So who knew all these black men and women were a part of upper crust English culture, as opposed to being victims of a racist slave-owning society? I guess things weren’t that bad for blacks in the past then. That’s the message the creators and producers are giving with their “colour-blind” casting. Why they had black privilege back then apparently!
The point is that in their quest to add “diversity” in their casting, the creators have not chosen to tell stories about black people and their struggles and lives in any kind of accurate way. There was no racial diversity/harmony at that time. If there isn’t in our era, there most surely wasn’t in regency England. So why pick a period when there wouldn’t have been racial diversity in a society and pretend there was. This does not help blacks. They are being PC on the surface. But what’s next? An obese, wheelchair bound Asian Elizabeth Bennett? Isn’t it fat-shaming to pick slender actresses? What about quotas for disabled actresses. How about Asian actresses? They are under-represented in British TV and film. I expect to see it go to those lengths one day.
@@stymiedagain You make some interesting points. I sort of understand where you're coming from but it feels like a total lack of imagination to only tell stories about POC that are historically and factually accurate. That's the whole point of fiction to begin with. I personally was excited to see this trailer because its completely different from anything else on TV. I have watched so many historically accurate movies and biopics about slaves and racism and I do think they're incredibly important and need to be seen. But why shouldn't something like this, which is obviously pure entertainment and fluff starring POC, also be encouraged to exist?
It's not a documentary. It's simply inspired by and set in the regency period. We need both kind of stories: Those that show how it is/was and those that show how it could be/could have been. Sorry to inform you that even the majority of movies and shows "based on true events" or set in a certain time period take (great) liberties when it comes to (historical) accuracy - costumes, hair & make up, order of events, people involved, etc. - to make it more engaging or because it's "a design choice". And by the way, there were upper class POC. Doesn't mean they had it super easy, or slavery and any other structural/institutional racism, discrimination and so on wasn't that bad. Simply two different experiences.
@@aidenblack7038 haha thanks! Like i don't care it's not historically accurate. But thzn again the costumes were pretty accurate, with a hint of fantasy. But yeah... The corsets on skin.... Poor actresses..
I am not sure about changing actual history in movies and shows. Black people were enslaved, not high society back then. Who is it going to help imagining them having a blast in victorian times? This is really concerning because people forget how much they had to suffer with every movie added to the list.
This isn't a documentary though. And not all black people were enslaved. There were aristocratic black people and free men and women living and working in Britain in the 1700s onwards. And this is set in Regency England, not 'victorian times' as you call it. And it helps everybody by including some faces other than just those of white people. It challenges racist casting conventions and helps breakdown systematic racism and white privilege. Black people deserve to see people who look like them reflected in more than just depressing historical dramas about their oppression. It's not like this is The Crown with Queen Elizabeth or Princess Diana played by non white actors. This is a drama full of fictional characters, and not a realistic portrayal of Regency England with regards to dress, social mannerisms, etc, so what does it matter to see a few non white characters? I think it's fantastic, and will engage possibly resonate with and engage with a wider audience.

Yes that’s how I’ve heard it being described. I’ve also heard I little bit of pride and prejudice mixed in
Can't wait! Love the series😌
i love this so much finished it on the day it came out
I already love it so fucking much.🤩
Wow it's amazing how diverse 18th century Britain was.
Awe man only 8 episodes to start....guess I'll savor them.
I've watched the whole series twice!
Why don’t you put subtitles?

Yeah it was awesome!! I have watched it twice already. I absolutely love it!!! 😍 Rege-john as the Duke of Hastings is awesome. He is hawt ❤️❤️😋😍😍😍

One to miss!
Loved the ad! Having a man sell romance is brilliant!
Shonda Rhimes butchered the series
I love the bridgerton series
Got too woke that it became nonsense
I know... It's awful.. Yuck
Get woke become trash!
*Sigh* it's not "woke" because it has actors of different races. If you actually watched the damn thing you'd realize that it's problematic for reasons that matter (such as the way it treats consent) and not because you're scared that people can look different.
First of all, I'm Asian, you asshat.
I know the importance of diversity.
But, if you enforced diversity on smtg that's not there in the first place, then, it is the whole stupid woke culture.
I love the original series as it is.
Stop ruining things for other people just so u can be politically correct all the time.
Its exhausting 😪 😪
@@samuelkawengian737 yeap..trash is a suitable description

CANT WAIT TO THIS SERIES! ♥️ I Love the books so much 😭♥️ please netflix don't cancel on the first season!😡
I love how this have got the racists mad lolllll
They want historical accuracy and act like they can't and will not explain fiction from non-fiction to their distant cousins whom they'll never talk to in the first place. It's Hollywood it's supposed to be inaccurate in every way for entertainment. They don't understand it's a made-up story even the clothes are inaccurate.
Is a gift to all the sjw
😁😆😆😆😆
How come there are no brown or yellow actors? If this show is for representation, then it should be fair.
@@ro5marinu5 yellow actors? bro what 🤣
@@marienicole2554 Yellows refer to East Asians. It may be a derogatory term, I don't know how is that funny at all. As a person of mixed heritage, I don't find it insulting or funny. It is as it is.
I’m so EXCITED!!!!!! Who else is gonna binge the whole show the day it drops?
Merry Bridgerton Christmas 🎄

How can you put a series like criminal minds on pause, but then make another series of this crap.
December 25th?! That might be the best birthday present ever really!!!!

