Who the neck wears gloves to prep meals for THEMSELVES? Sometimes people love to just type comments that make THEMSELVES feel "all mighty", but more than likely they are criticizing for how you're doing something when they have perhaps not even grown kale to freeze. Just my thoughts, but I always amazed that's some of the stuff I read in the comments section. Last year I dehydrated kale for soup and I was not real thrilled with the results so I ended up grinding it into a powder and I use that kale for throwing into smoothies. I think that this method of freezing along with blanching is probably going to give the best results. I was really into dehydrating last year and for many things I like it better but kale I definitely like the blanch and freeze combination to get better results. Always enjoy your videos thank you for taking the time to post them oh, they're always helpful. Thanks again!

Thanks. Just figured that I would address all the comments I have seen about not wearing gloves and using my hands to move and mix things when freezing and canning. Like you say I see comments from some that only eat food from a can. Never tried dehydrating it but we make kale chips in the oven that are really good. The zucchini that I dehydrated last year is our favorite snack but everything else gets ground into powder for seasoning. Thanks for watching.

I just found this channel this morning and I'm loving it!!
I've dehydrated kale and didn't care for it. Ended up powdering it. I do like kale chips in the oven and I blanch and freeze mine, as well.
P.s. ignore the "no glove haters". Who the heck wears gloves to prepare their OWN food!! Fear at it's finest.
    Be blessed.,😊🌹

I live in Florida and have a big garden. I love kale I freeze it without blanching. I think when you blanched kill enzymes and damage the vitamins. My thoughts!! Great job with that garden. Love it!!!

I always blanch them as well. You can use a ladle and press the kale in there. This way you get rid of the water and have it in portions. I just freeze the portions on a tray and later put them in freezer bags.

I have this little tool for this - basically just a hole in a piece of plastic - just stick the kale leaf through the hole, then yank it through. Stalk comes out clean!

  • @shirleyk623

Definitely blanch your kale. I didn't one year and the leaves got tough and leathery when cooked. Also, don't bother with cheap shrink bags. They don't seal well and get holes in the bags if they rub together with other items in the freezer. I also dislike the wait time when sealing the bags. I hope to find a machine that doesn't have that annoying feature.

Things like kale don't stat well without blanching. From the comments many are ready to move up from the foodsavers that are slow and finicky. Thanks for watching.

Thanks. I figured they must work at a restaurant and maybe not wash after flushing. I grew up poor and if I dropped my cookie on the floor mom would say just pick it up and blow it off. Then tell me the old saying that I would eat a dump truck full of dirt before I die. I just wash good before starting. Thanks for watching.

We have a commercial grade sealer made by cabelas it seems to work well for us but we don’t use it often, so I can’t remember if you have to wait between sealing. I would have loved to see her recipe for kale soup? I planted the curly kale so I need recipes for it.

This past February I bought a VacMaster Pro360 external sealer with a 16 inch seal bar. Buy directly from the company, sign up with your email for an additional 10% discount. $279.00 - $27.10 = $251.10. The price is cheaper than amazon & other sites. Their bags & rolls are high quality & there has been no freezer burn on any of the meat I froze in February. There's no waiting time between sealing. It also came with a hose attachment. I love it so far!

This is awesome, our kale seems to die here in our South Florida summers. We are down to just a couple of plants barely alive now. Will try this when its thriving again.

Wet greens can be spun in a pillow case. It works great and no spinner to store in your kitchen. Also, the Cabela's brand commercial sealer (www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Commercial-Grade-Vacuum-Sealer/1387525.uts) is the best I have found. The one I have does not have the storage in the back but is otherwise the same. We use it in fish camp every year and at home. Thanks for sharing.

I've done quick soak of 10% vinegar water and then rinsed and froze it for my smoothies. I did that because I didn't grow it myself and it worked out fine. Kale is pretty sweet when eaten fresh and my strong blender makes short work of it and other things added. Tastes good, just looks like you're drinking mud.

Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations , lol, helps that there is half a frozen banana and a teaspoon of good dutched cocoa among other ingredients, protein powder etc., but the kale isn't that strong of a flavor when it's raw. It just isn't pretty though and the blender has to be one of those super strong ones. I even throw a bit of cinnamon stick in and it pulverizes it to nothing. I'm a nurse and it gives me energy all morning + in case I don't get a lunch at least I've had a good breakfast.

You don't have to preboil Kale to freeze, just clean, chop and freeze.
