- We have seen Chevys response... And I have Fords also for 57...
Now let's see the colorized version of Plymouths film, Plymouth makes a good case... but I may need to dig into the performance comparison to really verify.
Its Halloween, and Christine was a 58 I know :) but it's essentially the same car :)
Nothing beats a torque flite!
Stephen King's novel proved to be the saving grace (from a preservation standpoint) for the Forward Look's Mopars, especially the 57-58 Plymouths
The cars themselves weren' t really so bad in build quality, the problem was that everything Mopar rusted (in GM's field for example in those?same years Buicks proved very rust prone too, but the other GM cars fared better so rep wasn't so tarnished)
That said: simply MAJESTIC, GORGEOUS LOOKING cars, the 57-58 Plymouths and Dodges 😍
For what it's worth, on a famous videogame they also drive *much better* than anything American until the late 1960s (only the step down Hudsons are as capable in cornering in that videogame)
They do drive much better than anything of the time and this is confirmed by all the 57 magazines... I think the rust issues and leaking hurt them pretty bad. Even on the videos of the times they expected people to buy a new car every two years... After two years in snow/salt these cars were in already in trouble, so they were toast.
What was the game?
Plymouth had all the answers to all your prayers! Better look, better heater, better, power, by thunder FLOOR that plymouth and it would FLY! But where is Plymouth today in 2023.....GONE! DAM SHAME!!!!
well... all US makers have consolidated... Dodge was almost a goner a few years back but was saved
I like the look of the Chevy better. It's a classic design that is beautiful still today.
Ehhh I dunno, you got to love the wider, leaner, lower look! :)
My mom's family had a 1957 Nomad new, yellow with a white top. The Chevrolet is considered one of if not the best looking car of the decade.
Not at the time... Actually the Plymouth won all the awards...
Now I wanna see 57 ford vs the both of these
Yeah I guess wrap it up, Ford version is pretty light on info though i think.
Christine was a '58 Plymouth Fury
The Chevy may have been an older design, but it was better looking, and time has proven it a much better car.
They rushed the 57 cars because they had been spied upon.... Everyone went gung-ho with fins and trim... I mean you see what Chevy did in 58... This 57 car was actually the 58 so it hurt quality... leaking and rust proofing was a big problem.. and Mopars have always had a lower market share (until lately) so these cars were not valued and add onto that big fins went our of fashion real fast... that means most 57 Mopars went to the junk yard fast.
@@autochronicles8667or sadly, to demo derby! 🥺😔😩😭
I love the 57 -58 grills...mean!
No one liked the lower 57 Grill..
😂 I love how scientific those acceleration test were ... "and there it is, Plymouth WINS" 🤣
The Plymouth did win off the line I believe... Although since the Chevy was lighter it would pull on it fast. Top end model vs top end model. The FI Chevy had issues though and everyone removed the FI system.
Sad that the much more attractive Plymouths were of poor quality, in the long run the sales increase hurt them as many of those new customers were one time customers who went to other brands next time. I'm not a fan of the 57 Chevys, they were so much more cluttered looking. The 58 Chevy was way more attractive to me compared to the 57. The Chevy was more mechanically reliable, the infamous Turboglide notwithstanding. Still, on looks and emotion, I would have bought the Plymouth.
Remember the plymouth was rushed to market... So the quality issues were there, but they were able to clean them up pretty quick and made rapid changes to the line. Ford/Chevy had good spies and they had seen the new 57 cars and were scared.
Better braking... that's why old cop cars were Mopar!
The fins were faster!
