I hate how this specific scene from the film has been outlawed by TH-cam and yet I can see just about any other classic dance scene on here like ones from Singing in the Rain. This is the first time in over a decade I’ve seen the full sequence unedited here on TH-cam. Even though it had to be played alongside a live performance and use the audio from that. Still, it’s wonderful to see whole thing on TH-cam again.
I need to give him credit, his performance was amazing, but I couldn't help it, at the middle of the video I was just looking at the right side of the screen. Fred elegance is hypnotizing.
I have to watch this because youtube shut down the normal one. I think the part that killed it for me is that fred is telling a story about these people in his bit. This guy is dancing to his words and acting out freds lyrics.
It's very nice for you to pay tribute to Fred Astaire, the greatest, most elegant dancer who ever lived. As Mikhail Baryshnikov once said, "Fred Astaire was perfection." He had the most beautiful balletic lines and made the most difficult choreography look effortless. I think Fred Astaire invented the expression "swag." He had a panache all his own. As soon as he stepped out on a dance floor, he owned it. He wasn't a classically handsome man but he demanded your attention, you couldn't take your eyes off him. He exuded an effortless grace and elegance. His love of dancing was infectious. Astaire was an absolute genius. I started studying at the age of 6 with the Royal Ballet and danced for the next 25 years. I am in my late 60's now and love to watch Astaire's dance clips, as well as those of Kelly, Nureyev, Baryshnikov, Gelsey Kirkland, Natalia Makarova and other greats. Thank you for your Astaire tribute and keep dancing!
Ignore the small-minded nit-pickers, of COURSE you can't perfectly match Fred, no one could, but you did a damned good job and I think he would have been pleased and flattered. Then, of course, he would tell you what was wrong, but he did that with everybody. Definitely a hard act to follow, but nice work.
Great job. Amazing job. Wonderful job. Forget all the rude commenters, you were absolutely amazing. I consider Puttin on the Ritz the greatest solo dance scene in any movie or film ever and you recreated it and it looked amazing. My hat's off to you.
You're right, Arlin. Fred seems to defy gravity as opposed to many dancers (this one is excellent) who look more athletic ... but this guy also contended with a typical dance surface (Marley; not always the best choice for tap) while Fred had a hard floor and microphones. He, the tribute dancer, had to work harder for the sound which made him look, perhaps, a little heavy-footed ... and caned. It's stage vs screen.
Props for his performance he did a damn good job. I mean he's doing a Fred Astaire number BUT OMG Fred was just OUTSTANDING and mesmerizing and my eyes just kept going to his performance. Such perfection, his steps so sharp and clean just amazing !!!!! Great tribute, Bravo !!!!
« Putting on the Ritz » has always been one of my favorite songs... since the very first I saw him dancing. And this tune ! But just like the Beatles vs Rolling Stone , Charly Chaplin vs Buster Keaton, there was one between Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Sad but true. Fred Astaire won my heart since the beginning -and even though this tribute dance has to be celebrated, you are closer to Gene Kelly . PS: I know this video is 8 years old... but I sincerely hope you are fine 🧡✨
Good job!! Not gonna lie I had to watch the video about three times to stay focused on you cos Fred was distracting my eye and it making it wander but I got there in the end. Fair play to you feller that was done well.
You are honestly one of the best tap dancers I have ever seen. I could only dream to be even close to your standard. How did u learn the exact choreography?
The main problem is, left guy is lowering his center of gravity by bending his knees too much. Fred is holding his center of gravity high, so his movement look light as air.
Very nice. Wish more lighting on you. Also, try to lift up your weight onto the balls instead of your heels. Astaire was very light on his feet. Floating except when to accent. Gene Kelly was more low to the ground, heavy, athletic like you emphasizing heels. My style is like that as well. But bravo for you sharing this. Would love to see update with better lighting. Not like you have lights guy at MGM able to follow you.
Fred makes it effortless would be my only observation. Fred’s back stepping is almost dainty……like a tippy toeing. The novice needs to perfect the back step tapping and make his work look effortless. This guy shows up way more builds than Astaire and he has big feet. The spats seen to extenuate his large feet.
I'm amazed at both your talent and hard work, and Fred's ability to make his choreography look so easy and effortless.

@ Arlin Shut up.
In my opinion, Fred had it and I couldn't take my eyes off of him!!!
Nobody floats and defies gravity like Fred Astaire.
right, it's a good attempt and ambitious, but you can't hold up to that. the tradition just died in the 60's.

I agree 💯

Then, of course, he would tell you what was wrong, and say, "Let's go again" 20 or 30 times.
This guy did a pretty damn good job. No will ever match Astaire.
Gratidão por trazer de volta este momento.
Who else looks at the imitation of the performance than the original actor itself ? he did such an amazing job
This was awesome. My hat is off to the guy on the left. Bravo.

Incredible how this clip got uploaded without being chopped to bits. Gutsy to dance next to an icon & choose a groundbreaking routine.
I must've watched this about 50 times in the last 3 days. I am hooked.
Nobody can touch his sharp magnetic style . . . . Nobody!!

