    I just did this same repair on the exact same jack. Once I took the cover off I simply squeezed the tabs on the switch so it came out before disconnecting anything (I used a flat screwdriver to get the bottom out then my finger for the top one). I could then see all the connections and change them one at a time onto the new switch. Then I just pushed the new switch back into place and put the cover back on.

    So by now you know you do not have to remove the cover. Using a blade or flat tip screw diver you pry the switch out and make the change. This method allows you to keep track of all the wires as you connect the new switch. I have been working with my switch issue for awhile now. I have went through all of the connections to insure they are clean, tight, and the terminal ends are in good order.

    I have the exact camper and hitch. I was hoping I wouldn't have to swap the switch. I've tried everything else.

    I don't have to push hard on my tongue jack switch but it only works intermittently, especially when trying to lower the tongue. I'm thinking it might be the switch but not sure.

    You seem to have lots of issues with this trailer. I just bought a Lippert Power Tongue Jack to upgrade my manual one.

      We've had the camper for a bit over three years and it's had a LOT of use. Sadly it seems new campers come with lots of issues these days. I have friends who have bought new Jayco, Lance and StarCraft campers and are having just as many (if not more issues). A lot depends on how fast they were cranking them out of the factory and who they had working...thanks for watching!

      @@CanadianCampaholic I dont think any of them are very well made. We have been lucky and have had no real issues but I know at some point that will change. Our trailer is a 1017 and we put on about 4000 kms a season

      @@Just4funTravel agreed. When you look at the products offered in other markets (Europe/Asia Pacific) the quality is far better. Sadly any products in North America with similar quality are way overpriced.

    power jack raises about half way stops after a pause it'll work again. going down there is no problem . does this sound like a weak mini breaker?

    • @CanadianCampaholic
      @CanadianCampaholic  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no expert but that definitely sounds like fuse issues on the jack or more likely the rocker switch has a bad connection. See if you can find an owner's manual for your model of power tongue jack online as that may help with the fuse location. If it's intermittent then I'd suspect the switch is a more likely culprit

    You didn't show how you wired the new switch.

  • @jamesmcgrath9627

    Wondering how this problem started. Did it just stop working one day? My jack started working intermittently and I would need to tap the jack to keep it going. Now it does not work. It simply clicks when I press on the button. Wondering if your switch behaved in a similar manner. Thanks

    • @CanadianCampaholic
      @CanadianCampaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started having issues getting the switch to work. I had to really Mash down on it to make it work. Then certain directions would stop altogether. So it would go down but not up and vice versa

  • @chuckrussell6792

    All this shows is how hard it is to take apart. You don't address the VERY important part of which wires connect to which terminals. It looked like the blck and red wires cross over to opposite terminals top and bottom. But, it isn't very clear at all about that.

    • @CanadianCampaholic
      @CanadianCampaholic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You raise a very good point. As the wiring setup may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer I would recommend taking a photo of the wiring before you take it apart so you ensure everything goes back the way it started. The poor visibility inside the case made it hard to film putting it back together.

    Both the light and the jack operation work intermittently however when the jack does not extend or retract the light also does not work. Anyone have a solution?

    • @terrywray2181
      @terrywray2181 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like a flaky connection to the battery or the ground wire.

    • @kat4animals004

      @@terrywray2181 actually, whoever installed this pinched the wiring for the light. I noticed that the wiring was pinched and damaged after I opened the top cover of the Jack. After I move the light and all the wiring a few months ago the Jack has never failed to operate. Poor workmanship.

    Did you have 6 wires on your switch or just 4?

    • @CanadianCampaholic
      @CanadianCampaholic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The switch had six connections on the back but only four were in use/connected with wires. So I took photos and ensured the wires went back the same way. It's been about three years now and no issues at all!

    Hi There, can you rotate the jack head 90 degrees? I cannot open my truck's tail gate and I have not been able to figure out a possible rotation. Thank you

    • @CanadianCampaholic
      @CanadianCampaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never tried this myself, however provided the bolts line up and it doesn't twist any wiring it should work. I have heard of a few folks doing this to give themselves more clearance.

    • @terrywray2181
      @terrywray2181 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have this same jack, and the same issue with clearance for the tailgate. Unfortunately, the three jack mounting bolts are not the same spacing. So you can’t turn it sideways. A solution I have not yet tried is an extended hitch which will give you a few more inches to work with.
