Former cruiser rider here. When considering purchasing an AT I too hated the fact cruise was not offered. DCT was the determining factor that motivated my purchase. I’m overwhelmed by the AT’s level of comfort that for me, rivaled that of most of the baggers I’ve owned. What was most surprising to me was that riding without cruise brought back some fun to riding. Whether it was caused solely by the absence of cruise or because of the increase in the moment to moment involvement required of me, the DCT or a combination of them all. In the end, on a near 300 mile one way on road trip I never missed not having cruise. Oh ya, I’m 72 years old.
Oh i agree to all of that, sorry for the delay, I thought I had replied it didnt go through. I love the riding style of this bike. Like you I have risen a lot of different bikes, but this one is just plain fun and comfortable. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week and a happy new year. dale
It seems like everything is going this way these days... people are selling incomplete packages in everything from video games to movies to motorcycles. You buy the whole thing, then realize later there's more you need to get the full experience. Companies seem to be focusing on the "Sale after the sale" with downloadable content, "extra features" in movies, and parts that are intentionally poor on motorcycles so you need to go aftermarket. Good points man!!
Yes sir, I so agree and I do believe a lot of the things mentioned here people would want to go to their favorite after market places for the preferred brand x or what ever, really the two biggies for me one bing the 12 volt charger, and the cruise control could be beneficial. hehehe the others I had to just addd to it. I will be doing a video the 10 things I love about the Honda africa twin soon as well. Thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time to watch and comment. I truly appreciate you. Thanks again my friend and Have a blessed week.
Oh you want the #1 burger meal? That's $4.99 for the patty, $1 for the bun, $0.50 each for lettuce, tomato and onion... $0.85 for cheese. Fries are sold separately and refills require a subscription!
Good news! • Did you know that there is someone who died for you on a cross so that you could achieve eternal life? • Did you know that you only have two paths after death? The Bible tells us in the book of Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." and in Ecclesiastes 7:20 it says "Certainly there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins." This tells us that all human beings are sinners (we all break God's law), therefore, we deserve God's punishment for going against his word, but the good news is that through his son Jesus Christ we can obtain forgiveness of sins: John 3:16 [16] For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but may have eternal life. Romans 5: 8 [8] But God shows his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus Christ the only begotten son of God died on a cross for all humanity more than 2000 years ago, rising on the third day and paying a high price for our sins, since in the Bible it tells us that there is a heaven after death but also There is a hell and the kingdom of heaven can only be reached through Jesus Christ through the forgiveness of sins, it is not through any virgin or any saint, or by any other means, there is only one mediator between God and men, so if you want to go to heaven you have to repent of your sins (fornication, lies, etc.) and follow Jesus (obey biblical commandments). Christ is coming soon! Judgments come to earth (asteroids, earthquakes, etc.), seek God who has great things for your life. God bless you. Prayer: Prayer: dear Lord Jesus forgive my sins, I know that I am a sinner and I need your forgiveness, enter my heart and guide me towards eternal life, thank you. Amen

I know this is an older video but all of these things you have mentioned are to increase money flow.. things you need but they want to charge us for them separately.. they can charge way more by doing that.. thanks.
Here in Australia, MC Cruise make a brilliant electronic cruise control system for about AU$1000. I fitted one to my Tiger 800xc in about 4hrs. The instructions are easy to read and follow.
Oh wow, that sounds like a good deal. Thank you for sharing that with us, I will check them out and see if they make something for my bike. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Off the subject matter, but like to hear your take on how you can be satisfied with the KLR when you used to have the Africa Twin. I've never had the Honda, but I'd guess it's considerably more of a bike than the KLR.
That is actually a wonderful question, if you dont mind, I may well do a video answer on that one, I think it would interest others as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I will post this one up realavitely soon for me and will make a video on this answer. Again, thank you and have a blessed week. Dale
You make some very good points here which makes me lean even more toward the KTM 1090. The half crash bars it includes along with the stronger engine, stiffer suspension and more engine/drivetrain options had me leaning at first but the smaller details highlighted here helped, thank you!
Yeah the KTM is a beast of a bike compared to this one, I would ask if you are going to be on more back roads and or spend more time on the dirt trails. With us living in the in the center of the state, I have to ride for a while to ever really get into any dirt roads, I do like how comfortable my bike is for the road travels, but the KTM would make for a much better off road bike since that is what KTM was designed to do. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and keep us posted on what you get, sorry for the delay been busy with work. Thanks again, Dale
Heartland Dual Sport I'm on the NW side of Denver, CO so the mountains (and dirt roads) are within an hour on paved roads, though I may ride further on the pavement with a proper adventure bike versus my semi-converted WR450F with it's abysmal 2 gallon tank! At the moment any adventure type ride is planned by plotting gas stations at 50 mile increments. Now with a proper adventure bike I'll likely be on pavement 40% of the time with the rest being fire roads or OHV trails which leans me toward the KTM. That and I've been riding off road (and on) since I was 6 (over 25 years) so I can get rather aggressive and want a bike that will hold up to the punishment I may or may not put it through! My gripe is the cost... $15k is prohibitive especially considering all the doo-dads I'd want to put on it. At this point I'm waiting and signed up for any news on the 790 as it'll be more affordable (hopefully!), lighter and still have more than enough power to blow speed limits away on the road and rip wheelies on the dirt!
Oh wow, what a wonderful place to live, right in the heart of some of the most beautiful scenery in America, Good for you my friend, I would love to live up that way sometime. Yes sir, I get it, the 15, is a lot of money, a lot of money on a bike, so that part I understand. I have a friend, in fact the guy who did my suspension on this bike, His name is Mike, he had the 690 I think is what it was, he loved it for the offload trails, but he said it was very light on the highways, winds always blowing from one direction or the other here in Oklahoma so he said it would get a little sketchy on long hauls on the black top. He also mentioned since it was so light and had more HP than the Honda, it would loop out really easy if you got yourself in a jam and wasn't paying attention. I only say that since you mentioned the smaller KTM with that much HP, be careful my friend. I would love to have one make no mistake on that, but that is something to think about as well. The Honda has done well by me and the maintenance schedule alone was a good selling point for me. Thanks again, and keep us posted on what you decide. My buddy Mike is a Trials Guy, he is a very skilled rider and he said the smaller KTM was a little sketchy on some of the stuff do to the fact it had so much HP, he traded it in and went with the Tiger. Oddly enough the 5 things I mention in this video all come stock on the Tiger , that was the main reason I did this video. hehehe. Same money and the Tiger XCX comes with this stuff I mention in this video. Honda is a hair cheaper now that the new has worn off, but I still think a power socket should come with it hehehe. Thanks again, Dale
Oh man, sorry for the delay in reply, I am glad you got to ride one, they are a really fun bike. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week. Keep us posted on what you get. Dale
thats cool . i ended up and bought a africa twin 2017 crf1000la. its pretty cool. no extras but it has the power to keep one on his toes.lol big A T . hope your week is a blessed one also. clark
@@everettanderson1000 That is awesome my friend. You will love that bike. They do have plenty of power. My longest day in the saddle was a 1200 mile trip from east Tenn, back to my home. That was after three days of trail riding. It is a good bike will get you there and home, reliable. Good choice my friend. Thanks again for taking the time to watch comment and share your new ride with us. Thanks again. Dale
not a prob. i do enjoy the bike. i work graveyard shift. and it has been raining here all night in ark. but its tappered off. thats wild what you said. ive been wondering how long i could sit on that seat. cause my bro and his fam live in irwin tenn and ive been looking forward to seeing them its been over ten years since last we had a reunion. thanks again clark
I just picked up a new 2018 Africa Twin Adventure Sports & am really enjoying all the upgrades like heated grips, throttle by wire, taller windscreen. Putting new Shinkos 804/805 tires on next week for desert off road riding. 😀 300 miles on it now, it is sweet! Still no cruise control and no self canceling blinkers but I don’t need those, it’s a dual sport bike, on road 53 mpg so far. I like the tube type rims, I can change my own tires in the Bush or patch a tube. I waited for the Adventure Sports, and will add the full crash bars from AltRider, no problem. Got a great deal from dealership, $1000 rebate end of February deal and out the door deal! Enjoy your bike! Love mine!
