"get it out of my system", "it will go away". You hit the nail on the head. Same thoughts for so many like you and I. it doesn't work that way. God wants us to be good, productive people. Sexual orientation is not important to God-he loves us.

Strange, that. I had exactly the same thoughts for so many like I, and like you too. Another weird thing: I know what god thinks too. I know what he wants, when he wants it, and how he wants it done as well. And I really really know what’s important to him. It’s such a shame that many other folks are not as full of certitude as I and you!

Taking the LDS references out, these stories work just as well for me people like me who was raised as a Southern Baptist. I am 71 and lived in that religion trap until I was 41. The God I was being presented with early in my life was so wrong. People had twisted and misinterpreted scripture to suit an certain bias. Love wins every time. Still a believer. Still in church. Still a minister. Still trying to show people a loving God.

"The thought of disappointing family" may I ask how old you are? If you are over 21 and your family cannot accept accept you for who you are, they don´t deserve a place in your life. You were not born to fulfill other peoples expectations. You know the expression "the gift of life", right? Your parents gave you this gift, they made you who you are. They are not entitled to take that gift away from you.

I can totally relate to your story. Mine is almost identical. Technically, I'm bisexual, so I married my first wife, with the idea in mind, that if I had a woman in bed with me every night, that "maybe" my homosexual attractions would "go away." Naturally, they didn't. I tried praying my homosexuality away, I tried drinking and drugging my homosexuality away, and that didn't work either. I began Prayerfully Studying the Holy Bible, and GOD revealed to me, that HE does NOT make mistakes. And that HE created me to be a bisexual, and really more "gay" than straight. And HE showed me through his word that contrary to popular "man-made religious OPINION" and "false man-made religious Interpretation" that a persons sexual orientation, is not only "not a choice" but it's also "not a sin." And it's also not something that GOD is going to "fix." Because GOD doesn't "fix" what is NOT broken. GOD Bless you on your life's journey.

Sounds like this guy was only recently out to himself before making this video. I could be wrong but was sensing that he still had a lot of shame...spoke a little halting, couldn’t look into the camera, etc. vid was 3 years ago...hoping this man has done well in the interim and become more comfortable with himself. It was a lot to process in the short time between coming out to himself and making this vid...maybe happened a little too quick. I had a very similar story and becoming comfortable with my self took a while...years and years of learned negativity to get rid of. my heart goes out to him and hope he’s doing well and happy in his life now

You can't really help how you truly feel. I get that.
No one should care because it doesn't matter, and it's none of their damn business to begin with!
I don't even see how anyone should think they need to 'come out.' Who cares what the small thinkers will think?
It's sad that so many are scared shitless of their feelings and bodies, and are compelled to afflict others with what they choose to try to impose what they think one should be due to their own fear, religion, ignorance, or maybe their own damn repressions.
Total bullshit is what that is.
Just be happy and as good as you can be to those in your path through life.
What really taught me to think this way was when a great long time male freind made a move on me, quite shocked, I had to reject it as gently as I could because he was such a great person, and I kind of knew he was probably gay anyway. But it was a hell of an awkward moment.
I remember feeling terrible when I realized the courage it must have taken for him to open up like that and be turned away.
Sadly, he disappeared, and I haven't seen him for many years.
I just hope he's okay, and happy because he absolutely deserves to be.

I can sympathise with this young man, knowing that he has been subject to indoctrination by the rigid teachings of the LDS church. I am now 89 years old, but back when I was 25 I came out to my parents who then tried to pressurise me to date a "nice girl" and everything would work out. I can remember saying at the time, "what sort of a life would the girl have with me showing no sexual interest. That stopped the discussion right there! Subsequently I met a nice guy and we were in a relationship for nearly fifty years before he died. My family eventually came to accept the situation. I am grateful that my insights as a young man prevented my having to go through these agonising thought processes.