Loved the show! I've re watched it soo many time!!! I love all the cast!!!
One of Julia Quinn's historical romance series ❤❤
The moment they change the skin color of the characters it becomes another work of leftist fiction and not a historical drama!
yo a british period drama with black and brown people?? i'm so excited!
It isn’t historically actuate for us blacks and browns
Watching it now Awesome 😎😎😁
Please tell me this Dec 25th is a worldwide release. Or else. Imma cry ugly tears
Yuup..plan to get my muchies & clean PJs & park on the couch 😎👾
I literally watched it all day on Christmas.. It was cheesy but I loved it and I loved Pen!!
I can’t tell if you’re deliberately missing the point or...
Think you've missed the point - this is an escapist rom com fictional drama like the Crown pre- Megan.
why do they mix races, in that time races would not have mixed.
I haaaate the fact they're wearing corsets on skin, WITHOUT A CHEMISE!!!!
It's 2020, we need to stop doing this.
Outrageous!!!.......also some of the materials used for the dresses...quite surprising, was spandex available then? Enjoying it even though.
The only comment complaining about the historical inaccuracy that actually has a point. I applaud you friend :)
@@aidenblack7038 haha thanks! Like i don't care it's not historically accurate. But thzn again the costumes were pretty accurate, with a hint of fantasy.
But yeah... The corsets on skin.... Poor actresses..
Hmm sounds like gossip girl
Well this certainly looks... ostentatious
💅
@@Celeste-wx8ce Well said!
@@Celeste-wx8ce thank you for that comment. You changed my opinion/ point of view with it! I really understand the points you made here and think you are right. It is not a documentary and representation is more important. Thank you for educating me 👌✌️
Btw i'll let my first comment stay where it is. Maybe someone else's mind will be changed after clicking on the comments under it.
Also sorry for mixing up the periods or my english, i'm not british. Have beautiful holidays and stay safe.
Actually Queen Charlotte wife to George the third of England was biracial having a Portuguese ancestor that was from Africa and Queen Victoria adopted a girl from Nigeria in west Africa. So the history of people of color in Europe is much more nuance then just as enslaved people from the African continent.
@@d.7416 Thank you! I'm really glad.

Espero que hagan una nueva película de “El diario de Ana Frank”, con Keke Palmer o Lupita Nyong’o en el papel de Ana... Esperen, eso sería realmente estúpido verdad… Tan estúpido como Bridgerton.
That's extremely Tryfiling how the Duke kept pulling out of the Wife before the Nut,❤ and the wife had no idea what he was doing..🤔.. until she confided with the maid Friend🤷🤷... Typical, but I won't Go there... Enjoying the movie though...
This show was awesome and sexy as hell!
In the books , Simón is white ?someone who had read it
In the movie Simon is a beautiful BLACK man. The author of the books was involved with the project, she approved this.

Um, duh?
I never seen so many asains and blacks in a old century england. somebody really didn't read history, sheesh
Black people have been around since the beginning of time. White people insert themselves in movies that are historically black. Black people have the extraordinary gift and talent to present themselves in movies that are viewed as white time period fiction and make you believers. And we look damn good doing it. Black is so damn beautiful.

And also bridgerton
Is that Sam Claflin narrating?
So in this reimagined non prejudiced 1813 world, do they explain why it isn't prejudiced or what happened to change things? Cause that would help alot
Is it a color blind Regency Drama? I'm confused. I much prefer historical accuracy.
You must be an American. They are also often confused about the inclusion of black people in just about anything.
@@laande9868 Nop I'm Italian and we never ever had anything to do with slavery therefore it is not in my culture to be racist or color aware. Sorry to disappoint you, but you are wrong, prejudiced and uneducated. Did the black count here made his money as many British aristocracy members at that time by having plantations with slaves in the new world? That is the confusing part to me, why a black actor would ever want to play a Regency British aristocrat? What's next a plantation owner, just for the sake of inclusiveness and light entertainment? Hey genius never though about that?
@@AmazingJourney. what?
If this was a color blind drama, they should have brown actors there, too. I'm of mixed heritage, so why are black actors getting ahead of other non-White actors?
@@ro5marinu5 No, I'm talking about integrity here. Why a black actor would want to play a regency aristocrat? It's like a Jewess actor wanting to play a Nazi Auschwitz Kapo? But well obviously certain people don't see anything wrong with this is, it's all for black actors geeting ahead and for the greater good of light entertainement, after all nowaday integrity is such an old fashion thing, isn't it?
Too much diversity crap, it just does not fit the time and age back then.
What an excellent way to disguise your bigotry, by saying a black actor isn't accurate enough for you. It's a fictional show, who the hell cares what race they are?
It wasn’t suppose to nor ever claim to do that, it’s a dreamworld series
It's fiction and for entertainment purposes.
Is it just me, or is that Jules from WhatCulture?
Is that one of the narrators from Whatculture?
Can someone tell me who is the narrator?
This version of The Bridgerton is just a fashion show set in the XIX Century. In my opinion romantic - historical novels from the regency period or earlier, have a lot of material based on real customs and behaviors of the society of that time. I beleive The Bridgerton is a fantasy comedy and I really enjoyed it!

Pls tell me you cut the.... you know.... scene I’m begging the book was so good until then
Sadly then didn't but they tried to change the context and make it short enough that I accidentally skipped over it. I don't really have any authority to say wether or not they handled it in a good way so you'll just have to see for yourself and make your own judgement.
