Based on the Asian cup, they basically grew a youth team for the purpose of the World Cup and the entire team plays for the same team. So they’re a really tactically disciplined team.
@Sebastian Saam agreed, already have the group stage they can make it out of and then they’ll play either England/USA/wales who honestly don’t have the team to break down low blocks well so they could make it to quarters with a nice helping hand.
I don’t even have much love for them as a country (as is my attitude towards all the gulf states), and I predict a 3-0 thrashing by the Netherlands and a 2-0 by Senegal. There’s other teams I’d rather see advance. Just by being there they’ll have had their time in the sun.
If you give the officials proper incentives they will be on your side this way Qatar can win the World Cup. Make sure reward them handsomely it can help your cause.

Boualem Khoukhi was born in Algeria, he didn't manage to become a professional footballer in my country because supposedly he doesn't have the level for that. he decided to go to Qatar to do some tests in their clubs and he succeeded.

As an Indonesian, i still remember when Qatar beat our national team Indonesia on AFC Cup U-19 , one of the most memorable match i've ever seen. Almost made a comeback 6-5 😁 but yeah Qatar is quite strong on Asian scene.

Afif's Father is a Somali football Legend his father is from Kismayo/Somalia and also his Grand dad but his Grand-Grand Dad is from Yemen . Afif's father also played Somall national team back in the days . I wish Qatar and Afif both that they reach new Milestone.
i remember Sebastian Soria. he won gold at the Asian Games hosted by Doha alongside Khalfan Ibrahim. but they didn't kick on from that tournament until they won the Asian Cup

Well, in light of today’s result, it’s safe to say a lot of the takes in the comments aged poorly. However, they played better than I expected against Ecuador, which makes sense given all the preparation work highlighted in this video. I knew none of this previously. The effort put into their Aspire program is impressive to say the least.

We can say the same thing about France, it's unfair to say that France won the world cup of 2018, it's the African continent squad who won it.
They were born and raised in France and received their football education there. They are French with African nations roots through their parents or grand parents or even a further generation back. It is therefore only right that they play for France. African nations had nothing to do with making them into the stars they have become.

His father, Hassan Afif, is of Somali descent and was born in Moshi in Tanzania.[21] His father previously played for Simba in Tanzania but later moved to Somalia where he went on to play for Horseed and the Somalia national team. i still remember my home country Burma faced Qatar at 2014 U19 tournament.it was a thrilling Semifinals but we were knocked out by Qatari team brilliant extra time performances.

I've been watching the qatari football since 2001,and I can tell you that there is a huge work behind the results they're achieving now and I can tell you also that money is not the only factor behind these results and the proof of this is Qatar"s neighbours,they have the same resources even more and they're not having the same success especially in the youth sector,scouting and forming new talents is not easy !
I agree generally with what you said. Qatar achieved after an impressive project. However they are far far from their neighbors in terms of resources. The country and population are tiny, not comparable to the rest of the gulf. The closest country to their wealth is the UAE.
I watched Qatar play in the Gold Cup and I thought they played better and should have beaten USA, but still USA has a history of finding ways to beat teams that play more attractive style of football than them.

I was so excited to see the Qatari team in the world cup, especially after their Asian cup success in 2019 which was absolutely historical. I still don't understand what went wrong with the team in 2022. Three years to prepare yet something was off. In all cases, I think they did finely and thank you for making this wonderful documentary! Great job 🙌

I'm from Indonesia, and there is a kid that'd been playing for Aspire Academy and of course the Qatar youth team for years now. I mean, it's obviously good for him individually, he got a better facility there, but as an Indonesian it's just heart broken you know? the way they did it is just.. 😬
It's just logic speaking regarding Andri or even better the Serie A player, Emil, considering their league is much better managed than Liga1. Obviously if we know how to make the league more professional when it comes to player management and hooligan management in the first place, not overhyping the youth players and strengthen the academies I think we can make more frequent appearances in the Asian Cup for example.
Imagine how Algerians feel, seeing Zidane, Benzema and even Mbappe playing for France...they could have all player for Algeria national team

On one hand there is a feeling of pride that one of us is representing us out there, and on the other there's this undercurrent of sadness and despair like, if only we could've done better to hold on to such talent. Aspire is awesome, not only for the professionals and semi-professionals but for everyone. When I worked in Qatar , every Thursday or Friday evening we used to play what we call “Ou toppies soccer” in South Africa.
The facility accommodates everyone who wants to keep fit.

