When Parish came out with that if anyone wants him they should be prepared to pay superstar money, it would have been nice for the reporters to have challenged that and asked whether that equally means increasing Guehi's wages to superstar levels to keep him at the club...

It couldn’t be more obvious, the premiership is totally corrupt.
When the takeover happened the top six clubs were stunned that Newcastle were going to be a major force in football.
Panic stations….So meetings were held behind closed doors, with Newcastle representatives not welcome to discuss how they could stop Newcastle from challenging them.
New rules were made up, along with don’t buy any players from Newcastle & don’t sell any of their best players to them unless they are prepared to pay monumental sums of money.
Unsettle Newcastle’s players & club with constant rumourmongering of our best players moving on.
    Games fixed through VAR etc.
Watching Guehi play in the Euro’s, I thought ‘wouldn’t he be a great player to sign’ but to be honest didn’t think we would try. I would love him at Newcastle, but we are being held to ransom, the figures involved now are repulsive 🤮

If we can get Madueke on loan with an option to buy pay the Guehi money. Right wing is the most important transfer. Guehi is class but we have Schar who is class and Kelly and Burn decent with Botman to come back. Otherwise Mbeumo around 40-50mill and a young CB to learn would be perfect 🤞

Nothing against Palace - they have a player they like and want to keep - but the money on the table is already too much of our permitted budget, so I'd wish them good luck and farewell and walk away. If I was looking to spend that amount on a single player I'd expect them to be bringing regular goals or assists to the team in advance of what we already have. We aren't 60mill desperate for a central defender.

I reckon Guehi will be a Newcastle player by end of this window but it might run closer to deadline day than expected. I think Palace know the player wants to go and just a case of holding off till Newcastle pay what they want unless there's any real alternatives being looked at then Palace might take the offer that's on the table because Newcastle haven't got any rival bidders. Palace could end up with an unhappy player and no money if they don't accept.
I personally am not really arsed if Guehi gets signed or not. I think the offer currently is good enough and if they dont get Guehi im sure they'll get someone else pretty decent at that kind of money.

I'd really like Guehi, largely for the sake of having another England international in the squad and obviously he's done well in recent times, but I do wonder if he's actually any better than Malick Thiaw who was supposedly available for around £35m.
The question would be is Guehi £30m better than Thiaw, a player with Champions League experience, and would Newcastle not perhaps be better off banking that £30m difference and pushing the boat out on a right winger.
I fully expect Newcastle to do business on one or two deals before the transfer window ends but I do have a concern about the lack of noise around some very obvious outgoings that should really be happening (Fraser, Lewis, Hayden and perhaps the likes of Almiron and Dubravka)

We have to leave it to Mitchell, but it would be interesting to know Eddie’s priority. My guess is is that his priority is a right winger, but there seems to be no progress there. I think Keith is right. The danger is that Mitchell has vested so much in this that he doesn’t want to lose face by walking away - especially as he has no obvious alternative lined up. As things stand, we have done rather better on transfers when we haven’t had a DOF than when we have ! I’m convinced that Amanda did more behind the scenes than most of us realise !

@@phil5357 We’ve still got two weeks to go. My worry is that we spend big on someone that Eddie doesn’t really want just so Mitchell can show he’s capable of big deals. In my view, it’s the coach’s head on the block if we don’t perform so the DOF has to buy according to what he wants. That worked well with Amanda. We never made a bad move in the market, but this is a new era and, as yet, it’s been underwhelming.