Andrew, just as an OBTW, you are not slow or out of the ordinary in any way for the way you treated your recognition of being gay; trying to bury or outgrow that ‘phase;’ hoping ‘the right girl’ could save you from your homosexual attractions; thinking that you could and should marry...all of it. Many of have walked that same path.
Years ago there was the ‘men’s movement’ in California (80s - 90s) and it was a sort of priesthood for secular guys who wanted to be close to other men of all orientations. I met many men who had married, stayed married, raised families, and were finally ready to lift the veil on their innate sexuality in their fifties and sixties.
So, relax. Be you. Love yourself. There’s a lot to love under your hat.
You’re strong. You will be fine. Look for the real you and invite that guy into your life.
Soon enough, you will find someone to genuinely love with a love you haven’t
discovered up to now. And, he will be lucky to find you.

The problem is theirs not yours. Thank you for sharing your story. Yes, some men don't reach this point until they are in their 60's and have been married for 40 years. It took me years of dating and one broken engagement to a woman, along with reaching the age of thirty, before I was able to fully accept my homosexuality and come out. A deeply conservative and religious upbringing creates a personal hell of self-hatred when you are taught from day one that who you are is an ugly abomination. Like you, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of acceptance my family and friends gave me when I finally worked up the courage to come out. Now, at age 55, I am happily married to my wonderful husband of 12 years and life couldn’t be better! Sometimes I regret the lost years of my youth that I spent in stubborn denial and internalized homophobic torture, but, considering how good things are now, I’m convinced the path we take and where we end up happens exactly the way it should. Thanks for telling your story and best wishes to you.

When you're growing up, you hear homophobic comments and words from everyone, - family and friends. Then one day it hits you - they're talking about me! That's when the panic and shame starts. Oh my God, how do I get out of this situation? Am I gonna be like this forever? Why is this happening to me? Then you realise that you have 3 options; 1) Commit suicide. 2) Tell everyone and risk being disowned, ridiculed and even beaten up - sometimes by family. 3) Disappear, go somewhere new and start your life again as the real you. You hear people say "It's a phase, it'll pass". But then you realise that no phase lasts that long and then the realisation that you are stuck like this forever. There's no escape and no changing who you essentially are. When I came out, I had to drop a few 'friends' who suddenly didn't like me for what I had never done before. They just hated me. Getting them out of my life was the first step and I surrounded myself with people I could/can trust. My father took a very long time to accept me, even though I really felt that he never did. My mother and sisters were fine about it. My mother gave me a big hug and said "It changes nothing, you're still my baby boy" My younger sister is very protective of me and if anyone is homophobic to me in her presence, then God save their soul, she is ferocious. At the end of the day, LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO PRETEND, MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY FIRST. THEN MAKE OTHER PEOPLE HAPPY. Sometimes you have to be selfish. If someone can't accept you, cut them out of your life (That includes family members and so-called friends) Now I feel NO SHAME. I LIKE COCK - deal with it - this is my attitude now. Don't let names and words upset you. Yeah, I'm a fag - and what?!? DEAL WITH IT OR FUCK OFF!!!!!!!

He recognized that he had same sex attraction. He lived in denial. He tried running away from it by doing all the things that people deem “normal” like dating girls. Dating girls didn’t work out. He came to terms with being gay. Came out to family who were supportive. The end. I just saved you almost 17 minutes of torture. You’re welcome.

Beautiful guy - but strange. You would expect him to end by saying how he's begun to date guys and how things have turned out. I'd like to know more ! All that effort directed at the girls. What about all those gay guys out there. He's a nice and attractive man.

Reading your sentence here I thought it was going to go in an entirely different way. I am glad it turned out alright, haha.

Did you ever blame God and or mad at him for doing this to you?

I have a similar question. God knew I am gay at birth. So all the pain, rejection & loneliness...Why?

Canta Libre For myself, I’m not certain I ever blamed God as much as I suffered in many ways. Tried to pray the gay away. There was a point as a young man that came very close to suicide for many reasons.
Over many years, and from guidance from three wonderful pastors, I came to some truths and realizations. Fred isn’t broken and God doesn’t make mistakes.
It did happen and was not a good time in life. All very true.

God isn't doing anything bad to you. The people that are homophobic are giving you the massive fear of coming out. Shame on them. Not God.

You are doing what many people do when public speaking. Using the phrase 'You know" over and over. Your story is inspiring but try to conciencessly correct that.
