- It's been a very long time since we've done a solo episode but we're finally back and if if you've never been around for one we're just here to rant about whatever I happen to find interesting this week.

You should bring Brodie on the podcasts more often. He's really entertaining and knows his stuff.
Really loving this guest, he looks very charming
Yes, but Brodie does not let him talk. He should really give him a chance to speak but the interviewer is always talking.
@@theevilcottonball😂
@@theevilcottonball so true, such rude brodie not letting robertson talk
in re 24:00, KDE *did* this for the Plasma 6 launch. When special stuff is happening, there is the extra mile taken. But also keep in mind that when things are more iterative and stable, there's generally not a lot to talk about. In addition, KDE (and GNOME) both don't have a ton of promo people, spokespeople, etc. like companies do.
There's also the thing that both KDE and GNOME have the separation of the legal entity from the project: KDE, e.V. and GNOME Foundation do not have much to do with the projects themselves. This is particularly common in open source projects from the 90s and early 2000s, as opposed to now where the projects and legal entities are "more integrated" for lack of a better phrase.
my opinion on frog protocols depends on how much effort they took to actually talk with freedesktop in the first place.
brodie robertson interviewing brodie robertson. Also Theprimeagen video reaction lets goooooooooooo
BTW you're one of the LinuxTubers that got me to switch a few months ago so just in case I didn't say it before: thank you, sincerely, I love having an operating system now that does not treat me like a stupid child.
I started with DOS back in the early 90s so yeah, I can handle trying to not blow up my own computer (guess how I learned 😅)
What a fun guest. Please invite him again.
The fated return of the Solo Episode! The prophecy was real!!!
On the topic of the block button, I think keeping it as in is still better than the change proposed solely because it is more friction. Yes, it is easy to get around by just making another account, but it's still better than nothing. It's not great, it's very easy to bypass, and yes, it won't stop the psychos, but it still does at least something.
Especially if people are still able to interact with the content. If you can re-tweet a tweet from someone who has blocked you, the followers can easily start harassing the blocked account. With a screenshot there is no direct linking anymore.
brodie solo episode in 1080p is REAL
If your TH-cam playlist is correct and sorted properly, it says your last Solo was 11 months ago.
The last solo episode was #191 which is pretty much exactly one year ago.
Great guest speaker. Seems like a cool guy.
I feel like a caveman hearing brodie talk about social medias & video games
Company that wants to sell computers really likes the exposure and dealing with tech influencers? Color me surprised. I'm pretty sure Tuxedo would also like the free exposure.
An extended remix, now with extra spice.
I did enjoy the game dev episodes I was able to watch/listen. I think any relevant Linux episodes will take priority and I'm going back and slowly going through the game dev stuff. Not sure I've seen a solo episode yet so excited to see what is in store.
I didn't get why it was called Frog, but the way you described it it does feel like a spell has been lifted, kinda like the classic fairy tale of a frog turning into a prince, and now I'm wondering if that was planned all along.
I really like this "separation of duty" idea of youtube channels, this can just deal with tech in general, your main channel being for linux
Also, twitter is full of psycho, its almost terrifying, they say the most unhinged shit out of nowhere
8:38 the problem is that in many countries, public IPv4 addresses are assiged dynamicly by a DHCP, it has a lease time but it changes and in many cases, turning off and on the router is enough to make it change
TH-cam is not a social media platform.
There is no friends list and there is no method for sharing content among users.
I was one of the people not interested in the game episodes but I don't want to disparage you to make the content you want to make. Maybe it would have been better to sprinkle in some open source episodes in between. Having a wider interest is probably also just good for yourself and the content.
Well, so you have noticed the speccs of pc as well? :D hehehe, Im so happy that some more people is say, wtf is going on?
So the state of DX12 games, is why im not switching to linux right now. As an nvidia user, you can also see around 30-50% performance loss on top of what you look at there, depending on the resolution.
My system, runs pretty much every game like a boss in windows, with an 4090, 7800x3d on a 4k Oled screen. The story is not the same on Linux, due to the state of the vkd3d-proton. Losing the amount of performance in Linux. Is like me sitting on a 4070Ti, trying to play games on 4k monitor right now. We all know that a you dont want to play 4k games on a 4070ti. Why we have a 4090 right now to handle it.
So I dont touch tripple A titles on 4k in linux anymore. We have some games that works, but the later titles pasth 3-4 months is not a enjoyable thing on 4k, with even my setup. My friends running a 4090 on 1440p monitors can get away with it. But when we saw Wukong come out, even my die hard linux friend with the 4090 and 1440p resolution swapped to windows. I was about to fall out of my chair, the day I saw him play the game on windows and streaming it. He had to make a youtube video about the benchmarks and the state of DX12.
22:20 it's called TWiG (This Week in GNOME)
Guess i need to check out Core Keeper, i saw it because it was being cross promoted with another Early game called Abiotic Factor, i recommend that one: imagine Half-Life but with a mixture of immersive sim and some good survival crafting mechanics.
49:00 - No, the recommended OS being Windows 10 is accurate.. Windows 11 is crap for games. So, read it as "You can used Windows 11 if you must, but you should really be using Windows 10"
I wonder how that situation will change in the next year when it goes EOL
@@renner0395 hey, some people are still using 7 and xp
@@generallyunimportant When they don't connect it to the internet I guess it's fine.
My deepest condolences.
I've switched to Nobara Linux (basically Fedora) since June. It's been mostly working for me except for VirtualBox which has been a pain.
Sorry Brodie, I know I'm a terrible follower, I usually watch TH-cam for specific purposes rather than just "channel surfing" 🤷♂️
Also I do dislike how YT puts the onus on you (the creator) with focus on the first day being the most important for a video, like really? With all the stuff out there and people's time being limited, it's kinda stupid; I may not get to a video for a week simply because I have a life too.
51:00 I recently encountered this with Forever Winter, they recommend a rx6800, but didn't give extra info, so I was surprised when it could barely hold 60fps at 1080p medium. At least this is without frame generation, and FW is early access (although I did refund it due to other issues).
And oh yeah, I build this PC back in 2021 for VR, and I can easily play AC and even ACC, heck I have been playing noturiously hard to run Microsoft Flight Sim 2020, on Linux, in VR, and it runs great.
These modern games, that look worse then older games (like Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition can hit over 100fps on high... With an amd gpu... Under proton...) and play even worse... Yeah, they aren't even trying
Brodie doesn’t know he’s running a Linux channel
So many game devs keep adding useless things into the map and baloon the sysrq
They need to stop and make games that actually run on computers
No wonder indie games are so popular rn, AAA games require a $2k pc minimum for a mediocre game.
Maybe try to sprinkle the game dev episodes between other content, i watched the first couples but then it got a bit boring.
because everytime i was running something kinda heavy popos kept cutting out audio on youtube 2nd monitor. so now i use wsl2 and ubuntu works fine but arch doesnt cuz they fucked up systemd, or something. idk im not smart enough to understand it. i just turned it off and 1 zellij pane lives forever running sudo dockerd for the rest of forever.
i use neovim on arch on wsl2 btw
Once you go gentoo everything else seems broken.
dang, imagine using twitter
This guest talks too much
Yeah, the host couldn't get a word in
Also I tried to play CS2 on linux and it was so aaaaaaaaaass man, I need the tearing_protocol and wayland rawdogging integration to play comfortably man.
I need these blue block lists 😂
