"And now the Yankee fans are on their feet...a big, big out for Dale Murray...no balls, two strikes, two outs, nobody on, top of the ninth, Yankees lead 4 to 3...here's the set, the pitch...ground ball...base hit! And here comes Billy Martin...Holy cow, you think Billy's gonna bring the Goose in to pitch to Brett?" -- Phil Rizzuto radio call, July 24, 1983

Yes, Yankees manager Billy Martin did bring in Goose Gossage to pitch to George Brett on that fateful day -- July 24, 1983. The rest is baseball legend. Here's the official Yankees radio broadcast of the last inning of that famous day in baseball lore, featuring the radio-booth team of Phil Rizzuto and Bill White, edited by an unknown audio engineer for re-broadcast on August 18, 1983, the day the Yankees and Royals resumed play to decide the final outcome of what became known as "The Pine Tar Game."
    TECHNICAL NOTES:
I recorded this AM radio broadcast over the air on August 18, 1983, the date of the resumption and finale of the Pine Tar Game. I did not know at the time that the Yankees would air an edited clip of the original broadcast of July 24 before resumption of the game. I converted the original analogue cassette recording to digital format in 2002. I hope baseball fans everywhere -- whether they are Yankees-lovers or Yankees-haters -- will enjoy this little bit of radio-baseball history.
