FAKE POKEMON CARDS - How to Identify Them

- Trying to determine if you have Fake Pokemon Cards? Watch this video for tips on identifying fake cards.
This video shows examples of fake Pokemon cards and explains the differences between real and fake cards. Some things you should look for are the following:
Make sure the card isn't really flimsy or off-centered.
Make sure the font isn't weird looking.
Make sure the Ultra Rare cards are the right color
Make sure that the holo pattern isn't one solid, reflective color.

Oh no, You have to look at the year it was made in. For example, 2019 Had Pokemon with a Max of 300 HP. 2020 Had a max of 340 HP.
And 2021 had a Pokémon that had 360

Cherubi no! And, I hated my friend from school. He had a "Shadow Pikachu" With 999 Health and said it was legit when I knew it was fake. It was even taped to a Chimchar card. Poor Chimchar.

theres a simple way to identify ANY fake card with just ONE trick
take a magnifying glass and look very closely at the dark blue border at the back of the card.
with a FAKE card you should see tiny cyan and magenta dots because they are printed with standard CMYK ink.
with a REAL card you shouldnt see any dots there because its printed with a special blue ink. (only the border, all other parts of the back are still printed in CMYK)
this works everytime, if you still cant identify the fake cards you have an extremely, bizarrzly high quality fake or your magnifying glass isnt good enough :p

When I was a kid me and my friends would head down to the cheep Chinese dollar store and buy fake pokemon card packs for 99 cents. We knew they where fake and would just buy them for laughs. I still remember how cheep and messed up they where. I got a fake as can be Blastoise card with the picture upside down. Its had 40 hp and was a grass type. haha good times!

At school one of my friends said that he got awesome pulls from a pack of pokemon cards that are from China when he showed me the cards I could tell that they were fake because he had like 5 primal groudons from a single pack of cards and when i told him that they were fake, he got mad at me and said that Chinese pokemon cards are different than american ones but the primal groudons weren't even holographic.I once again told him that they were fake and now he isn't talking to me.

I have the same gar chomp card but it came from a legit pack. It has diffrent hp and moove points. I can't tell if it's real or fake. Can u get fake cards based of the original legit card.

So i have a really weird question. I recently Went through my old pokemon tcg Collection. I noticed that i have 2 identical Blastoise EX. Everything on the two cards looked the same. Except one thing: One of the Blastoises has 180 HP, and the other has 18000 HP. Why is that?
Unfortunately the one with 18000 is going to be fake.

Hey Primetime! I just got my hands on a BUNCH of old Pokemon Cards, and I'm a bit confused by them. A lot of them don't look like the pictures that I see on Troll and Toad, but they pass the tear test. Many of them have gold lettering and a gold border, and are from sets like Holon Phantoms. A lot of them also have the set name in the bottom right corner of the picture on the card. I got them from a friend, who has been collecting for a long time and apparently opened up a lot of packs when they were younger. But the gold letters and border don't match up with what I see on the websites where these cards are sold. What do you think?
I'm not PTP, but it sounds like those are reverse-holographic cards. Reverse-holos from Holon Phantoms and the other EX R/S/E/FR/LG sets (iirc) come with a gold border and the set name in the picture (and I believe the ones with gold names are rares). Sounds like the cards there are real!

At 6:22 you say that no Pokémon cards (that you know of) are glossy, but the Japanese vending machine series cards are printed on glossy card stock, unlike the regular matte card stock.
I was actually taken aback myself the first time I picked up a card from the Vending S1 series (a Metapod).

so......you forgotten one major point.........
pokemon company puts a layer of blackish paper or ink to prevent see through and make it harder to tear.
so,if you use a magnifying glass or zoom in in a photo,u can see a black line in the middle (at the side of the card )
or you could tear to see but that is only for showing purposes
and btw i got a secret rare empolean from a booster box ( plasma freeze )
ist and only booster box so far............
i got a zaptos ex and and itwas al pelling and this guy traded me it and eventually it ripped and it was sticky tin like that so thank for the info