I can already see him being all happy in heaven, that we still appreciate his talent even today!
Your performance is flawless!
Outstanding original performance and outstanding tribute. If only the damn audience would show some respect and keep quiet.
It’s a lost art form dancing singing and tap. Thanks Fred and Gene for setting the bar so high
Pure fire. Good job!
Do you know how many people on the planet have tried what you just did? and, do you know how many failed?
My friend, you are a star
Omg!!! You did it!!!!!!! Idk what to say!!!! God bless you
This made me smile. Great work!

Woooooowwww dude congratulationssss, just great
That was awesome.
Well done! Bootiful job!
Pretty ballsy of him to do a Fred Astaire routine - and he nailed it!

Amazing!!!!! This made me tear up! (not sure why, but art will do that. This is an amazing artist paying tribute to an epic artist!) Bloody well done!
Good job!! Not gonna lie I had to watch the video about three times to stay focused on you cos Fred was distracting my eye and it making it wander but I got there in the end. Fair play to you feller that was done well.
Pretty awesome! Good peeping job
I suspect that Fred Astaire would be flattered. Great job, Kyle!
mis respetos para el coregrafo y el bailarin, quedo increible el homenaje a uno de los mejores
Wow you're really good!!!
Bravo! Bravissimo!
Absolutely BRILLIANT recreation! Nay-sayers are clinically insane.
Amazing job!
You did Fred proud, young man!
Dude, u did an awesome job! No one can ever come close to the great Fred Astaire, but u came pretty close
Wow! It's definitely awesome!
The picture of talent and elegance
this was amazing!
U made my day! :)
This is great!! Congratulations on mastering this routine!!
Amazing!!!!
Great job! A little heavy on your feet; but great job. Fred was just really lite on his feet. 😊
GENIAL , AMAZING !!!
It's great to see young people appreciating Fred Aistaire and keep his intelligence alive
Мой папа обожал эту тему. Забыл название песни, но сегодня нашел ее и бесконечно рад окунуться в свое детство (впервые слушал ее где-то в 80х годах)
Congratulations!!!
Now if you can just get the darn cane to jump up into your hand the way he does. :)
Because he was using string dip into jki fuel
Fred said they used compressed air in the floor.
Cane jump is at 3:09
Here's how Astaire ACTUALLY did it, from an interview when he was 75 years old.
th-cam.com/video/GJXJg07CVrU/w-d-xo.html
legendary....😌
Steve Martin did a fine tribute in Pennies From Heaven. He became a good hoofer.
Good lordy, how many HOURS of studying this clip had to go into this routine?? O_O Bravo, sir.
Very good job :)
parlevous1 u
amazing tribute, considering you are tributing the greatest right there
When my mother was in the hospital back in 1971 in New Haven, Connecticut, Fred Astaire was a patient there a couple of rooms from my mother
Very good! Wow!
You are honestly one of the best tap dancers I have ever seen. I could only dream to be even close to your standard. How did u learn the exact choreography?
Not sure who this lad is, but GOOD JOB!!!!
Taco will never even come close to Fred Astaire
Who could @@micheletravis9057 ?
Great dancing and tune. Not the original words however when it was written.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!
Bravissimo!!
Фред Астер самый лучший и его никто не перетанцует. Браво Фреду Астеру
My heart stopped when he beat that poor vintage parquet 🥲
Epic!
good job, Fred performance was greater but it was recorded on studio yours look like on stage so amazing
I cannot hear this song without remembering the late great Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle both doing it in Young Frankenstein
Me too 😆
That was amazing!! great job! I want to get my son into tap dance as well. You're very talented!
0:44 anyone else get jump scared? 😂 but nice work Kyle! Keep up the great work!
Osea yo no lo veía en la infancia pero algunos si ojalá pudiera ser como ellos :'(
The main problem is, left guy is lowering his center of gravity by bending his knees too much.
Fred is holding his center of gravity high, so his movement look light as air.
Give him a break please
Wonderful job! I cannot even begin to guess how long it took you to perfect that!
Awesome. Even though you still got owned by the Cane Trick.
Incrível!
Astounding Fred Astaire
I think even he’ll be happy with the tribute…
Good job

You have to allow for people having different centers of gravity and limb lengths. He's built more like Kelly.
very good
So awesome!
🔥🔥🔥👍
FRED ASTAIRE IS THE KING!!!! NO ONE CAN DANCE LIKE HIM.
AAAAAHHHHH! He does it again at 3:10!! Nothing makes sense anymore...
soooo daaammmm coool T___T
Don't bother to look at the left side of the screen. the real talent and treat is on the right!
Magnífico.

Where is the clip on the left from? Btw they're an amazing tap dancer to be able to almost match up to Astaire's level of dancing!!
Audrey Yong It was taken from a show that I did last year, "Tappin' 'n Time"... Thank you so very much as well😊
Taco has the best version.
How'd they get the cane to fly up?
This had 666 likes when I found it, spooky. In fact I'm taking my like back to keep it at 666.