I am very glad you got it my friend, They are awesome bikes and I loved mine. I am currently in between bikes, I will more than likely go back to a smaller bike, But I traveled all over rat place on this one and it was the bomb. This video started out because I had a friend who worked at a KTM dealer and he was always trashing my bike so I did this video for him. I actually love the bike and the majority, well everything I mention in this video comes stock on the Tigere XCX for roughly the same price. But i still wouldn't have traded the bike for a XCX, I think they are great bikes as well. but I had this one specked out the way I wanted it. I sold mine this past year and my buddy who bought it from me crashed it. Broke his leg pretty bad, but the alt rider crash bars saved it, they didn't sadly even scratch much less bend or let the bike get damaged in anyway, snapped his leg when he fell. I will probably go back with a smaller dual sport, like my DRZ i had before. We have a little place in the woods we spend dos to of our time now, since i Bought the wife a 4 wheeler and a side by side, we never had time to ride the AT, so it got sold. But we still love the motorcycles, I would imagine I will have another bike by summer and start doing more Dual Sport videos. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a ton of fun on yours. I will say this, when I was riding back home from Tenn last summer, It was a 1250 mile trip I did in a day, I wish I had cruise control that day just to let my head have a break for a minute or two but 99% of the time I would never have used it anyhow. SO it definitely wasn't something that would make or break the deal for me. Keep us posted on your bike and travels and have a blessed weekend my friend. Dale
heheh, I know right, but I did see you riding with Misty and Jay, How awesome is that, I love it there, maybe just maybe one day I can move there. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
+vac0002 yes sir. I enjoyed making this one. Because as you know I love the bike but it is fun to think of ways it could be improved. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I have enjoyed watching your video this morning. As you know, I have been "looking" at bikes, so I knew you were not alone on a couple of these things. When you said the 2 C's and didn't mention the center stand I was surprised...ahhh, but added the bonus. I think it is a great bike and wish I had it parked in my garage!! Be safe my friend!
Excellent, I am glad you enjoyed it this morning my friend. I figured for the folks who are looking at getting this bike may know about some of them, but thought it would be fun to do a video on what my thoughts are on it. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks for the review, so i think is nothing you can't fix within one day to adjust it personaly.; 12v socket, i don't need, i have an SW-motech 12v tankbag, footpegs simply to fix, cruisecontrol i don't need, tyres , buy new ones. :-), and so on... no major things. Perfect. ONE thing I Hate about it is the possition of the battery. That's one thing to hate when put some cables on it 🤔.
Oh I agree, this video was actually done for fun, I love this bike. Most of the things that mentioned come standard on the triumph XCX.. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale
I know this video is a little old but its still very helpful 👍🏻 What are your thoughts on the 790 adv R? It seems to solve every single problem you have with the Africa twin for around the same price brand new.
Yes sir. The video was basically was done as a spoof for a friend of mine who Hates Honda. But with all the things mentioned. The XCX comes with all the things I mentioned for about the same money. I can’t say I have done enough research on the bike you mention. But it sounds like a great bike. What little I do know about it. Looks pretty sweet. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale
Great review for those considering the AT and looking for an unbiased review. All of them I believe are related to cost savings - Honda make a wicked awesome machine and are surely doing so at a profit. All 5 of your points are spot on and certainly shouldn't be deal breakers for what this machine offers even at the MSRP. Personally, I've done aftermarket pegs, crash protection, 12V accessory plug (local Honda dealer provided great $20 option, not factory, self installed), throttle lock, and will do tires in the spring. So, agree fully with your 5 hates - and enjoyed the process of picking out how I wanted to finally kit my bike out...though I agree it sure would have been nice to have it all on there to start with! Thanks for the video.
+Sean Steede thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I really do love the bike and will be doing a 10 things I love about it soon. Just running behind as usual. I agree. It's fun to get a new bike and do the personal touches anyway. Fun stuff. Again thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.
First thing I did was replace the pegs, I will be adding an Atlas throttle stabilizer soon, I agree the tires aren't great but honestly though I ride quite a bit off road and the only terrain that scares me is slick mud but I can tackle anything else with confidence, granted as soon as I can afford it I will be replacing them.
I agree, the foot pegs are a hair small for ADV bike. I really loved this bike and basically compared the things that come stock on the Tiger XCX over the Honda twin, for the same price. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and sorry for the long delay in reply, t his one got stuck in space somehow. Thanks again and have a blessed week. Dale
I thought the pegs were going to be a flaw as I have size 13 boots but it really hasn't been a problem so far. Those tyres wore out fast enough anyway, I had had previous experience with the Dunlops and they were changed out for some TK70 Contis.
I agree, this video was for fun for a frined who at the time had a KTM, and he was always messing with me. heheh, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, and I hope you have a blessed week and a happy new year. PS sorry for the delay in replying this one got lost in the batch somehow? dale
I was bummed to see the Africa Twin did not include cruise control. I think it's one of the most sought after upgrades that the market will need to transition towards eventually. It's as if they intended for off-road use primarily, but that then again begs why on the tires that come stock. Great stuff, and good to see you stopping by my hometown there at the end. : )
+Oni yes sir. I agree. I have heard rumor it will be on 2017 but haven't seen it on the description of the specs on the Honda website. I hope they add it and the 12 volt charger. That would been huge perk. But either way. I love the bike and the 10 things I love about the bike video will be out soon as well. Yes sir. Tires are for long distance rides on pavement. Hence the need for cruise control. Hehhehe. Thank you so much for watching and commenting my friend and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
spot on , but for me the most important things that should be addressed is the tyres, the pegs and the centre stand. Not sure if you have seen the rusting spoke issue but it's been happening for most AT under 600 miles.
Thank you sir, Yes sir, I have not seen or noticed the rusting issue on the spokes, Interesting I will do some looking and see what I can find out about the as well. Thank you for taking the time to watch our video and commenting on it as well. Thanks again and have a blessed week my friend.
The lack of essentials is the way the companies are ripping us off more money. IMO you are right in your observations. Center stand particularly is a must.