I remember a local convenience store that sold things like fireworks, etc. and they would have tons of fake Pokemon cards and fake Yugioh cards in little boxes for like $1. My mom bought 1 or 2 for me once and I immediately knew they were fake just because the entire package had legendary cards in them but they were all glossy in finish. Very strange lol

Another way to tell if a pokemon card is fake is pick at a corner of the card, and see if there is any black like cardboard, the black cardboard would help the protection of the card so it's not as flimsy

honestly the best way to tell id to feel a real card. If you know how they feels and looks, font, sides ect, its hard to miss fakes. If a fake is so good you cant tell does it matter.
my friend buys pokemon GX's of amazon but after watching this i know his cards are fake. i thought the different font was maybe because they changed it or something so i traded real cards for some of his. im gonna revert the trades because that is just annoying

Yep, for the most part it is pretty easy to spot fake Pokemon cards.
On the Scyther card, not to mention the weakness/resistance/retreat cost areas are in the wrong place, and the retreat cost is insane.
+PrimetimePokemon Kinda surprised you didn't mention that there's a black layer inside real Pokémon cards that makes them harder to tear. It also means you can't shine a light through them. If you hold a torch behind a fake card, the light goes right through.
Also making friction on the surface makes it so you can tell if there is a sticker on top helps. Rub your fingers along the surface. Does it feel like its a sticker?
I remember watching this during a time where I have nowhere to buy real Pokémon cards. It was around June of 2012.
Another way to tell real cards from fake cards is that if there is no copyright symbol at the bottom next to the date, or if it doesn't say tm on the back next to "Pokemon", then it's fake. I have a fake Starly with no copyright. I keep it next to the same one, only real, and ask people which one is real and which is the fake.

Im not a collector of Pokemon cards since I prefer playing the Pokemon game. This video would help people tell the difference between real and fake Pokemon cards. So it would be best to buy your cards rather than getting the 2nd hand.

Years ago to see if a card was fake, hold it to the light. If the card was fake, light would pass through it is if it was hollow.
You are very so correct on many of your points. But if I may. I'm fairly certain that Wizards of the Coast used the foil sticker front for many of their early holo cards. I only know this because I had a bad habit of washing them in my pant pockets.
I have both of the mega charizards of flashfire fakes. They are 100% identical to the real cards but they are flimsy like the cards you showed. I do still keep them cuz even tho they are not legit they still look pretty cool.

I have a special energy with the glowing print all over it but instead if shiny line it's shiny circle things. I tried all the stuff to see of it were fake, but it wasn't.
In the second or third grade my friend claimed they had a Torterra with 700 HP. And I was all, "yeah right." Well, back then I didn't even know people made fake cards, so when they brought it the next day I was stunned, and asked a trade of the Torterra for a Magikarp. Denial. Seemed like a good deal to me :(
you can peel of a reverse holo fros black and whit base set (i just test it myself) and they are harder to rips

Hello, I recently got a few first gen cards but I'm not sure if they're fake or not. The back of the cards are slightly darker (not even noticeable unless you compare) than the sixth gen cards that I have. Have the hues been slightly altered throughout the years, or do you think my cards are fake? Thank you so much!
The cards do appear a little different throughout the years, where did you get yours?
I don't even remember, I was cleaning out my room and found them. It was a big pile of cards. Some of them were obviously fake (300 HP Murkrow) and others took a little bit of research to determine they're fake. After some research, I was pretty confident that the first gen cards in the pile were real until I noticed the slight difference in color.
In most of your videos, you stay fairly calm and even-toned, but this one had you riled up. I felt that way when my brother and I got a fake Duel Masters Base Set Booster Box. We took it outside and burned it!

Another way to determine is that real cards have a bit of black paper in the center so if you rip a card and if there isn't any black paper it's fake

i thought my gold star umbreon was fake when i bought it due to it not being foil but after some research turns out the set it comes from (pop 5) doesnt have any foils and its only the japanese version that is foiled
For some reason,my fake Pokemon cards from | black and white, plasma blast | are harder and thicker,the card is not easily ripped and the shiny cards have patterns which reflects,the only difference from my real Pokémon card is the back of the card , the color is different, its more light......
