    Just finished watching this video, and like all your videos really shows how you are truly a Master of painting flowers ‘on the fly’ creating what I call master pieces 🖼

    Hi David, thank you so much for yet another great illustration. A question for you, I would like to able to paint flowers like Henri-Fontin- Latour style. When doing a flower study, do one copy exactly like the masters or copy just to capture the feel of the flowers? Reason being that copying flowers to the exact is hard because the color is “ all over the place”, I would be interested in knowing your take on this. Once again thanks so much for All of your wonderful video!!

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan, I copy the masters technique as close as I can. I try to learn their color and stroke progressions. I have painted Fantin-Latour many times. He has a great technique for flower still lifes.

    You have referred to John Singer Sargent on occasion. I decided to peruse his work, which at 995 paintings is taking a while. Do you happen to have some favorites?

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So many. I used to go down to the National Gallery in Washington to study his works there. Also the Louvre in Paris. Of course Lady Agnew is one of my favorites. The portrait you see behind me in this video is a study I did of his Jacques Barenton. I like his principles of alla prima and try to follow them. Also key concepts he documented such as, make a tone for each step of graduation and no fusion of edges, in other words, blending. :)

    Just stunning! I think my biggest hang up is that I'm afraid of wasting any paint on my brush or palette, so I want to take multiple strokes and I always always always ruin my painting. I'm at beginner status and get frustrated easily.

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have all been there. Got to get past that wasting paint though. You need paint to make the flowers come alive.

    Love, love, love the Carnations. BTW, the perfect flower to give a new mom is a Carnation not a rose; it is easy to pull each petal from a rose showing how frail it is; it is very, very hard to pull a petal from a Carnation symbolizing a mothers love holds on hard for all time; nothing will shred, destroy, pull apart a mothers love; as the Carnation is sturdy (tough), so a mothers love.
