  • All does not go to plan as I build up the front end of my 500!
    A quick journey through the install of:
    - Handguards, by Highway Dirt Bikes
    - Heating elements, by Heat Demon
    - Enduro Windscreen, by Bajaworx
    - XL80 LED lights, by Baja Designs
    - some LED indicator strips that promptly smoked themselves to death!

    Easy way to install grips is to use a compressor and shoot some air between the bar and the grip while pushing/pulling the grips to position

    Diluted dishsoap or Windex works well for installing grips. I used to work at a bicycle shop as a kid. Try installing the old Ten Speed foam on the bars. Brake cleaner will work also but you got get the grips on and in place quickly. Doesn't leave any oil residue behind or attack the rubber.

    Hi Keith, I just picked up my 2023 500 exc-f. I have been looking at the HDB products for myself.
    W hat kind of problems have you run into with your set up. Really appreciate your how to videos . I'm coming from a Ktm 300 xc w 2017.i love the simplicity of the carbed 2 stroke. This bike is very sophisticated in comparison to the 2 stroke
    Thanks again..

    For the LED turn signals, did you end up needing to do anything special to get them working properly? I installed LED turn signals on my 2020, and all four flash when I turn either signal on. After research, it appears its due to voltage coming back through the dash turn signal indicator, and is enough to light up the other side of leds (it wasn’t enough power to light up the OEM bulbs).
    The sicass led turn signal wiring solution is on its way now. Did you have this issue?

      @LenartoGarage 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah just watched your other video, looks like it’s a common issue. Removing the turn signal indicator bulb works as a temporary solution. I’m guessing the solution offered by Sicass has the diodes you mentioned. Great videos, thank you for putting in the time and effort to create them.

    Hi Keith, Have you had any issues with you brake cables tubing on the inside of your windscreen from the front suspension travel while riding?

    Hi Keith love the vids keep up the good work. I have just bought a 2018 500 exc and am located in Qld Aus. I am wondering did you buy all your stuff from the states or did you get it from an Aus distributor? I am struggling to find some parts for my bike specifically hand guards and an ignition cover.

    • @keithjob
      @keithjob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A mix of both countries... eg. the HDB hand guards were imported from US as I don't believe there is an Aus distributor. But the IMS tank I bought from the Aus distributor. I try to support Aus businesses where possible, especially if the costs are similar.

    Hey mate ! What diameter tap did you use in the handle bars? The channel is a wealth of really solid advice and tech!! Thanks

      The anti-vibe inserts came with the tap.. it is 5/8"-11

    Hi Keith. I really appreciate your videos. I’m just starting to build my own 2021 500 EXC-F. Have all the parts. The part I find missing in your videos is how you did the wiring. Where from did you take the power for all the devices you have installed on your handlebar? Did you use extra fuses/fusebox? No ignition key lock? No power relay? As you can read between the lines I’m not an electrician. Could you share any additional information that would be helpful for a novice to do the electrical part? Best regards from Finland to all you light adv guys realizing your dream bike.

      Hi Erkki. For power to the GPS units and 12V socket I ran a separate two-core wire from the battery to the front of the bike, just along the frame. There's a fuse on it near the battery. The heated grips take their power from the headlight circuit - I spliced into that at the front of the bike. Possibly I could do that better by finding another switched feed up there, but hey it works.
      On other bikes I have used a separate fuse box that has a relay and therefore switched/unswitched outputs, but there is just no room on the 500, even for a small fuse box.

      Thank you Keith.
      My build is following yours on many details and The Rolling Hobo on some others. You guys make it much easier for others to follow. I try to keep things simple as well. I chose to use German Kellermann LED turn signals (not on my bike yet). They are amazingly small but powerful. I hope to be riding very soon.

    How did you learn how to do all this stuff? I want to get a ktm 500 and do adventure setup but don't know much about bikes. It will probably cost a fortune to get a shop to do it all for me.

      Bernie T, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time...
      Like I mentioned in the valve check video I have ridden for 30 years before doing valve checks. Just do one thing, say an oil/filter change, get comfortable with that, then add something else to your repertoire.

      Not quite sure what you're referring to Albi. The switchblock on the LHS is stock KTM unit that came with the bike.

    Hi Keith thanks for sharing, I’m mounting most the same on my 500, can I ask you how you set up the electric wiring to provide sources for the heated grips, 12v outlet and Garmin cradle? Any specific harness, fuses?

    • @keithjob
      @keithjob  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ran one separate fused feed from the battery to the front. That feeds the 12V socket and GPS cradle and is always on. The heated grips are connected to the headlight low beam wire, and are thus switched with ignition. The grips only draw 3A max so the headlight circuit can handle that.

    Where did you get the Baja XL80 light and will the standard stator run it?

    • @keithjob

      XL80 came from motominded.
      Standard stator seems to handle it fine.

      @@erkful They came direct from the US manufacturer, so unfortunately the exchange rate makes the whole setup rather expensive.