I have had 5 bikes. My current one has cruise control and I would hate to have a bike without it now. It makes such a difference for comfort and circulation in your hand and wrist. Adventure bikes are made to go off-road. They all should have crash protection standard. I also agree that 120 bucks an hour is very steep for adding things that should be standard. There is a difference between paying a fair rate and paying through the nose. Good video. Nice bike.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I apologize for the delay, been working non stop for a while and I am catching my breath at the the minute. hehehe. Yes sir I agree, cruise would in so many ways a huge benefit. I have had so many people argue that point with me since making this video, but for me I have to ride a long way to get to dirt and cruise would be a huge perk. Yes, I agree, thank you so much for your kind words and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
+CRF Jim oh yeah. I know a few guys who have them and love them. Can't go wrong with hardly any of them anymore. They all seam to be making great bikes. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment my friend. I appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I hear ya, I think they do make some trade-offs to maintain a competitive price. I've also thought about some of the things they didn't include out of the factory that would have been so easy to do but when you add it all up you end up with another 1 to 2000 on the price tag. My friend installed the heated grips and printed out a 20 page installation manual to do the job! Yeah, cruise control is nice, I bought the Go Cruise throttle lock and like it a lot because I have pretty bad carpel tunnel.
Yes sir, I agree, some of these may make it more expensive, but more than anything, I love the bike so coming up with 5 things I hate took some work hehehe. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I agree about the cruise control. The fact that the bike is ride by wire actually makes it easier to make a cruise control. If you are lucky, someone (like tuneboy in australia, the people who make a cruise control as an ECU upgrade and the cruise control on my ducati multistrada) will make a cruise control for the africa twin. After all it is only takes a couple of hundred lines of code to do.
I hear rumor someone has made one for the Honda AT as well, but it is very expensive and I don't have the budget to try one out, I will get a throttle lock one day Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. It has been interesting to see all the comments this video has generated. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale.
Good points, HDS. I guess it's to keep the cost down, and then let the consumer pick and choose what they want. Still a terrific bike that you have. Be safe my friend.
Oh I agree, it does make for a fun video though, and to be honest, I knew all the things mentioned when I bought the bike, and I agree some of the things people will want their own input and choices to as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Hi there, nice video. Let me give you a view from the other side of the ocean. I agree on 3 of your points. 1) Charger - The original one is outrageously expensive and not practical I mounted a dual USB charger connected to the battery. Under the seat I have a plug where I can disconnect the charger and connect any electrical appliance I may need, in particular a small air compressor that I used for tyre repair. Total cost 12 Euros, calbes and plugs included. 2) Foot pegs - Decent for road at most. One of the first things I changed for a Pivot Peg. Quite expensive but very usefull when off road. 3) Tyre - Simply a shame After 1500 km I changed both for off road tyres as I do some rides over the alps when I can. Where I do not agree 4) Cruise control - with an ADV bike you can live without I have a simple (ad-hoc) lever I use on the highway and remove when I leave them (apologyse I do not know the english name for it). Would never spend anything for a cruise control on an ADV bike. 5) Crash protection Thanks god the Honda original is not factory mounted. I made the huge mistake to buy the Honda bar-set spending more than 500 Euro and got an almost useless metal tube. As it is fixed at the engine base (very good fix) and under the front plastic with a little metal bar (ridicolous mount) as soon as you delicately lay the bike on the ground it flexes making the bars touching the plastic it should protect. This is a real shame for Honda. Just for completeness, I changed the bottom crash plate with a more protective one, money well spent (made in Italy) and the exhaust terminal, more for aesthetic rather than anything else. Added non original paniers and few other things to make it ready for raids lasting more days (see my channel if you wish). Not too many changes to make it really ready for True Adventure. Having said all that I have my CRF1000L since one year now and it is by far the best bike I have ever had and would not change it for any other. Thaks for the video and all the best.
+Matteo Casarico oh man. I agree. This was a video just for fun. Mainly a mutual friend who hate my bike. Hehehe. I named off all the stuff that come on the Tiger XCX. Hehehe. He hates tigers too. Hehehe. But in all fairness. I am with you. I love the bike and a couple or so of these should be fixed by Honda. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment my friend. I appreciate you. I will check out your channel when I get home from work. I work all night tonight. Thanks again for watching and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Some very valid points there, and it's also nice to hear the cons for once. I had actually disregarded the centre stand as I never really use the one I have - but that's on a bike with tubeless tyres - the Africa Twin has tubed tyres, and this makes a massive difference if trying to change a tube at the roadside, especially if your on your own. My number one problem, is the cost of the additional parts, £50 for a 12v socket that probably costs less than £2 is disgusting. £385 for the crash bar - these probably cost well under £20 to manufacturer and ship. £160 for the centre stand, which is likely around £10 to manufacture and ship - tops So my number 1 complaint, is the extortionate cost of accessories, I'm from a manufacturing and fabrication background and even complex parts can be manufacturers for less than the raw material costs in the U.K. from good quality suppliers and from excellent materials. I find the prices disrespectful, and a bit insulting.
+Russ B thank you for taking the time to arch and comment. I agree it is expensive stuff and like you said many of these items don't cost near what they are charging us and it should be on the bike to begin with. Thank you so much and have a blessed week
I am on my 3rd AT and I absolutely love them, I would not buy anything else, but I cannot agree more with your 6 things. The cruise control don't bother me too much, but would have been nice. the other 5 is just ridiculous it should have been standard.
+Jeremy Janse Van Rensburg oh wow. How cool is that. I still have my first one. Don't have money for more that 5 sounds fun. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.
I will be doing a video the 10 things I love about this bike as well. I am glad you enjoyed the video and I hope this video helps and make no mistake I am not unhappy with this bike, I love it and I think they could have done a few more things to make it better and who's to say they wont in the next years model, I hear they may even include the 12 volt acc port on this next years model so that is a good sign. Thanks again for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
great video! this will be useful for people about to get one. is the Africa twin drive by wire, is so there should be no excuse for not putting cruse control on it, looking foward to seeing the adventure your planning!
Oh man, it is going to be a fun year this next year. heheheh. Thank you sir, I think it is a few things Honda can do to make it better bike overall on the purchaser. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
haha Im looking foward to riding next year as well! no problem, I feel like every bike needs some extras to make it better depending on the person. ride safe out there!
Man no aux power on that bike would be anoying. I understand that they need to keep the tecs busy but i bet there isnt a line up at the dealer to have them installed at that price lol. Cruse should be a factory option at least and why can't we choose from 2 tire types depending on your riding style? Good points Dale. I hope all manufactures take some notes :)
+Masons ADV oh thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Thank you again it is much appreciated. I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Thanks again
+lonestarrider hehehe. I know right. I couldn't remember all 5. Hehehe. Thank you sir for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
In Australia the ABS and DCT model comes with a centre stand and an OK skid plate. I agree it should come with a power socket. I disagree with cruise control, that feature belongs on a road touring bike not an adventure bike.
+Bad Juju that is excellent news. I wasn't aware they came with the center stands over seas. That is cool. We didn't get the tools in the tool box here either. Never in my life have I bought a new bike that didn't come with the tool kit. Yes sir. The cruise control is a stretch. I was just trying to come up with 5 things and thought I would throw that in there and see what people's thoughts are. I truly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment my friend. Thanks again and have a blessed week.
