenzooone's tool is fantastic, and now i'm eager to try out this new spin on it. great work both on the program, and on cataloging the history of cross-gen transfers.
You did an absolutely incredible job on this man! One thing I'm curious about though, how are the pokemons' PIDs generated after the transfer? Do a pokemon's generation 1/2 IVs have any influence over their generation 3+ IVs, or are their stats fully rerolled after the transfer? Regardless, I hope to see more projects of yours going into the future!
Due to gen 3's pseudo-randomization, it isn't super feasible to maintain IVs based on DVs. At the moment at least, they are randomly rolled (although I'd like to see if I can figure out how to change that in the future!)
@thegearsofprogress1964 Do you think it's be possible to reverse engineer how game freak transfer from VC to bank and use that method? Or do they reroll as well?
@@dylanbeatty3262 They reroll as well, but also have 3 of the IVs maxed out (5 for Mew/Celebi). From my research, that wouldn’t really be possible while maintaining gen 3 true legality, due to the pseudo randomization method Gen 3/4 use. An in-game event that feels like a proper trade event, nicely done! I'm working on a small project of my own. I've been rather unsatisfied with a lot of "Bring Pokemon Green to English" projects, because either they try to go for a true Japanese version, basically just being Blue but with Green's graphics, or are incomplete conversions for one reason or another. What I'm attempting to do is bring over Green as if it was a true U.S. release as Nintendo of America would have done it, complimenting our Red and Blue. So, it'll have Japanese Blue's catches, trades, casino prizes and so on, but Japanese Green's graphics, and it's pokedex descriptions by way of the official translation done in Pokemon FireRed. A lot of the project is more or less already done in a github I found, but it's that specific mix of traits I'm looking for. Since I intend it to feel very "official", that'll also include changing the "drunken" reference, but I won't go and say the guy was tired or something, I'll let it be a line that can be interpreted two ways. Anyway, I'm interested in making sure this version ends up compatible with your project.
WOW this gave me chills! Truly a milestone in Pokémon history, congratulations! btw what's the music at 8:11 ? sounds like a reprise of BW transfer lab
what would be really cool is if you could give these real transfered Gen1 and 2 Pokémon the same special tag/icon that the pokemon transferred to the virtual games would have that shows they were from the old gen but this is insanely awesome keep up the great work
Congrats on completing this amazing project! It looks very very good. I can't wait to give this a go myself in the near future. Quick question though. I've seen a few videos showcasing the beta version, and it seemed a little buggy with few things after transfer such as nicknames and OT names. Have this been fixed in the new release? :)
@@joernsaermark Thank you so much for the kind words!! The Nicknames and OT Names *should* be fixed in this most recent version (I haven’t had any issues as of yet and haven’t heard anyone else having issues either) but I would recommend making save backups *just* in case 😅

Hey great video! I actually found many videos showing off your rom already before stumbling on this video. I haave to say, I have been playing through every generation of pokemon the last couple months with the intention of transferring up all my mons to home. However, I was super disappointed to find out that I would not be able to transfer my gens 1-2 mons to 3 and so on because I wanted to use my shiny Eevee from yellow as my ribbon master. So I settled on just sending the gens 1-2 pokemon to bank, then to home. Even though I found some other ways to send a gen 1/2 pokemon to gen 3, I just thought it would be too risky with legal checks later on, along with other reasons. However, your hard work seems to be something I am genuinely considering, so first and foremost, THANK YOU!! I just had a couple questions: 1) Obviously pokemon from gens 1/2 would have the origin mark if transfered from the VC games to home, and I understand that these marks are removed with this rom to make them compatible with gen 3. Is the reason for this because the rom changes a gen 1 pokemon like Eevee for instance originate from Fire Red/ Leaf Green as far as Emerald is concerned? So I I were to transfer an Eevee from Crystal that I got from Yellow into Emerald, it would still have its original ID and OT, just modified to not have the origin mark, and added characteristics like natures, PID and so on? In other words, how does a gen 1 or 2 pokemon change in order to be considered 'legal' by Home standards? 2) Do shiny pokemon retain their shininess with this rom as well? 3) Are these pokemon that are transferred from gens 1 and 2 completely safe to use online eventually in scarlet and violet? Or would it still be a little sketchy by game freak standards? Thank you again and sorry for the complicated questions, i already accepted the fact that at one point I would not be able to transfer my gen 1/2 mons up to 3 and beyond but now that this is an option I wanted to ask these questions to be extra confident.
Thank you so much for the kind words!! To answer your questions- 1. At the current moment, Pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow will have a met location of FireRed, while Pokemon from Gold/Silver/Crystal will have a met location of HeartGold. However, over the past week someone brought to my attention an issue regarding ribbons, so the option to have all Pokemon be from FireRed will be added in an update in the near future. The met location is only based on the game the Pokemon is being transferred from, not their source game, so an Eevee from Yellow -> Crystal -> Emerald would have a met location of HeartGold/Johto. 2. Yes! Pokemon will retain their shininess, and Gen 1 Pokemon that have the correct DVs to be shiny will become shiny upon transfer 3. By the time Pokemon reach Scarlet and Violet, they will be indistinguishable from a legit Pokemon from FireRed/HeartGold. There *technically* is a data value that is set to an illegal value in Gen 4, but that value isn't used for anything and was removed in Gen 7, so it's not a big deal. A full chart of legality can be found on the GitHub page for the project!!github.com/GearsProgress/Poke_Transporter_GB
@@thegearsofprogress1964 Thank you so much for the quick and informative reply! You definitely gave me more confidence with all this! Considering everything you said, I think what I might do is just trade my shiny Eevee back to Yellow and then trade it to Emerald using your rom so that its met location would be FireRed instead of HeartGold which would alleviate any problems with ribbons you mentioned? Also what was the issue someone brought up regarding ribbons? I was just wondering since this is the main reason I am doing all this hahaha XD. Just one last question as well, pokemon in the summary screen state that they were met in a fateful encounter, why is it that this must be used as a way to make them legal? I thought this specific text was used for pokemon you get through events only and was also a way for Game Freak to deduce if you had a legit mew or deoxys from gen 3. EDIT: I just saw another video of someone transfering up a pokemon from red all the way to Scarlet/Violet using this, and the summary screen says 'it has travelled across space and time to join from the Kanto region', I guess that is also what makes the pokemon 'indistinguishable' from a legit pokemon? Because as far as Game Freak is concerned at THAT point, the mon originated from Fire Red right? So sorry for all the questions! But thank you so much for already being so helpful!