Well, I might need to update potential rival teams in Asia - which are currently Japan, Iran, and Australia - after World Cup 2022. I used to think that they were just lucky for winning the latest Asian Cup, but now I understand that it was a result of a long term preparation inside that country. But I don't view it negatively since I personally think that we need more competitions inside Asia to chase Europe or South America. Also, a person or a team can only break the walls with plans, patience and passion that Qatar is currently showing. My country, Korea, also did the similar dedications, such as the full scale support from politics and training the national team for several months a year like a club team, to make the achievement in 2002. And now I still remember the performance my national team in 2002 World Cup when I was an elementary student. So, I hope that the Qatari people can also make unforgetful life memories in the World Cup they host. Anyway, giving such catarsis to the general public is the meaning of Sports, isn't it?

Professional football IS all about money. Regardless of how well your team is or any other consideration around "natural talent", without money you can't move forward. Qatar, like other big oil money countries, understood you need to diversify how you invest and they did it with football. The results are impressive and I'm sure any other country with that infrastructure would also obtain results in such a short time span. Moreso, this helps the world of football as a whole developing further the sport in places where it normally isn't. It helps bring in more level from the base to encourage the top to keep pushing higher the talent cieling. Aspire Academy is a result of what a ton of money CAN accomplish, the question is now how scalable is Aspire Academy in other parts of the world? Very great video!
Very doubtful, nobody denies this region is literally awash with money and they can buy anything they want but that alone is not guarantee of turning Qatar into a respectable football nation, same way many of these countries have the greatest and the latest when it comes to military equipment (which is fantastic for military parades) but they have the reputation of not being exactly capable when it comes to warfare.

Celtic were the first British team to win the precursor to The Champions League, The European Cup, back in the 60s. The catch? All of their players were from within the immediate area. I am a Rangers supporter btw... Would make a great little film for you guys or a bigger production company. Back in those days, both Celtic and Rangers were producing European Cup finalists reguarly, especially for such a small country. However, I doubt Celtic's achievement shall ever be reflected in today's game. In fact, I'd bet my car on it ;0)

If Qatar, a country with 300k population, can win Asian cup, Indonesia hopefully can achievw that, too. Our population is 4th in the world with more than 280M people, and football is loved here. Imagine if we build an elite academy like "Aspire" in Qatar, we will be one of the strongest country in Asia. We have the resources but the coruption in our FA made FIFA ban us for 1 and half year, dropping our fifa rank to 175. Im so glad our current national team is rebuilding with young players playing abroad and they showed progress, qualifying for 2023 Asian cup after missing the last 3 edition. Sorry Danang but having lived in Indonesia I can't see this happening. Indonesians love football, alright, but the conditions for kids are terrible. Most of kids play barefoot, because parents cannot afford to buy them shoes. The pitches they are playing on are another story. Kids play in the afternoon, cows graze there in the morning (true story from Semarang, a city of 2 million people at least).
Quality development or training system is lacking completely. The kids need to learn also discipline, athleticism and tactics. Joyful playfulness is not enough.
As for the national team players, not many of them have the quality to play in any professional league in Europe. Indonesian media and people in general like to overhype things. When Egy Maulana Vikri transferred to Lechia Gdańsk in Poland, the ecstatic news were all over the place. Well, how did it end up? Lechia sent him to their C team, then to the B team before shoveling him to a mediocre club in Slovakia where he's not playing regularly either.
The problems with Indonesian football are systemic and will take a lot of dedication and money over at least two generations before something changes for the better.
@@yannick245 Chile and some South American countries have shirt average height, too. I think it's still possible for us to at least be a decent team in Asia. I didnt mean we will dominate football, I just want my country to be around 90-100 in fifa rank. Our current generation has so many tall kids. There are many parents whose height are both around 140cm but they have children whose height are 170cm+. Like I mentioned above, we must build an elite soccer academy who'll feed the kids healthy food so they can grow and add muscle by working out in gym since young age.

What did Qatar do wrong? They simply made me build their own team with their own money and with their own effort. All countries do this and it is part of the game, but even the most powerful European teams naturalize their players. Qatar did not harm anyone and did not finance the construction of its academy, but the stolen bank money. Or through the drug trade, I don't understand why people are so mad at this?!!

Honestly, I don't see them advancing to the play-off stage. If they're as good as they say in this video they might be able to beat Ecuador, but Senegal or the Netherlands?

I'm a Qatari.... Excellent report by DW. The current team players are Qatari by birth, born in Qatar to immigrants families, immigrated to Qatar with their families at a young age for reasons unrelated to sports, and two or three maybe were foreign players in the domestic league who then became naturalized. Unlike 10 years ago when the team was loaded with foreign professionals from the league who had no connection to Qatar.
Then why doesn’t Qatar have a full program for granting citizenship to all its foreign workers, not just the people who will represent them at international level to show off.
