Diana Dors was a really good and talented actress, with over a hundred film roles, many to great acclaim. Every one I've seen is confirmation of that. She didn't stand a chance, though, being manipulated by the wrong types of men in the film industry, beginning in her early teen years. She graduated with honours from LAMDA as their youngest student [she lied about her age, to get in]. With all the adulation, and that face and body, she was a natural target for the expoliters, and the 'Blonde Bombshell' idea quickly developed. The parties and orgies - which would hardly raise an eyebrow in this present age - might well have been part of the reaction of a strong but sensitive woman doing her best to survive all that falseness. Her life was more a tragedy than a scandal, I think.
Thanks for this. As well as the story and acting I enjoyed Hitchcock's typical English dry humour.

Diana Dors deserves a "cult-like" dedication- she shouldn't be regarded as a Marilyn Monroe "wanna-be"- when I was younger I disliked everything about her but when I'd seen many more films- I've developed a respect for her talent. Her make-up was often "awful" but she cleverly took the "in" bleach and "goop" and created a trademark look, nobody could ever NOT notice her! Namaste from Canada

Back in her heyday she was suppose have been Britain's answer to their search for their Marilyn. Although they were both attractive in their own right, from seeing a few of Marilyn's and Door's works, I'm sorry but their is in my book absolutely No comparison! Diana was way too heavy and hard which is why, unlike Marilyn, she lots of times was cast as the "fem fetale" in dramatic flims due to her serious Noir like screen persona, and she played it well too. Marilyn, well, she unfortunately was good only for romance comedies, other than "cheesecake" pinups. So Diana was NO Marilyn, because Marilyn just didn't have the dead pan hard tough qualities Diana certainly had. I mean you May as as well try to compare M. Monroe to Lauren Becall, or Barbara Stynwick.

The joke in the pizza rolls commercial, which is from about 1967, is that it’s satirizing a better-known series of ads from that time for Lark cigarettes. In this, a truck drove around with people holding signs that said “Show Us Your Lark Pack!” while the same music played (“The William Tell Overture”). That’s why a man with a cigarette appears at the end, followed by the Lone Ranger and Tonto whose radio and then TV show had used the song first.

  • @fromthesidelines

Originally scheduled for the end of the 1960-'61 season. NBC vetoed the episode because they considered it "too gruesome" to be seen by a "family" audience [at the time, Hitchcock was scheduled on Tuesdays at 8:30pm(et)]. It was eventually seen in syndication.

Plus Diana Dors was one of the top blonde bombshells and I liked her. But my favorite blonde bombshells were Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, Mamie van Doren, Anita Ekberg, Lana Turner among a few others. WOW! Nice! One of the most macabre endings they did. Say, was Ms. Dors in the TZ kinescope episode 22 (i.e. "Room for one more, honey")? I like that episode, very creepy and nightmarish. And I believe De Wilde was in one of the best Thriller episodes (another b&w anthology show, but hosted by Karloff), entitled Pigeons from Hell.

Hitch (who I love, to be clear) crappin' on the commercials like he thinks he's William Burroughs, which...kinda cool, but also...lacks conviction. Thx PF! 👍