Heartland Dual Sport Hey we get some tools too. nothing to write about though... spark plug socket 12mm 13mm 15mm 17mm oprn enders double ended screwdriver chinese pliers.... cheap ring spanner for shock adjustment I think the tool kit should contain enough items to change oil, air filter, adjust chain and change snd inflate front and rear tubes... its an adv bike that means basic service trailside. Enjoy your AT..... Im enjoying mine.
I agree about cruise control. I would guess it is ride by wire so why not put cruise control in? It's totally standard on so many cars these days. Add an inertia measurement unit (IMU) with traction control and cornering ABS. These electronic suites should not be reserved for the top level super sports bikes, great safety features. BMW seems to put such tech in quite a few of its bike. My other comment is weight. Is it around 510 lb wet (230kg)? Put it on a diet. Looking forward to KTM's 790 ADV in 2018 to see if it provides an ADV with sub 200kg wet weight.
+Andrew Dunkin thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Sorry for my delay in reply been out of town and no cell service. I agree. Will be fun to see how Honda andwers some of the issues and see what other makers do with the newer bikes. Keep me posted on the new KTM. Thanks again and have a blessed week.
I had to get used to the cruise control on a motorcycle. It was weird letting the bike take throttle control. I finally got used to it this past weekend. I still take back throttle control around curves. It made a world of difference since my hand have been hurting me. Seems like small stuff. I think some of the things are good since you would most likely change them anyway. I would be curious to know what the recommended services cost. Like my bike is at 6000 and 12000 miles. Triumph is astronomical. $600 at 6000 miles and $1000 at 12000 miles.
+azdesertdog yes sir. I did factor that in and waited on the Honda. That honestly was a huge factor for me. After buy a Ducati a few years ago and basic oil change being over $150 bucks and other service stuff like you say 600 bucks. Try and do it yourself and the bike won't start. I thought I won't do this again no matter how awesome the bike is. I love your bike but the expensive service is something I think dealers should do better for the customer. No need it it being that high. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment my friend. I appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week.
Amen to that my friend, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment my friend. Thank you so much and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Again, thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you young lady. It is a fun video and as you know I love the bike, so making this video was a fun deal but hard to come up with 5 things they should fix or include when they come out with next years model, I hear it may have a charger on it so it is working already hehehe. J/K Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week young lady.
On one hand I could agree with you more. On the other hand basicLly everything mentioned in this video come stock on the Tiger XCX for the same sticker price. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Is it not possible to have the optional accessories added on at the time of purchase factored into the price? Those accessories being the ones they have at honda dealerships.
I would think so, This video was meant to be a fun video for all the honda haters, But some of the stuff is factual as well. Honda could have done more to this bike to make it more adventure ready, now that is just my opinion, but make no mistake, I don't think everything I think is for everyone, it is just me and some food for thought, I did a top 10 things I love about this bike as well. I think it is a fun video also. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks for the upload, always interesting to hear what the real world ownership is like. I'm with you on cruise control, but none of the Honda adventure have it right now. Even the CrossTourer which is arguably a touring bike. I'd love one of the DCT equipped bikes but I refuse to buy one without cruise. Come on Honda sort it out!
Yes sir for me, this was a fun video and make no mistake, I love my bike and the cruise control was not a deal breaker for me. I do think it would make a nice perk on the super long adventure trips, (we have one planned for 2017) and again, not a deal breaker, but something I think Honda should think About. I am such a small chancel, I doubt Honda will be watching my videos hehehe. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I Hope you have a blessed week and a Happy New Year my friend.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment my friend. Yes sir, that is not good at all, the XCX here is 1only 500 more on the sticker price, but they will come down that 500 and the Honda Dealers were not budging on their price last year on the AT since most people were putting money down on one before they even got here. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend my friend. Thanks again my friend.
Of all the folks who have watched this video and commented, you are one of the very few who actually figured out I was basically competing it to the things that come on the XCX and it is the same price as this bike. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on our videos. I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
damn right. Nice to see that you tell it straight with no influence from anyone else. Honda should have fitted all those essential if not basic items for an adventure bike that's hugely marketed as an adventure bike. Are The small footpegs because Japanese have small feet? Not fitting a centre stand a 12v Aux socket is criminal for the asking price. It should also have an electronic suspension option and maybe even a shaft drive option & throw in a puncture repair kit for the tubed tyres. Even the old Africa twin had all terriain tyres &,a centre stand as standard didnt it? I know its heavier & not as capable as the A.T on the really off road ruff stuff but you get a lot more for your money on the Yam Super Tenere 1200 (has cruise control) & being a shaft drive with no hassle expense or constant maintenence of chain & sprockets & wheel/ chain alignment
as I am looking for something park next to my wr250r I am disappointed that both the tiger and Africa twin require quite a bit take down to change air filters. bmw 800gs is only 6 bolts on one panel then two Philips. the twin requires front fairings removed, bolts, clips air snorkels then two filters. tiger is multiple panels and then the seat and gas tank with wire plugs and multiple hoses. my wr requires removal of one panel and the klr is one screw. I guess they figure that if you are on the Africa twin you will be up front where the trail air is clean. haha
Yes and if you have the front crash bars, you will have to take them off as well, it was not very good planning in my opinion, but I am sure they did it for the guys who have the shops, they can easily charge an hour labor for a simple air filter change and if you decide to do it yourself, do it on a day you didn't plan on riding anyhow. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale
$100/hr here near me. Almost all points in this vid would apply to the CB500X as well. Just a "Honda Thing" I guess! LOL thanks for the great review! Hope you have a blessed week as well my friend!
Oh man, I am really thinking it was 75 per half hour here, which I thought to myself, "self, learn how to fix it yourself" hehehe even if i screw up stuff it will be cheaper to fix what i screwed up heheheh. Thank you sir, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I do wish Cruze was an option for sure. how ever I for one am glad that all of these things you mentioned do not come upgraded as standard equipment. All that would do is drive up the enital purchase price of the bike with add on and secondary equipment I'm likely to change out for systems I prefer over stock OEM equipment. In the end increasing my over all financial invstment. Thanks Honda for not forcing us to buy your add on parts and pieces that would end up in my never ending box of stoke parts I have replaced!!!!
+Corey Beaty yes sir. I agree cruise would be nice. But your right. The more they add to it the more it will cost. This is basically a video talking about he things that come standard on the XCX at the same price point here in the US. But I am very happy with my purchase and love the bike overall. Thanks again and have a blessed week.
+MN dual sport and adventure yes, I so agree cruise control would help on long trips for sure. thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Great vids Ian, much appreciated. Would you consider expanding on comparison of A.T. to Tenere please as you are uniquely qualified to do so. Cheers, Thom
Thank you for your reply, I do have several friends who have the Yamaha, So I will try to get one of those videos made soon. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply and I am sorry for the delay in replying been busy here at work this past couple of week. I hope you have a blessed weekend my friend.
Valid points, I would add Display... works ok 85% of the time. However in bright daylight, and face shields , or goggles.. not so good. No bike comes with crash protection do they????
Thank you sir, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I did think about adding the display, But you are right, in bright sunlight, it is a bear to read sometimes. I actually had it and forgot about it hehehe. Yes sir almost everyone of the complaints in this video the Tiger XCX comes with, for about the same money here in Oklahoma. The XCA comes with more stuff, but at a higher price point so I didn't mention them since it is a much higher priced bike. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
great list. recently got my AT. one thing i would add to the list is they need to include from the factory heated grips. and ones that actually heat up and work as they should! other than that the bike is pretty damn awesome though.
