What a beautiful and wonderful lady. So glad you made this video. There is so much knowledge that this generation has to share if we just listen. What beautiful quilts.
My grandma was the best!! Growing up with her and I say with her because my sister, myself and my cousin were always at her house together and we got to watch her design and make the clothes for her fashion shows. She made so much. I can see her back room filled with dresses ready to go out to people that paid for em. She was such a gifted talented person. I am so thankful for the Maryland Art Council for putting her story out there. I’m glad I could be there for this moment.
Your Grandmother is a treasure. The video is peaceful and spiritual, owing to her presence. I shared the video with my wife and she cried. I asked her why, and she said because of the spiritual feeling she felt from your Grandmother.
When I was a little boy coming up I used to watch Miss Cathine sew down in the basement mastering her craft I did know the history behind what she was doing I wish I would have paid more attention. YOU'RE THE BEST. YOU GO MISS CATHERINE .
Catherine is one of the most creative, giving women I have ever met! We were truly blessed the day she joined our guild! Thank you for this wonderful video of an exceptional woman and artist.
Mrs. Catherine is an amazing quilter. She does beautiful work and lots of it. During Show and Tell at the AAQB Quilt Guild meetings she would show work she did during the month and folks would ask, "when do you sleep'". She is quite an inspiration. Brings me to tears when she talks about her mother's quilt.
This is a Awesome Story bout her parents & her life . Mrs. Catherine hands are a Gift from God .. it move me when she stated when she wrap up that she feel that her mom is hugging her🙏🏽
Wonderful story. Ms Catherine is a beautiful soul. I’m so thankful work is being done to preserve this art form. It would be an absolute blessing to have one of her quilts. Thank you for sharing this very important message. Blessings
This is a beautiful tribute! It brings back memories of my grandmom who also quilted but sadly none of her quilts remain. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if local schools and churches could sponsor quilting clubs especially for youth so that this art form is not lost?! Thank you for sharing Ms Wooten!
Catherine is a beautiful lady. I live in a country that had a long history of poverty and famine but when the country started to become wealthy 35 years ago people stopped crafting seeing it as a reminder of poverty. Its a shame that traditional crafts have all but vanished. Isn't there a sense of achievement when you look at something and say I made that. Who cares if it isn't perfect? More of these videos please.
the algorithm blessed me with this gem. i immediately went to search for Ms. Wooten and learned that she transitioned last year. Is Suzanne Coley hosting any workshops to keep passing on Ms. Wooten's knowledge? i'm having trouble finding her online...
Thank you for your kind comment! All of Suzanne Coley's textile designs, books, and art incorporate sharecropping quilting techniques. You can connect with her via her website here: suzannecoley.com/
