Fans of Daniel, don’t be angry at Dimash, if not for him singing this song I never would’ve found Daniel. I looked into his life and cried about his tragic and untimely death. He is alive for me, a new fan and I’ve listened to his beautiful voice so many times since. If not for Dimash, I would not have found this gift.
@Bentlee Damon No, just stop that, you wouldn't like it if somebody hacked into your account, don't do it to others anyone reading this.
@Bentlee Damon We give 0 shits about u
Thank you for sharing that sentiment.
Well said, I just learned about 3 amazing artists in one night! RIP❤️🙏🏼
I’m here because of Dimash, another great artist we need to remember!
Dimash brought me here and I now have a lot of respect for Daniel.
Dimash Dears. Let's not compare based on vocal techniques only. Both versions are a great piece of art and have their own feeling. Let's just appreciate the music.
Well spoken
Indeed, Dimash has perfection in technique...DB sings with feelings first...
Daniel sings it like a human would. Dimash sings it like the waves of heaven beckoning. Both are beautiful in their own right. Both are stunningly beautiful.

I think after a couple of listens, I have to say, I prefer this version. As an English only speaker it took me a couple of listens to fully understand the beauty of the French pronunciation. In addition, all the other versions of SOS up until Dimash mimics Daniel Balavoine interpretation. It really grows on you further after seeing/hearing Gregory Lemarchal, Norman Grouix, and Bruno Pelleteir sing it as well. I guess its their native tongues. I love the song even more.
For the record, the music for the song "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" was composed by Michel Berger (a very great French composer) especially to exploit the vocal qualities of Daniel Balavoine who, for his part, add soul to it as he did to all his interpretations. This video that you have just watched is truly unique because it is the only time (in 1985) we can see him sang this song live on French TV before his tragic death on January 14, 1986.
Because of the great Ethiopian famines, Daniel was committed to Africa through the Paris-Dakar Rally. And it was during the transport of water pumps for the cultivation of rice that he died, along with 4 others, in a helicopter accident while flying over the Malian desert. This man was just great in everything.
Yes but the auteur of this song was a french-canadian, Luc Plamondon! Dont forget it...

Yes you are right the lyrics were written by Luc Plamondon,
When A great composer works with the master of lyrics it gives this absolutely masterpiece !! @@JChriz27
Unique
As a huge Dimash fan, I just gotta say this version is absolutely breathtaking. What passion and connection to the music...
This is *the* version.
I don't know who Daniel is. But because of Dimash I got to hear SOS. I am thankful to hear such a Beautiful song. Much respect for Daniel.
Daniel wrote that song
@@restervivant3210 This song was written by Berger and Luke Plamondon for the rock opera Starmania, and Daniel was the lead actor.
@@restervivant3210 This song was written by Michel Berger for Daniel
Both are amazing musicians, no comparison needed. Daniel created and delivered a masterpiece of story and emotion, incredible song that's rightly a classic. Dimash paid homage to it by taking it to levels even Daniel would have approved of. The song and the listeners win in both cases.
Daniel would say: "where is the humility?"
@@alyagab8553 That's what YOU would say.
@@holpcs2 Daniel would laugh his ass off--and he laughed like a loon. He would find this new version extraordinarily funny. (Don't worry, it's a French thing. And an old thing. Water under the bridge.)
@Marie C Jones I have only recently heard the Dimash version a few times now. Hearing Mr. Daniel sing it brings a more heartbroken feeling to the surface. It's beautiful! 😭❤️
@@lightendarkly27 also to me you can enjoy it over and over whereas the other ability is impressive but you'd get tired upon if you had to hear it on repeat.
Daniel and dimash are great singer. Just different era
i agree
Yeah, one is from era where talent and depth were here, the other is from a narcissistic era with no depth.
This man just made me cry and I don't even understand French. That's some powerful delivery
I don't understand any of the debates in here tbh. Daniel Balavoine was interpreting the character from Starmania, with his words, his feelings, his past. Dimash is proposing a vocal performance and I guess he had to learn everything phonetically, he is very impressive indeed. But the two performances don't have the same goal at all, the aim of Dimash is an impressive vocal performance and the aim of Daniel was to interpret a character. (with an impressive vocal performance, as a result haha)

