In 1980/‘81, Weckl used to come to the house I grew up in outside NYC once a week in his silver Honda Civic hatchback and give me drum lessons in the basement (my drum practice room). He was living in Bridgeport CT at the time with Joel Rosenblatt (Spyro Gyro, among many others), going to school in the UB jazz program, and playing bar gigs around the area in a killer funk/fusion/R&B band called Nite-Sprite (I would sit 10 feet from him on his orange sparkle Gretsch kit at least once a week at the Crazy Horse in New Rochelle, NY for the price of a beer). Unbelievable, really, as I look back on it. His monster-like skill and talent left me realizing after a while that I would be wise to pursue another line of work (and I had some chops - I could play). Bro was different. As it turned out, I ended up becoming a corporate finance lawyer and eventually a medtech-focused money manager. Life certainly works in interesting ways.

I was 12 inches away from Chic and he was the nicest genius I have ever met. There was a child crying in the audience and he added the cry in his solo! I was stupefied that he was that aware. Been a fan of these guys ever since. Once in a lifetime and I owe it all to Gray!
Steven James Burks ...sure... that’s the beauty of technique. The “out of the drums” approach that Dave has adopted is great for some things... but other times you just need to get in there! 💪🏻
I was gonna say this was Weckl at his best, but I saw him live last year and he actually has gotten better. Other drummers have "revisited" their approaches as they got old, but usually their drumming just got simpler or sloppier. Weckl has managed to get more technically proficient while becoming more musically mature. Really a once in a generation player.
Dave's drums sounds absolutely magnificent here. And he's displaying such a nice balance between technique and musicality here. Huge fan of Corea, even the stuff before his Akoustic and Elektric bands. This is a great line-up.
Its hard to pick which era is my favorite for Dave but this early 90's time was so good. Also, when he had the Dave Weckl Band he was great too. He was great at holding it all together while playing complex patterns.
Highlight of my playing career was watching the Electrik Band play the Blue Note and sitting no more than 10ft from Dave. Sitting so close you can watch his technique clearly and in real-time. Amazing memory.

Always click on the drum videos well most of the time usually are amazed, wowed, then sad, frustrated and then remorse what if I never got a job, got married had kids and continued with my passion of playing the drums. Still love watching/listening to these amazing drummers

Drumers and musicians of this higher and elite echelon always leaves me and any comments totally speechless and overwhelmed with no words that would even dare attempt to search hi and low as afar in the languages of the world that I could find to give them true praise and jjustice about the pure and raw like drumming skills they possess!.....Totally speechless I am always left dumb founded!.
This band is crazy good. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it is encouraging to me that even three of the best EVER still get people giving their video a thumbs down.
I can't get over how so much time has passed in a flash. I saw these guys with Frank Gambale in 1986. All of Chick's bands were great. The last trio with Brian Blade and Christian McBride was awesome! Is Patitucci doing an Eddie Gomez sounding solo here?

Weckl's solo sound like a storm approaching. Called it a Weckl F5. Such a killing style before you can get damage relief. All vital sounds are good.