+sthrallday thank you for taking the time to watch and comment my friend. Yes I do agree heated grips would be nice as well. Thank you again and I hope you have a blessed week.
#3 adv tires gripe. Most people don't ride adv bikes off road, fact. All the other gripes can be addressed with aftermarket parts. Look at comparable bikes, they can be a lot more expensive. Honda kept it simple and you can't fault them for that.
I so agree, this video as for fun and at a request by a friend of mine. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I do appreciate your input and could not agree with you more. Thanks again my friend and have a blessed week.
I would always be extremely slow to buy a bike in its first year of production. The problems that you highlight may be sorted in year 2 or 3 by the factory. in saying that I don't think I'll be buying a new bike any time soon. Family finances have taken care of that problem for me. :-)
+Jungleland33 I agree I have been slow in the past. I went ahead and bought this one but skipped the DCT tranny for just that reason. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week
Good points all. The after market guys got to make a living as well huh. I wonder if some companies out there give a portion of their profits to Honda for leaving these things off
+Ride AMAP (As Much As Possible) oh man. I would not doubt that a bit. It makes sense to me. Hehehe. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
At that price point no cruise control and center stand are a deal breaker for me. I typically ride with my buddy 400-500 miles a day on our long trips and it would be for me impossible without cruise.
I don't blame you, almost everything I mentioned in the video comes standard an the Tiger XCX at basically the same price point, that is the whole premise of the video. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale
Cant argue with anything you said, for a few hundred dollars more it would be nice to have these items. The reality is that every company markets products like this now.
Yes sir, I agree, I know they are trying to keep the cost down on this bike, but at the same time some of the things are just ridiculous that they don't come on the bike from the factory. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
+magnus pym yes sir. I agree. It's amazing to me how many people disagree. But after a 600 mile day which is fairly easy I can see how beneficial one would be. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Agree with most of those - on my AT stock pegs were quickly replaced by PivotPegz, and I ponied up for the Honda fairing crash bar. Tyres I'm not so concerned about - stock are good for tarmac and hard-pack gravel, and you'll want to replace them for the terrain you're adventuring into. Motoz Tractionator Adventures are working well for me. Lack of cruise control doesn't worry me too much either - back roads in New Zealand aren't long enough to justify it! I'd add a few things to the list though - the windscreen lugs are badly designed - lose the backing nuts from the lower bolts and you have to dismantle the front end of the bike to retrieve them. I'm also pissed with the optimistic speedo. up to 5% I can handle, but my AT is 9% optimistic. Would be good to be able to set the front wheel circumference to tune for different tyres. The handguards are a joke - they were quickly replaced by Barkbusters with a metal backbone. The indicator and horn buttons are in the wrong place. Honda had to move the horn to above the indicator switch to allow room for the DCT paddle shifter at the bottom of the switch block. Takes a bit of getting used to, especially if you switch bikes regularly. And while I love the DCT for most riding conditions, slow speed manoeuvring is a black art. Reducing throttle cable slack and bending the parking brake lever for better accessibility helps. It would have been great if Honda had provided a hydraulic rear brake lever in place of the clutch lever - then I could ride the AT just like my mountain bike. But no doubt there's all sorts of health & safety stuff as to why they couldn't - grabbing a handful of rear brake thinking it was the clutch could lead to a few interesting experiences.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment, You have made some very valid points as well. I agree. Fun times, could you imagine how awesome grabbing the rear brake thinking clutch hehehe, you cracked me up on that one, love it. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and valid points. Thanks again my friend and I hope you have a blessed week.
1: lack of power, its the runt in the litter for hp.2: Front forks are too light and you constantly bottom them out3: no crash protection, plus to install you must unbolt exhaust and skid plate to install4: cruise control5: no 12v included, to install you must remove entire cowling PITA6: first time you crash the mirror and plastic hand guard break, useless7: need to order the tall windscreen if you want any protection8: Africa twin 90hp? and 503lbs or 534lbs (DTC), KTM 150HP 518 lbs or 160hp and 530lbs
Comes with center stand in Australia, Put some bark busters on and looking at what crash bars to fit. 15 tooth front sprocket just to gear it down a bit. Don't need to do 200 km/h between trees. Swapped out the rubber after 1000km. A 12volt and USB charger cost about $20.00 and take 20 min to fit if you have half a brain. But would cost $5.00 at the factory I'm sure. Would like a higher front guard if getting picky. Do love my Africa Twin !!!!!
you have been riding the bike for 1600 miles and you haven't realized that you can remove the rubber on pegs to reveal the metal pegs for offroad usage... and are there any bikes that come with crash bars standart!?
hehehe, the standard foot pegs are tiny, they are smaller than the ones that came on my DRZ. Yes, I do know you can take the rubber out, they are still tiny though, compared to the ones I replaced them with anyhow. Yes, the Tiger XCX priced the same come with almost every option I mentioned in this video. Before you start to hate me to badly, you should Know I love my bike, this video was a spoof for a friend of mine who is a KTM owner and he hates honda, I am sure because he was working for KTM and they gave him a demo bike to ride back and forth to work., He has since left and I am not sure if he even has a bike now.? This video has honestly has gotten more people engaged that I had ever thought. If you have one, you know it is a great bike, if you don't have one, check out my video, the ten things I love about this bike. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale
I agree about 12v port, center stand, crash protection and crappy footpegs but cruise control?? not really. They are more important things to hate IMO like small gas tank, weight, funny toolbox or aluminum footpegs mounts. They brake easily. For adventure this bike it's just too fragile.
+Wild One thank you so much for your in put. I did this video for fun. But it is surprising to me how many people love or hate the cruise control. I never thought there would be so many people who felt so strongly about it one way or another. Again for me it wasn't a deal breaker. I don't use it in my truck. Again, I am sure if you watch any of my other videos. I love this bike and the video was just for fun. Thanks again for your comments and I hope you have a blessed week.
I've never had cruise control on a bike. but i could never go back from having on the car i think it should be standard on all cars, saves me getting speeding fines.
Good vid, Honda I think want you to spend money on accessories, granted it ain't a cheap bike, but motorcycle manufacturers have wised up that bikers will part with their hard earned cash to make the bike a little more individual.
I appreciate all your info, but it was painfull to have to listen to 5 minutes to get 1 minute of info.... great insights that help me plan a purchase, Thank you.
+Mark Heinig hehehe thanks. The AT does much better in cross winds than the DRZ. But if you live in Oklahoma you will get good at riding in wind or not ride. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on the video. I appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Great points, $13000, I expect more. They call this nickel and dimming the customer. Where the value for your money. Cost the price of a small compact car.
Yes sir agreed, I ended up selling it so my wife could go with me more and we have the jeep now, its tons of fun as well. Thank you and have a blessed week. dale
Hi , first of all AT the you have comes just like this , why you didn't pay more money and bought the high level ( adventure sport ) ? Second thing , friend of mine bought BMW 1250 adventure with 24000 K US dollar , and he need to add alot alot of things ,, This is motorcycles life , even you just bought a complete motorcycle, you will discover after while that you need some eles to add . I am sure you understand.
