Need some recommendations for reading for pleasure! Too many non-fiction books on my bookshelves. Our culture encourages us to always strive to “improve “ ourselves which also can lead to anxiety and a feeling that there’s something wrong with us as we are.

It depends what you like, a good old fashioned murder mystery or a Stevenson novel always takes me places :-)

Ohmygosh I could not agree more! 🙌The self-improvement culture can be very unhealthy when taken to an extreme and our culture tends to glorify it. I have my favorite fiction reads on my website! helenawoods.com/favorites I adore anything and everything by Colm Tóibín, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Patti Smith. The Signature of All Things is my favorite fiction book of all time. Elizabeth Gilbert's short stories are incredible and so underrated. Check out Pilgrims and Stern Men. Time Traveling Wife is also great - could reread it a hundred times and it never gets old. Audrey Niffenegger's tone and writing style is so cozy and comforting!

    1:18. *1. Connect with nature*
2:13 *2. Getting off social media*
3:12 *3. Set aside time to just live*
    4:44 *4. Stop caring*
    5:43 *5. Be discerning*
    6:50 *6. Non-attachment*
7:37 *7. Balance: slow living vs productivity*
    9:19 *8. Habit tracking*
    10:25 *9. Don’t turn your want-to’s into have-to’s*
    10:44 *10. Don’t take life/people (too) serious*
10:57 *11. Approach life as an experiment*
So many golden nuggets in here! I've recently decided to adopt the slow living lifestyle as well, and what you share inspires me.
I'm experimenting with taking more time to do mundane things, like doing the dishes or cooking. Also started taking morning walks first thing in the morning, which I really enjoy!
Still a beginner on this path. I have a tendency to want to push the limit, be efficient, speed things up. But I'm now experimenting with doing the opposite: do less, do it more slowly, but do it well.

I find it lovely that, at a young age, you've learned that truly appreciating life is what matters. So many only discover this truth when they realize that they've grown old (too quickly) and time is fleeting.

*"without boredom, creativity has no space to drop in"* YES! I've had this exact thought so many times. Beautiful video and wise thoughts, this resonated with me so much. I watched your video on reducing social media from a wee while back, and I found it so helpful. Even this last week or two I've noticed such a wonderful improvement in my mental health and increased abundance in my creativity since cutting down on social media. On a side note, I'd love to see a video on your creative process, how you get inspiration, and how you capture such beautiful videography shots. Big hugs from Scotland 🤗🌿

I have just begun my exploration of slow living. This video is so helpful in understanding the essential steps to develop a mindset to' being' rather and 'doing'. I think the introduction of the fact that you still need to work is valuable, too many of the videos I have seen do not mention that 'bills have to be paid'. Personally I too have found dumping social media has been one of the best things I have done.

Heart of Kentucky. Simple Joys. When I use to sew quilt art by hand, hours and hours a day, new music compositions would pop into my head, even though I wasn't thinking one thought. I would have to get up to go to one of my instruments, to play it. I also had much poetry, and ponderings to write down, that also popped into my head, and they ended up in my homemade books. They say, women can multitask. At the same time, I see what you are talking about, to focus on one thing at a time. I'll listen to this video, over and over. Katie.

I've lived tiny 3 times and now I have a house that's just too much. It's not my forever home, but something that comes when you must care for the ones who cared for you when they were young. I hope to buy a travel trailer and explore the US, and I also want to experience narrowboats on the canals in the UK for some months. Then....Italy and who knows! You're an inspiration! @@helenawoods It’s a really good style! ...Incidentally, I’m 53, and currently looking after a cattle farm in the Scottish Highlands as a live-in volunteer. (I used to be a journalist and university lecturer, then an education advisor... so this is a totally different way of life for me. And one that really enables me to take pleasure in the simple joys!) The farmer, who is 66, is in the process of moving to France from the U.K. and has been over in France since the end of last year. He has a lot of stressful bureaucracy to deal with at the moment, trying to meet certain requirements in order to become resident in France and get permission to set up in business over there, made manifestly more complicated because of Brexit and lockdown. I emailed him one of your videos a few weeks ago, and he replied that the message really resonated, and that he was making sure he focused on the simple joys of the blossom on the apple tree in the garden, and the beauty of the old wooden beams he was using to renovate an outbuilding etc., in order to ensure that he is making the most of life whilst he is alone, in lockdown, waiting for the wheels of French bureaucracy to turn. I just wanted to tell you this so that you can see how your message, so beautifully communicated via your sumptuous videos, resonates with people of all ages, all over the world. Thank you for all the effort you put into creating the content you are uploading for viewers. It is really appreciated.

Your videos are so beautiful. You can really see the thought you put into them and I believe they have the desired effect. I was simultaneously relaxed, inspired, and moved to tears. Life has felt so busy since my second child was born. Oftentimes, I feel lost and overwhelmed. I've noticed that when I slow down, I feel calmer and more present...I'm the mom that I want to be. I let go of my slow pace a few months ago, thank you for the reminding me of who I want to be and how I can get there.

THIS is why I sold my car, despite living in a big city, where not having your own car draws ire and confusion from most people in my professional field. I have a professional degree (graduate degree).
One day, decided to walk as much as my beautiful full health body and legs would do. I love my body and legs and take care of them. I want to and my aim is to honor nature (e.g. sun, moon, trees, foliage, beaches, etc.) and animals, not material possessions. I walk everywhere or I take public transportation or a taxi, which is rare. If I want to go out farther, I can rent a car or take a train. After the pandemic is over, I'll resume air travel. Intentional choices are much closer to nature than following the crowd.

I can't remember when was the last time I was bored. Actually shocking to think one's life is all about multi tasking and priority lists!
Intentional living brings definitely more balance.
Thanks for sharing. You are a very wise young woman!

Good afternoon, Helena! How are you? I'm questioning my career and am making plans to step away from it. It's all-consuming, thankless and therefore toxic. There is more to life than working yourself into the ground. Have a great weekend. x

This video is so beautiful and the message really resonates with me! I am going to save this one to come back to! ❤ I have especially been feeling called to spend less time on social media (including TH-cam) and more time just living my life. I think time moves so fast now because it is so easy to lose hours scrolling online. Ah I love this video so much Helena! Your videos really lift up my energy! 💛💛💛

Well, my dear , I stumbled upon your posts on youtube and am glad I did! I am amazed and inspired by someone who is so wise and in touch with her life. I wish I had aquired your wisdom much earlier in my life, however I have no regrets, since I do not tend to dwell on my past life, just look forward to each day. Thank you for sharing!
