For me the best sound that I get from this mic is in USB and when it is set to Standard (Deep and Mid). After recording in that mode all I do is give it a slight 3dB Treble boost in Post and it sounds very nice. I have been in contact with the team at Maono and they are in the process of upgrading their Maono Link PreAmp software by adding more EQ fine tuning options which the software needs badly. All in all its a really nice mic and I do like how it also behaves in XLR mode and I think if I purchase an EQ software plugin I can make that mic sound amazing on the front end so I do not have to do any shaping "afterword". This mic is a keeper and has such potential. My workhorse for my XLR and Podcast is the EV RE20 but I wanted the PD400X for my USB option and the Maono PD400X Delivers! When that USB PreAmp Software gets the update this thing will be even better!
HOLY CRAP THE XLR SOUNDS LIKE A SM7B I can definitely hear the sound being waaaaaaaay better. USB C sounds like SM7B with a thick filter on top that muffles the voice a little.
Does the dual output (USB & XLR) of PD400X operate alternately or can they be used simultaneously? If they can be used simultaneously, is it possible as a backup in case one of them encounters an issue? How about PD200X? Can the USB & XLR be used simultaneously? I appreciated for your help
Hello Have you ever tried to connect this one to the *Maonocaster E2* ? Coz when i try to connect it into the souncard it doesn’t Light up its just like a plain mic
You would need an XLR interface or a portable recorder with an XLR input which is what I used. I have a zoom H4N handy recorder which I connected it to.
Did you see my latest video of the K688 guessing you did, I did a little test comparing them side by side. The sound to be is nicer on the Maono and the build quality is a lot better plus it has a desk stand. Both are good just depends on your budget.
@@MattRobb thanks for the reply, I have been considering getting the PD400x anyway, as you have the option to buy it with a boom arm, and it just sounds like a better mic overall.
very late response but once your voice reaches above the shown volume amount, it will compress your voice to keep you from sounding too quiet or too loud, essentially keeping you at the same volume level depending on your whispers and shouts
Can someone tell me which good and cheap interface can should i get? I got one for 70 euro and mics even mv7 hears trash somehowe even with filter.... Only maono was okay. I don't understand interfaces xD
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh i get it now... They changed their Cable! Its no longer that yellow one. i was like BRO THATS A SICK CABLE NGL cause I loved the color but now they put a black one that has a USB C and USB A end (it can snap on to change it depending on what ports you have on your Laptop or Desktop) wow... Idk. I'd pay for that yellow one lol
@@MattRobb Yeah, after seeing how the XLR performed, I was like "I know I bought this Mic to be a Budget SM7B working off USB C for when I finally do get the SM7B but.... But I NEED IT ON XLR RIGHT NOW" haha. I'm trying to find a good deal on an XLR Elgato interface. I'm only going to be using this for Streaming
If you get a hiss, it can be attributed to the USB cable still being connected while the XLR cable is hooked up. Remove the USB cable and the hiss will vanish. If it remains then it is something that needs to be attended to with Maono.

Just seeing this video. Do you know if they did an Upgrade link Pre-Amp software for better Eq on the USB-C? Thanks so much.
XLR definitely sounds better, but USB-C sounds very usable and tolerable, more so than Shure's MV7's USB input.
this is due to the interface's preamp and added warmth when used as XLR🥳
Thanks for the review, Bro 👍🏽! New Sub ✨️
HOLY CRAP THE XLR SOUNDS LIKE A SM7B I can definitely hear the sound being waaaaaaaay better. USB C sounds like SM7B with a thick filter on top that muffles the voice a little.
Will it be good for singing or not?
XLR is more bold. With the Shure MV7 the USB is wayyyy worse and it clips way too easy on that more expensive mic.
The plosives are bad without a pop filter. I hope there's a pop filter for this mic cause it sounds really good
There is a pop filter that comes with the mic
What do I need If I want to use the mic with XLR?
An XLR interface or portable recorder
Wow, thank you for the fast response! @@MattRobb

This of Fifine K688?
XLR one seems having more noise. USB one was free of that noise.
It might be my interference but I’m not sure
Your gain is too high when you are in xlr@@MattRobb
You can’t control the gain when using XLR it seems as the gain knob only works when connect to usb c
The gain knob on your audio interface, with this mic, you should use the gain at 90% approximately, not 100%@@MattRobb
@Tchongyy mines at 80% on my interface 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Rob, can i use this unit for my zoom meetings?
I mean yes you certainly could, it may be a bit overkill but it’s definitely nice quality you wouldn’t be disappointed
Nice review! Where can we find that cool orange USB cable? Thank you!
I got it with a battery pack I review on the channel

sounds really good, do you recommend it together with the maono ame 2 interface?
I haven’t tried the interface so I can’t really comment but it’s my favorite microphone still till this date.
@@MattRobbi want to know if you can hook the maono ame 2 interface up to an iphone for audio livestreaming
Hello Have you ever tried to connect this one to the *Maonocaster E2* ? Coz when i try to connect it into the souncard it doesn’t Light up its just like a plain mic
I believe you are using the xlr cable. You can only use the advance features in usb-c mode.
XLR is nice
What do you need to hook up/use XLR?
You would need an XLR interface or a portable recorder with an XLR input which is what I used. I have a zoom H4N handy recorder which I connected it to.
Would you consider this over the fifine k688? Trying to figure out which mic to choose for gaming, podcasting, and some music on the side.

@@MattRobb BETWEEN MAONO PD400X VS SHURE MV7 WHICH ONE IS BETTER?
@@acumen1Moano is way better in quality and price both
on usb c the background noise way down
What do you think is better, the FiFine K688 or this Maono PD400X?
The PD400X has more bass and it’s richer whereas the K688 is more neutral. I would say the K688 has more static noise slightly in the background
@@MattRobb thanks for the reply, I have been considering getting the PD400x anyway, as you have the option to buy it with a boom arm, and it just sounds like a better mic overall.
The materials and build is definitely better on the PD400X

yes
please explain the maximum slider in the compressor settings

Yes you can record both to xlr and usb c at the same time

I legit got it for $20 on Amazon

I think the XLR is better🤣
I mean duh?
PODMIC OR THIS ONE?
Just did a new video comparing this mic with a new one
i think the orange accents and logo make this very ugly but it sounds amazing
Sounds same
XLR has better sound DB with sharper audio. USBC is highly tolerable nevertheless.

Xlr has a hiss

There's hissing with the xlr. Is that caused by the mic or your audio interface? Or maybe the xlr cable used?
I think it’s because I had both usb c and XLR connected at the same time so there was maybe some feedback because of the power input into the mic
It is due to the USB AND XLR being connected simultaneously.