Oh, I made this video for a freind of mine who had the KTM at the time. Long story short, I loved the bike, the things I mention in this video all come standard on the Triump Tiger 800 at the time of this video, and they are both priced comparably. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week. Sorry for the delay in the reply, not sure what happened. Dale
Thank you for taking the time to watch my friend. This was a fun video to make, I basically called out the difference between the twin and the XCX by triumph. This is a great bike, but I will second that on the foot pegs. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week sir. Dale
Saw an Africa twin in the showroom last week. Found it to be a large bike, too large for serious off-road use. I’m 6ft and felt it may be daunting to ride. Very nice bike but I won’t be buying at a 14k price point.
Oh man, sorry for the delay, i am not sure how I missed this one. I completely understand, keep us posted on what bike you ended up getting. Thank you and have a blessed weekend. Dale
Yeah, when I first heard that, I said the same thing, I found out later after having a adv bike and you factor in long long road trips to get to the dirt and or offload stuff, it will pay dividends to have one, however, I knew it didn't have it when I bought the bike, and again, I don't even use the cruise control in my truck, but I have found on a really long day riding 500 plus miles, it would be handy. but still not a deal breaker for me, 10 things I love about this bike will be coming soon. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed week.
those street tires , Honda realizes that most buyers will be using the bike for road rides. The ktm 790 will come with dirt tires because most will be riding them in the dirt. Just the way it works. great bike
I agree with you that that stuff should come from the Factory, but I'm sure it would cost more lol . I don't however think that if you are sponsored buy a company that you are going to lie to people in your videos. I have some thing sent to me but I'm not going to lie to everyone and tell them that it's great if it's junk.
heheh, you crack me up buddy, I was not talking about you, i was talking about all the editors of major magazines who where flown out to africa to try the bike out originally etc and not one of them that i seen or read didn't mention that it does not have a 12 volt charger, i mean come on, 75 bucks for the charge and 1.5 hours for the dealer to instal it ay 75 bucks and hour, at most it is a $10 dollar item that should have came on the bike from the factory. Thanks for watching and have a blessed week my friend.
+Annette Russell yes sir. There is def some pros and cons. I love speed and power as well. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and share your thoughts. I have a buddy looking at the KTM 990. I have always loved the KTM's. They make great bikes. Some of the best. Thanks again and have a blessed week my friend.
This is such an idiotic video... how many times can you say “this is an adventure bike...” you want off-road tires but you want cruise control for 500 mile days. Go do 500 miles in the rain with 50/50 tires. Adventure to you must mean on-road riding from one Starbucks to the next, not off-road where this bike shines. I’m 250lbs and have no issues with the pegs or with standing on them. I also have no issues with installing the tires that I like to ride. I’m assuming Honda can’t sell a bike with every possible tire model to make everyone happy. You want crash bars but yet you’re more concerned with cruise control? Seems to me you want an adventure bike that looks the part but yet you don’t want to use it off-road. Why not complain that Honda didn’t include bags or heated grips, or heated seat or aux lighting. I’m an AT owner but not a Honda apologist. Also, that dealer service cost in your area is cheap. Go to a Harley dealer sometime and check their rates.
Oh man, thank you so much for your feedback. I actually made this video for a freind who at that time had a KLR and he was always bashing the bike. everything I mentioned in this video at the time was included in the tiger and priced essentially the same. I loved my bike, sorry for the delay in the reply, this comment got stuck in a spam folder for some reason. I hope you still have your bike and still love it. Again, thank you smooch for the feedback and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale
Yeah, I really do like a few of the things on the Tiger, I did almost buy one. I am still very pleased with mine and the primary reason I went with this bike, so stay tuned for the 10 things I love about the honda africa twin. hehehe. Thanks my friend and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I'm wavering between the Africa Twin and the Tiger 800 XRX for commuting, touring, and gravel road exploration, so I'd love to hear what went through your mind as you shopped these bikes. If you're going to touch on this in your "10 things I love..." video, I can wait. Thanks.
I would go Tiger. It comes with everything the twin doesn't. Plus if you want, it comes with heated grips and seat. Not just 1 accessories port but 2. The main thing that killed the twin for me was color choices. I didn't want the same color bike that HDS has. Even though the Tiger is an 800 and twin is 1000, the Tiger has same horsepower.
Yes sir, it will be part of that video, I do like both bikes, but my reasons for going with this one will be in that video. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment my friend, I appreciate you..
Oh yeah, most definitely, it would not be good one for the muddy roads for sure, yes sir, i agree I have about decided which one I want to go with I will more than likely do it in the spring with christmas isn what not coming on and winter I don't ride much do it then before we head off on out adventures in the spring and summer. Thanks again, for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I have the Honda VFR1200X and I have the same problem It was Marketed as an adventure bike here in Australia but to make it a truly capable bike on an offroad I had to spend big. Proper Metal Handguards Decent size footpegs Crashbars Skidplate Offroad Panniers Cruise Control I'm ready to look around for the next bike, and I have always loved my Hondas, but I just dont think I can buy a AT and might have to go Orange! Yes the AT is cheaper, but by the time you add all the shit you have to add to it to make it survivable offroad )and comfortable for long stretches) you come out even with the more expensive KTM's, Trumpy's and BM's With the AT they decided to go backwards with Technology and not use the Fly by Wire throttle. This means fitting a cruise control is difficult and expensive Also only 100hp? Seriously. Yes I know you dont need that offroad, but on road you do. At least with KTM/BMW you have all the different modes so you have lower power for offroad and full power for on road. Honda should have done what BMW do. Make 2 differnt bikes based on same setup. Offroad version with everything on it so you dont have to spend a cent more and cheaper onroad version.
+Rob Bessell yes sir. Those are some very valid points. I will say I agree totally. The will end up with a throttle lock since it's cheaper. I know it won't work like a true cruise control but I think it will work good enough for my long stretches. I have mine at the suspension shop as we speak. Beefing up the springs. But your right. There is some good bikes out there. I am pleased with my bike overall and it fit my budget. I do agree two bikes with similar design. Triumph has done the same thing as well they have basically 6 bikes made off the XCX frame pending on what you do most of. Thank you so much for watching and giving us your input as wel. It is great appreciated and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Think cruise relies on can bus electrics and thankfully The CRF1000 Africa Twin doesn't have it. Those, er , crash bars you mentioned, well they ain't. Check the Honda small print 😉
You know I truly TRULY appreciate your reviews. I know if you're reviewing something then it's an honest review. I have wasted money on something that someone (won't say who but he puts out lots of videos too) and he talked about how great this thing was. He plasters this company's name all over his channel. Either way I bought it thinking it will be great. I had nothing but problems. I thought it was me until I found your review on it and you were like it's crap don't waste your $150 on it. I thumbs down the other guy and unsubscribed. Don't care for sell outs like that. He tries to portray himself so high and mighty but he is a sell out and misleads people. Not you! I appreciate you sir! Great video by the way!! It's just a 12 volt charger Honda...come on?!