I agree. And I prefer Gregory's version over Daniel. Dimash is my favorite singer, but for this song, he is behind Gregory and Daniel because he just hit the notes, but not really feel the song. I don't care about his pronounciation, but he totally skip and miss some important parts of the song (to just do the more impressive one). But he's still my favorite singer, because I know he can sing with a lot of emotion and passion, he did it a lot. But of course, it was a vocal show at The Singer
I love Dimash but this version is totally my favourite. RIP Daniel Balavoine ❤️
@ghislaine3016
I also came here due to Dimash but more because I also wanted to hear the story and original emotions behind this song.
And I must say I am deeply impressed by this interpretation. Thanks for uploading it.
Came here because Dimash. I am a big fan of Dimash. The vocal range of Dimash is inhuman but, Gregory Lemarch and Daniel have their own way to touch souls and minds too. So happy to discover such beautiful voices 😍

Daniel sang it first without knowing any other previous version. He didn 't study lyric and music at university level as Dimash did. He performed it live analogique and non digital without computers and digital effects. A man with a great deal of humanity and good haert who died standing for what He beleieved in. He did a lot for many. Artisticly I was truly surprised by the range of his voice through out this speachless and moving performance. I didn 't know he was hable of that many tones. RIP
French is my Language, so sorry for my weird English, Michel Berger has written the music of this song of "Starmania" specifically for Daniel Balavoine and Daniel carries so perfectly the rights emotions at the rights moments that I never have seen anybody else that did better than him, even dinash with his amazing, mind blowing voice, I cut the song before the end.
Beautiful. He sang is great! Good points 👍😇🎶🎵.
Died standing for what he believed in? He died in a helicopter crash, when he was flying to assist a football match organised during Paris-Dakar. So what did he believe in, according to you: helicopters? football? Paris-Dakar?
So beautiful. My favorite version.
¡Hermoso!
Une des plus belles chançons qui soient ....
Thanks to Dimash I came across this song for the first time - "sos d'un terrien en detresse". And what a song , a masterpieace all the way through.I can honestly say its the most beautiful and most sad song I have ever heard, and its with me now where ever I go. Thank you to all, Luc, Michel Berger, Balavoine and Dimash for everything.
Both are good! I came here by Dimash.

Merci Balavoine.-
Merci Luc Plamondon
Thank you Dimash for introducing this beautiful song to me. This version is amazing as well⚘
Il ne crie à aucun moment... Mais quel talent!
Technically Dimash is probably the most gifted singer I've heard but in this version the emotion for me is more evident. Even though I do not understand French I feel this song needs a certain vulnerability. French is such a beautiful language on the ear.
listen to grégory lemarchal's version, it's probably my favorite
You are right, the whole song is about vulnerability and distress so the voice and your body langage should show it.
Agree with this, Dimash is technically perfect but I teared up as soon as Daniel Balavoine started singing 😭😢💔
@@sarah9572 I just listened to it and read about him. His tragic story led to his performance being a complete one off. Devastating.
@@costascosta273 ngl your right
He has a tragic story and he wanted a good life like disney princesses
I think sometimes people forget that you can love and/or appreciate two versions of the same thing without putting either version down. Dimash has incredible vocal technique and range and he showed it off brilliantly while singing his cover. Daniel has that raw emotion that hits you in the back of your throat and he's still hitting very difficult notes in a range that most people can't sing. Both versions are absolutely beautiful for a multitude of different reasons and each deserve to be celebrated and put on repeat.
Exactly
I agree with you completely
Je ne me lasse pas. Je ne m'en lasse pas. Merci Balavoine. Félicités éternelles !
The way he sings it suits the lyrics so much.
Someone "normal" would try to sing pretty, but he's not someone "normal". He's someone who sticks out, who doesn't see the world like other people, and he sings in a way that's not usual at all.
A beautiful song beautifully sung
I love Dimash version, but also love this. I'm so grateful that Daniel wrote such a beautiful song. Daniel would be proud to hear Dimash perform this.
This song was Written by Michel Berger and Luc Plamendon for Balavoine
It's nice to hear the original. I got curious about the vocal arrangement and had know how what this sounded like. Just look at his eyes and you will see all the emotion.
you can't compare dinash and daniel. Not the same decade, not the same country. the one is from a musical the second a live voice show...
I agree
@jay cee Please show some respect
Agree. Particularly I prefer this interpretation.
@@gustavomachado7317 me too cause he is french and the original artist of the song so unlike Dimash i understand his prononciation and he sings the right lyrics at the right time.

