Yes, first greek translation of Old Testament, i.e Kyrie was the translation of Yahweh. It looks like it was picked up into Latin lexicon then went with the roman advancement of christianity which then obviously spread to Britain and had a large impact. This would be why it's vey old in British religious cultures, also. Admittedly, Kyrie does makes a lovely name :)