Thank you sir, I appreciate you watching and commenting I try to give viewers the best honest approach to anything we have spent our hard earned money one and this video is one that is dear to my heart, because I love this bike, but a few of these, I really think should be standard and not a way for the mechanics at the honda dealer to be making extra money off of you knowing you will need a phone charger. don't make any sense to me. Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement, I truly appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week my friend
As a business owner I would guess Honda figured 99% of the AT owners would customize their own bikes to fit them so why put upgrades like Cruise, Crash-bars, power outlets, act... they save money not putting them on when you might just take them Off. They at least give you options
Oh I so agree with you, This video was done as a spoof and everything I mention in this video comes stock on the Tiger XCX, basically the same cost as the Honda AT for the same money. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale
+Frank Stocker yes sir. You are right. It does not have the right stuff for a true cruise control thank you for taking the time to watch and comment I appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week
I'll say the center stand SHOULD be a given; more so than the tires. As for the tires...they probably think like SUV makers. Why put on a tire more geared toward off road, than a tire more geared for the road? Because the majority of drivers/ riders, will spend their days on pavement. Good points to consider. Those foot pegs are tiny!!
I agree, it was a fun video to make, and it was more of a spoof for a friend of mine who at the time was riding a KTM, he worked for a KTM dealer at the time and was always smashing on my bike hehehe, Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.
Made to a price point, most owners will never take them far ,they just want to own one and the AT gives you more bike per buck than bmw or ktm. So they get ya in the extras catalogue to up the revenue. I agree with all bar cruise control..... cruise control for touring not adventure in my view and akso the triumph is not an adventure bike its a road bike styled as an adventurer..
+David Hardstaff yes sir. I agree with all stated as well. I did this video as something fun to see what people's thoughts are. I agree. Fun stuff and it is a great bike and bang for the buck. My 10 things I love about the AT will air soon. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
+sandbiker yes sir. There are some after market ones as well. But when I get one I will go with Honda. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week.
Only one thing that I hate: tubed tyres! Come on, Honda! Some enduro riders have tubeless and tubeliss system, while dakkar rider have mousses. What's with honda and tubed tyres? Has it learned nothing from the Transalp?
heheh, yes sir, I agree it is an easy fix and obviously wasn't a deal breaker for me. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Great vids, hopefully getting a AT this weekend if all goes just right. The Bungee cord has been ride tested by myself on my 03 Vstrom 1000 from Seattle to Taos NM, Seattle to Northern California, and Seattle to outside Denver CO ('08 KLR650). I have a throttle lock but prefer my Bungee. FreeFlow on ADVRider.com is my friend that told me about it. Thanks you again for the quality reviews on the AT. They are much apprecitated and look forward to more. -Fat Toney
+Ben T oh man that is awesome. Keep me posted. Sounds like you live to ride as much or more ham me my friend. That is awesome. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and again keep me posted buddy. I hope you get yours this weekend as well your gonna love it. Your family lives in a beautiful part of our state. I love to ride down that way every chance I get.
The number 1 thing I hate about my AT is the crappy transmission. My AT transmission is very clunky ,especially from 1st to second. and somewhat clunky from 2nd to 3rd. Anyone else with this problem?
I purposely have not replied waiting to see if anyone else who has one is experiencing the same thing you are talking about. I may have got lucky with mine, but I don't recall any issues like you are having. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend my friend. Dale
the reason Honda does not put all these things on the at is price point. If they did all that it would be a $16000 bike. Yes those other bikes may come with a bunch of that stuff , but they are not a Honda, you have to pay a premium for Honda quality
+jeff ferguson oh I agree. Thanks so much for your input and watching the video. It was a fun one to make and I have enjoyed seeing everyone's response. Thanks again and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks again my friend and Have a blessed week.
yeah micro transactions. its bs
The Bible tells us in the book of Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." and in Ecclesiastes 7:20 it says "Certainly there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins."
This tells us that all human beings are sinners (we all break God's law), therefore, we deserve God's punishment for going against his word, but the good news is that through his son Jesus Christ we can obtain forgiveness of sins:
John 3:16
[16] For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but may have eternal life.
Romans 5: 8
[8] But God shows his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Amen

I know this is an older video but all of these things you have mentioned are to increase money flow.. things you need but they want to charge us for them separately.. they can charge way more by doing that.. thanks.
I agree, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.

Dale
Thanks for review. I’m also enjoying my AT with DCT.
Your very welcome. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It is truly appreciated. Thanks again and have a blessed weekend.
Dale.
Thanks again,
Dale
Thanks again,
Dale
seen your video today took my first test ride of the africa twin today. earlier. your vid helps and thank you for helping me to decide to buy.
300 miles on it now, it is sweet!
Dale
Keep us posted on your bike and how it is still holding up my friend.
Dale
I'm pissed that mine didn't come with mountains and deserts to ride it on........
Twistygrip Fla I wish mine came with the girl that was sitting on it in the poster...false advertising!!
heheh, I know right, but I did see you riding with Misty and Jay, How awesome is that, I love it there, maybe just maybe one day I can move there. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
LOL
Ride AMAP Happy Thanksgiving!!
Twistygrip Fla thanks bro. You too
It's really hard to find honest reviews. Like you said, anything has its pros and cons. Ride safe bro.
Why would he know u are looking at bikes u idiot
Dale
@@HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors but triumph has one spare cilinder that i don't want... i just need a 2cilinder parallel engine
Thank you so much

I know this video is a little old but its still very helpful 👍🏻
What are your thoughts on the 790 adv R? It seems to solve every single problem you have with the Africa twin for around the same price brand new.
Yes sir. The video was basically was done as a spoof for a friend of mine who Hates Honda. But with all the things mentioned. The XCX comes with all the things I mentioned for about the same money.
I can’t say I have done enough research on the bike you mention. But it sounds like a great bike. What little
I do know about it. Looks pretty sweet.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.

im with you all the way on your comments ! i have an 1984 bigred and even that has a 12 volt outlet...
Thank you so much, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend
+Roger Morello thank you so much thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Good points. I am looking at the Vstrom for an adventure bike.
I hear rumor someone has made one for the Honda AT as well, but it is very expensive and I don't have the budget to try one out, I will get a throttle lock one day
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.
The rev counter on the 2017 dash is definitely difficult to see but I'm not sure how many people actually need a RPM instrument anymore.
Honda doesn’t make a cruise control option though. Plus mine is rbw so it would seem there is no option to pick what I want
Hi there, nice video.
Let me give you a view from the other side of the ocean. I agree on 3 of your points.
1) Charger - The original one is outrageously expensive and not practical
I mounted a dual USB charger connected to the battery.
3) Tyre - Simply a shame
After 1500 km I changed both for off road tyres as I do some rides over the alps when I can.
Where I do not agree
4) Cruise control - with an ADV bike you can live without
I have a simple (ad-hoc) lever I use on the highway and remove when I leave them (apologyse I do not know the english name for it). Would never spend anything for a cruise control on an ADV bike.
5) Crash protection
Thanks god the Honda original is not factory mounted.
£160 for the centre stand, which is likely around £10 to manufacture and ship - tops
So my number 1 complaint, is the extortionate cost of accessories, I'm from a manufacturing and fabrication background and even complex parts can be manufacturers for less than the raw material costs in the U.K. from good quality suppliers and from excellent materials.