Such a beautiful and heartfelt rendition. This song was, I believe, written for him and his unusual vocal range, for the musical Starmania in the '70s. This man is singing a story...I would love to see the musical if it is available. I love Dimash too, just very different contexts. Beautiful, moving song, no matter the singer. RIP Daniel Balavoine.
Yes, it was wriiten for him. Michel Berger, the composer, knew exactly Daniel and his vocal capacities. they were friends. There is an english version of "Starmania": "Tycoon". I don´t know now, but before corona, "Starmania" still was played in Paris, but the 2nd version and setup, not the original version and setup of 1979. The one after Daniel, who had the vocal capacity to sing that song, was Renaud Hantson, in 1989-1990. Have a great day!
You can find the 1988 version with Norman Groulx on daily motion.
It's easy if you wanna hear starmania you can do it most of the songs are on youtube just write starmania soundtrack it will get out for you
Dimash is an incredible singer, but he’s very much a _performer_ too. He’s singing is so bombastic and flashy that he doesn’t (I believe) capture the heart of the song, which is more somber and introspective. His version is still very good, but like you said, they’re very different contexts. Which you prefer will ultimately come down to personal preferences.
this one is deeper, made me shed tears without realizing it

This is unbelievably beautiful 😥😥 there's something so sincere in his voice and this song just makes me cry. It takes a certain soul to sing a song like this ❤❤❤ it's freaking stunning!
Also, the pain in @0:48 😥😥 I just cant even cope 💔
Well if you wanna feel Balavoine this was his speciallity famous for his emotions if you hear nay of his sounds they are most of them that way.... You can go listen to "LA vie ne m'apprend rien" From him all his sounds are that way
and without all the technological corrections and enhancements we use at live shows in the 2000s!
Very pleasant to hear. I love this old song vibe and, in fact, it's a good old song and his voice sings it amazingly! Of course, like many here, I got to know this song through Dimash, who really did an incredible job giving it his own colors. But it's clear: no matter what your favorite version is, both are beautiful, and Dimash chose to sing SOS because this version exists and he appreciates it in Daniel's voice. Neither invalidates the other, and everyone is different from each other.
Daniel Balavoine: one of Dimash's inspiration ☺️ Both are great singers
In fairness I think Dimash covers Gregory Lemarchal's interpretation (on Star Academy). For example the end of the song, he ends it like Gregory does, not Balavoine. But either way, it is a beautiful song that has been beautifully interpreted by all three singers.
I absolutely 😍😘😗😗😍😘😗😚😙😙😚 this song.OMG.I love the vast difference(s) between both versions. And even though this is the original version, which is faster than the dimash's version,as I usually prefer faster songs.I have to state. That I compare every version of this song to dimash's version.Firstly because dimash is the person that first introduced me,to this incredible song. And secondly because, dimash sings it incredibly different to all the others I've heard.I will love this song for life. Thanks Daniel and Dimash.
Daniel is beautiful, he sings with so many emotions...and that bass is insane
magnifique ❤❤❤❤❤
I started crying even tho I didn’t understand the lyrics that shows how good he is at bringing out the right emotions in the song
Nice to hear the original artist sing this song. I had never heard of this song until Dimash sang it, and while Dimash hits the high notes much more effortlessly than Daniel does, I do like this version almost as much. A very touching song.

Escuchando a Dimash, llegué a conocer a Daniel Balavoine, un extraordinario cantante. QEPD.
Fabuleux!
This song isn't originally meant to be a concert piece, it's part of a rock-opera. The character who sings this song is a revolutionary gangster and this song is the first glimpse we see of him being more than a violent thug. The high notes being slightly imperfect and cracking really does work in the context of the song an when the vocal performance is only 50% of the completed product. Seeing him act this song on stage in character in an opera setting would be heart breaking!

Merci,Daniel Balavoine!
I love the artistry where @1:36 you cannot distinguish between the bass and his voice, perfection!
každý z nich zobral pieseň famóznym spôsobom. Každý si zaslúži potlesk a našu vďaku za možnosť počuť túto pieseň vždy inak,

Que c bo et léger . J'adore .