Well, now I just need a flash cart and I could transfer my pokemon from my yellow/blue to my sapphire/leafgreen and then send copies to omega ruby and then to pokemon home, this is epic dude!
This is really cool. I was an avid follower of Goppier's effort but in the end it's been ages since his last update. I hope you will do a followup video on how the Pokemon data structure is copied. I want to know how you handle things introduced in gen 3 and especially things that would be kind of illegal by Bank standards. I also echo the sentiment of many other commenters in the fact that it would have been cool to use characters that were already available by gen 3 (if I remember correctly the Pokemon Bank girl was already used in Pokemon Box so she could have been it), but this is more of a nitpick than anything.
Fun fact: This will actually connect to SEVEN different English-language GB games! Seeing as Shockslayer developed Crystal Clear to be 100% compatible with all OG games in the series, you can absolutely transfer all your CC 'mons to SV...or any number of better games, than that one! :p (Yeah, I know a lot of people already do this via the 3DS already, thanks to the in-game Bank-ready features....but now, you can do it IRL! ^^)
Great work and collaboration! I have been working on similar projects via the link cable and not a flash cart, but your method allows for mass Pokemon transfer. Very impressive. I would love to work together or bounce ideas off you and your team if you are available.
This is really cool. But I feel like you only explained some of your coding process, and completely glossed over what it actually looks like to execute Poke Transporter GB. I finished the video and I still don't know if what you created was a modified game cart, or something that needs a gameboy in the middle to run, or a custom cable, or what.
Thank you for asking this! I feel like I'm going crazy! Everyone is super excited, but even though a file is provided there's no step by step how to actually do the transfer itself. I assume it requires a flash cart or something. XD I can't just insert that file into my GBA so easily. It isn't a DS.
I definitely realized that I was lacking info about how to actually *use* the program soon after uploading the video- apologies for the lack of communication there! A full tutorial video about how to load the program and use it is coming soon- I just want to finish up a few things before it goes live so that it can be a full tutorial :)
@@thegearsofprogress1964 That'a a relief. :D As Pokemon Bank dooms day marches ever closer I would love to save my original teams from the confines of their old Brainboy backups and bring them into Home.

To answer your questions-
2. Yes! Pokemon will retain their shininess, and Gen 1 Pokemon that have the correct DVs to be shiny will become shiny upon transfer
I also echo the sentiment of many other commenters in the fact that it would have been cool to use characters that were already available by gen 3 (if I remember correctly the Pokemon Bank girl was already used in Pokemon Box so she could have been it), but this is more of a nitpick than anything.
i'm only mad about this because i had a similar idea, but as a replacement for the official services.
besides that, this is unbelievably awesome
Fun fact: This will actually connect to SEVEN different English-language GB games! Seeing as Shockslayer developed Crystal Clear to be 100% compatible with all OG games in the series, you can absolutely transfer all your CC 'mons to SV...or any number of better games, than that one! :p
(Yeah, I know a lot of people already do this via the 3DS already, thanks to the in-game Bank-ready features....but now, you can do it IRL! ^^)
This was poetic my guy.
If it makes you happy then I'm happy for you.
THIS IS SO COOL. I WANT TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS SOMEDAY
Great work and collaboration! I have been working on similar projects via the link cable and not a flash cart, but your method allows for mass Pokemon transfer. Very impressive. I would love to work together or bounce ideas off you and your team if you are available.
I'd love to! Let me know what the best way to contact you would be, and I'd love to chat :)
Technology is incredible!
amazing work!
This is huge, you're huge, congrats!!
I’ll probably never use it but mad props to you
this is a dream come true :,) 💚
this is fucking sweet, dude
ahhh i was hoping to see a full transfer in action from start to finish
Thank you for fulfilling my childhood dream
Very cool, big respect
It's finally happening. The gaps are closing in.
This is incredible!
This looks amazing.
Well Done for this.
Have you thought about making a Pokemon Bank GB.
Somewhere we can store these pokemon that can communicate between gens?
Unsure how possible it would be but could be an interesting concept none the less.
This, people working to bring Gen 3 ONLINE… I’d love for someone to bring Contests online too, given ORAS’s weren’t, and BDSP’s were depressing. Still, it speaks to the passion of some people.
A majority of my Pokémon from every game I've played are in a perpetual state of stasis, living on my hard drives somewhere in hopes of one day making it to a game I'd get the motivation to bring everyone over.
Maybe this is it
Man forget this what frame style did everyone rock😤
This is REALLY cool, the custom graphics really sell it! I hope to give this a try sometime C:
