I have a 2001 TJ, it’s lifted 5” on 35’s. It’s fun to drive but I’ve had a real axle come out going the interstate, I just slid to a stop on the side of the interstate(I got luck) had that repaired. 2 years later the rear driver side bearing went out. I replace both sides. Now I have it taken down to replace the front hub assemblies. Those 35’s are hell on these Jeeps. Then I see this video, and I think to my self and say I should rip out the 5” lift put a 2” on and run 32” tires all day. I have a winch and recovery tools, my Jeep on 32” tires would probably take me every where I really need to go. Sure would be cheaper then swapping out for chromoly axles and having to regear it as I plan to do. Buddy you have one sharp TJ!
Yup, unless it’s a strictly rock crawling buggy, you don’t need 35’s, 37’s, etc. I daily my TJ, so 33’s are perfect for that and what I do off road. I do need to get sliders, some underbelly protection and especially lockers. I did just put 3” springs in, and I’m finally happy with the stance.
Yep, my 97 Sahara is on 33"s with 4:10 gears, Ox locker up front dana limited slip rear, 1" lift🤭 and runs and ride better than factory with +200k. The 33's actually rides about the same as my 05 LJ R factory stock. I might install 33's on it with the next set of tires but not sure. There's war in my brain on leaving it 100% OEM.
I just love your videos. Your videos are one of the inspirations that fueled my long-time dream to own a TJ, love for outdoors and enjoying the simplicity. And it finally happened, just a few days ago I bought my own TJ! Keep on filming!
@@rustyintheoutdoors It's a blue 2006 4.0L Sport. Gently modified (bigger wheels, lifter suspension), but I'm planning on restoring it closer to the original state. Actually, do you mind sharing what wheels and tires you have on your TJ? They look bigger than stock, but they fit your car perfectly! :)
Love the video be careful pulling the log with the winch like that. the winch is not designed to be used like this. its either pulling or holding a load using the gears. also I would advise you to change the roof rack mounting in the rear from the chassis to the body. They way its attached now will cause stress to front and rear mounting points as you are attaching the body to the frame and with twists it will cause stress.
Yeah, it was a one time thing. I recently got a new front bumper put on with shackle mounts, so I’ll be using that for tugging in the future. As for the roof rack, that’s the way it’s designed. It’s a cheap Smittybilt, so I wasn’t expecting much. I would much prefer to get a Gobi rack.
For one more ride comfort, and two it’s a good habit to get into so you don’t tear up the forest service roads. That’s why all these AWD crossovers have been ruining the dirt roads.

Yeah I agree, here in Alabama it’s mainly red clay mud. My wife would definitely rather pay for 32s over 35s.
you should post a walkaround of your setup. im building my 2 door out and like the look of yours
What a dream. Its so beautiful. I have the same jeep. And i need forest and camp 🌲🌲🌲