Good stuff, HDS. I'm definitely tempted by the Africa so it's good to know some of its foibles ahead of time.
Good thing it's only 5 things! ;-) Fantastic Video Dale! Thanks For Sharing My Friend!
Heartland Dual Sport Hey we get some tools too. nothing to write about though...
spark plug socket
12mm 13mm 15mm 17mm oprn enders
double ended screwdriver
chinese pliers....
cheap ring spanner for shock adjustment
I think the tool kit should contain enough items to change oil, air filter, adjust chain and change snd inflate front and rear tubes... its an adv bike that means basic service trailside.
Enjoy your AT..... Im enjoying mine.
Great video man! I couldn't agree more.
Thank you sir, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and Hope you have a blessed week my friend .
Cool. Keep on riding. U know what they say, "I'd rather live on motorcycle than die on the couch. " Cheers
Amen to that my friend, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment my friend. Thank you so much and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Again, thanks for watching and commenting.
Great vid & insight. Agreed about the price and not having those simple things.
All that stuff it is lacking, is because it's a $13k bike and not a $20k bike like a BMW or Multistrada.
I agree with all the points. Funny thing is that Triumph costs a lot more here...
That's what I like about the Triumph tiger xcx and xca, plus now the tiger 1200 comes with the bathroom sink it seems.
Of all the folks who have watched this video and commented, you are one of the very few who actually figured out I was basically competing it to the things that come on the XCX and it is the same price as this bike. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on our videos. I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I know right, that is what i did in this video is name off the stuff it comes with the AT dont. Thank you and have a blessed week.
Dale
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.
Dale
I've been told there's no cruise control because it doesn't have a fly by wire throttle.
The 2018 Adventure series AT has fly by wire and no CT. Just say'in.
The 2019 has drive by wire and no cruise control.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.

as I am looking for something park next to my wr250r I am disappointed that both the tiger and Africa twin require quite a bit take down to change air filters. bmw 800gs is only 6 bolts on one panel then two Philips. the twin requires front fairings removed, bolts, clips air snorkels then two filters. tiger is multiple panels and then the seat and gas tank with wire plugs and multiple hoses. my wr requires removal of one panel and the klr is one screw.
Great video, I also wish I had cruise control on my bike.
Great review, all great points for the price tag!
Thank you mam, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I truly appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Good points. You forgot no cup holders! Hahaha take care.
hehehe, I know right, I do need a cup holder. hehehe. Thanks for watching and have a blessed week my friend. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
@@Heartlanddualsport great video! I agree with every point
Lack of cruise control is a major snafu.Coming off a tourer. 4-500 mile slab/asphalt days are tough without one..
Excellent points sir ! Good video.
Thank you very much, thank you for taking the time to watch as well as comment, It is greatly appreciated and I hope you have a blessed week.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.
Dale
Comes with center stand in Australia,
Put some bark busters on and looking at what crash bars to fit.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.
Dale
you have been riding the bike for 1600 miles and you haven't realized that you can remove the rubber on pegs to reveal the metal pegs for offroad usage...
and are there any bikes that come with crash bars standart!?
hehehe, the standard foot pegs are tiny, they are smaller than the ones that came on my DRZ.
Dale
Good video.
Thank you very much my friend, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.

thats the reason that i bought ktm 1290 and it has everything on and im so happy about it because its the best bike.....
+Nick Bertsias makes sense. That is a great bike you have. Thanks again for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
I appreciate all your info, but it was painfull to have to listen to 5 minutes to get 1 minute of info.... great insights that help me plan a purchase, Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.
Dale
That 45mph cross wind didn't seem to faze you at all. Is the Africa Twin helping you out there or is that all rider experience?
Second thing , friend of mine bought BMW 1250 adventure with 24000 K US dollar , and he need to add alot alot of things ,,
This is motorcycles life , even you just bought a complete motorcycle, you will discover after while that you need some eles to add .
Dale
Hi friend, Johnny-come-lately here. Great review. My penny thoughts would be purely costs. Although the foot pegs I agree, don't make sense..
Thank you for taking the time to watch my friend. This was a fun video to make, I basically called out the difference between the twin and the XCX by triumph. This is a great bike, but I will second that on the foot pegs. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week sir.
Dale
Very interesting 👍thanks
Thank you, it was a fun video to make. thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
Dale
you are bang on!
+Rod Fischer thank you sir. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed week.
They should have at least added the cruise control as you said that's not an easy fix.
+Doug Berry I agree it will not be an easy fix. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.
cruise control? srcly?
Just the way it works. great bike
Agreed totally, sorry for the delay, I am not sure how that happened.
Dale
It ends up heavier than a KTM 1190r after you add crashbars and centerstand that KTM comes with standard. and still short 47 HP.
Truthfully Annette Russel, do you really need that extra 47 hp? Do you even need all the 90-odd stock horesepower?
Dale
Should've got a Tiger. Cruise control is AWESOME
Thanks for your thoughts, Mad Czech. Nice work on your ammo can panniers for your Tiger.
Yes sir, it will be part of that video, I do like both bikes, but my reasons for going with this one will be in that video. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment my friend, I appreciate you..
I say put a 50/50 tire and go from ther.... that stock tire would get a person in trouble in a off-road situation in a rain storm. 😎👍✌️️🇨🇦
You as well Dale!.... Happy Thanksgiving to you & your Family....🙂✌️️👋🇨🇦
I have the Honda VFR1200X and I have the same problem
It was Marketed as an adventure bike here in Australia but to make it a truly capable bike on an offroad I had to spend big.
Proper Metal Handguards
Decent size footpegs
Crashbars
Skidplate
Offroad Panniers
Cruise Control
I'm ready to look around for the next bike, and I have always loved my Hondas, but I just dont think I can buy a AT and might have to go Orange!
Yes the AT is cheaper, but by the time you add all the shit you have to add to it to make it survivable offroad )and comfortable for long stretches) you come out even with the more expensive KTM's, Trumpy's and BM's
With the AT they decided to go backwards with Technology and not use the Fly by Wire throttle. This means fitting a cruise control is difficult and expensive
Also only 100hp?
+HORNET6 oh I agree. I love the bike and it was a fun video to make. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I hope you have a blessed weekend
As a business owner I would guess Honda figured 99% of the AT owners would customize their own bikes to fit them so why put upgrades like Cruise, Crash-bars, power outlets, act... they save money not putting them on when you might just take them
Off. They at least give you options
Oh I so agree with you, This video was done as a spoof and everything I mention in this video comes stock on the Tiger XCX, basically the same cost as the Honda AT for the same money. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend.

I think the Africa Twin has a cable throttle, cruise control needs ride by wire.
+Frank Stocker yes sir. You are right. It does not have the right stuff for a true cruise control thank you for taking the time to watch and comment I appreciate you and I hope you have a blessed week
Those so called protection bars are labelled as "Decorative" only and not crash protection.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.

I was surprised to find out these bikes don't come with center stands. I guess you have to buy them from Honda.
Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay, comment got lost somehow. ?
Thank you and have a blessed weekend.

$0.20 small bungee cord makes a great cruise control
heheh, yes sir, I agree it is an easy fix and obviously wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Have lots of family in Tahlequal.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend my friend.

the reason Honda does not put all these things on the at is price point.
