- Brian Gerster qualifies his #50m Sprint Car with a 12.742 second circuit around this high banked 1/2 oval track at 150.585 mph.
The A-Main has been posted on TH-cam (Bristol Motor Speedway, Xtreme Sprint Cars, 2011-10-01) . If anyone has a special interest in the sprint qualifying races, I did capture each start and continued each video until positions were sorted but I haven't done any editing. Let me know and I could bundle them into a single presentation.
I used to race against the owner, and a crew member for that car. I also used to letter his cars before I had to retire.
Wow, it's going through those turns so fast, it doesn't even look real. I don't see what kept his brains from oozing out of his right ear, lol. Amazing footage of an amazing run.
Because of the steep banking 'down' force is a real challenge. Thanks for watching.

I think Winchester Speedway broke the record recently with a similar car, 12.669 seconds

You know they obvously set this, as well as nascar up for any track they are going to, all serious race teams take the track into consideration and adjust things or they arent serious.
how about this, THEY COVERED THE TRACK IN DIRT IN 2000 and 2001 and removed 12 degrees of banking.

It's because Sprint cars have more horsepower and a lot less weight. What do you think is going to happen when you compare them. Both sports are great though
Don't get me wrong, the Sprint cars should have been quite a bit faster. But also there was no transition to an apron with the way the dirt was laid, so all of the cars that ran the Bristol dirt races could shorten up the track a lot by running closer to the inside wall.
The day IndyCar decides to race at Bristol, may God help us.

I think Supermodifieds need another shot at this. They are faster than sprint cars, been proven at Oswego and Toledo
You probably have a point but I think BMS just wanted to claim a speed record without regards to WHAT type of racer was concerned.
A sprint car ran faster than a super at Winchester but I think the rules may have been a bit more restrictive than IMSA for the super. And it was an official race weekend for both so they had to stay within their rules.

The fastest Super Modified on Bristol was Mike Lichy at 13.266 and 144.634 MPH on March 19, 2011.
During that event, Steve Blonde set the record in a Sprint of 13.245 and 144.871 MPH beating the Super Modified.
Prior to that, Sammy Swindell held the overall track record, RUNNING ON DIRT, of 13.860 and 138.442 MPH on June 2000 in the WoO race.
