This is the scene, with a giant robot T-rex battling a giant robot dragon while metal music rocks in the background, that I fell in love with Power Rangers, and Sentai as a whole.
Already seeing it Sentai was way better first time ever seeing a scene and they have less cuts to make

I've forgotten how great the fights were in the older sentai seasons and this reminded me that this was a kickass season.
I like the Japanese version better but the dagger sounds better in American version
Not only that. The Japanese version choreography was very agile yet the American version choreography was more athletic.

Something this comparison is missing is how the Sword of Evil equivalent is destroyed and why Jason doing it looked rather cobbled together when you really look at it.
Geki doesn't magically know how to vaporize the sword like Jason does. In fact, Burai isn't even brainwashed at all, simply manipulated into fighting his brother that he's long hated already. The Megazord (Daizyujin) actually talks to Geki after defeating the Dragonzord/Dragon Caesar, and...more surprisingly that Zords occasionally actually speak in the Sentai, *tell him to kill his now-defenseless brother.* Anyway, Geki refuses because of their blood, and when Burai tries to take advantage of it, he can't even bring himself to do the same with Geki's back willingly turned to him goading him into it. Neither of them are willing to kill the other, and it's that bond that causes the Sword of Evil to crumble into dust.
tl;dr: Jason got to skip the character development moment between the two because they're not a family rooted in tragedy. Even more ironic, Tommy later *does* have a brother who he's basically best friends with after sharing his Native American heritage with him.
You are very right, but unlike Jason who destroys Tommy's sword of darkness and breaks the spell it is true that there is no development in the character since Jason and Tommy are only friends from Angel Grove Academy, in the case of Zyuranger, Geki manages to defeat Burai one-on-one and when Geki refuses to kill his brother on Daizujin's orders he only turns around to renounce the battle leaving the opportunity open for Burai to take revenge but the that thanks to Burai's repentance after not being able to kill his own brother and the tears he sheds after asking forgiveness is that the Sword of Hellfriede dissolves and evil is extinguished from Burai's heart.
I find that the Japanese version is more violent than the US version , which isn't a bad thing. Plus Super Sentai uses words like Murder, kill, damn, hell...something the US MMPR version completely avoided back then.
I like the Japanese version more to a certain extend because of the storyline behind why Geki and Burai and at battle, and mind you I grew up on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers here in the US. It's almost like a breath of fresh air.
yep, I thought I'd try these Zyurangers what I've been missing all these years, boy was i missing some quality Sentai plot and lore, now i want to see Megarangers (Power Rangers In Space) in Space was a great installation of the Power Rangers licence.

I love the plot of this arc in Zyuranger because Burai wasn't under an evil spell like Tommy was, in fact Burai hated the Witch Bandora just as much as he hated the Rangers... He sought to rule the world because he had been raised by his adopted father to believe that his throne had been stolen by his brother Geki, and then when Geki's father killed Burai's adopted father, Burai's heart became filled with hatred and he wanted revenge for the death of his father and against Geki for "stealing his rightful throne"

Yes Jason the Red Ranger was the best fighter and best leader in the show's history. Tommy the Green Ranger was definitely the 2nd best.
I can't believe I am saying this about a 5-parter, but the Green With Evil story REALLY needed a 6th part. The first 4 episodes were intense, with everything falling apart, Jason being trapped and nearly killed etc. The american team were doing a GREAT job... until the 5th episode, where everything was rushed, and Tommy joined them WAY too fast. There should have been an episode of Tommy feeling guilty about what he had done and refusing to help the team... In fact, THAT is how they should have adapted all the DragonRanger episodes. They barely had any footage to use anyway, so they could have made Tommy a solo-Ranger that would help from tme to time, and finally making up for the things he did by saving the team and losing his powers in the process... Sadly the creators never did that. But it would have been an amazing way to adapt the Burai story, while still keeping it light.
Makes sense, but it was a kids show. To be honest, the only "kids" show that I can think of that required a thought process was "The Legend of Korra".
those 5 episodes they pretty much covered every part of the Burai arc. they added the whole Jason fighting goldar and green ranger in the dark dimension part just for filler and an excuse to keep him out of the second fight against the green ranger. the only part they didn't cover that I wish they did (how I don't know) was the burai trying to kill bandora and being banished to earth part, then after getting dragon ceasar, Grifforzer and lami fight him. that footage was used in Tommy's return episode but still, I love the green Ranger going rogue idea.

I agree.. I mean that's partly why I hated the American MMPR. It was too suspect. The dialogues were awkward and some of the scenes seemed indiscriminate. The answer is most of us never knew that MMPR was merely a redubbed version of the original Japanese Zyuranger. And we found out about it too late such as to the effect that our childhoods are affected by the realisation that all of this was actually Japanese work.
I never actually truly enjoyed most of MMPR long time ago in my childhood. Even as a kid I could clearly assert if something was sh*t therefore I knew MMPR was driving my patience for its obviousness.
Is there anything better than seeing the Megazord slowly rising to those famous guitar chords? 🎸

As a kid, I never released at the location at 4:00 is completely different from the location before it - the American footage adds a scene not in the Sentai version

The American series will always have a special place in my heart, but the original Japanese version is far and away the superior. It took itself serious, you felt the stakes and it had a lot of heart. Think I'm going to go watch it now. 😃

During the time Saban was adapting MMPR there was some considerations of adapting a fight scene with Jason and Tommy fighting each other human form before the suit fight (like in Zyuranger). But Saban pulled back because there was worrying about how violent the fight would be and conflicts with the characters moving forward during the series. Keep in mind when Saban released MMPR in 1993 some parents where somewhat worried by how dark and violent the show was for kids even with cutting the violent scenes and themes from Zyuranger.
plus one thing to also add is in the US we have a thing called TV Parental Guidelines and the fellas at the frick'n FCC :)

Adam Potters The image and sound is great but the subs are kinda shit. Track down the GUIS subs, and I'd recommend using those subs instead, though it's going to take some effort if you go that route.
I love how the area Jason and Tommy fight in suddenly turns from rocky to sandy.
I like Zyuranger because it's more violent and dark but I love MMPR as well. I just look at them as different TV shows.

The "Green With Evil" 5- Parter is pure nostalgic and climatic.
I never got to see chapter 5 until 2002. After watching chapter 4 from it's original broadcast (Friday) family n I had to move, no cable till couple days later but by then, I already knew Tommy is a good guy and I seen his from power loss of Green to the awesome might of White.
Like many I'm sure, my love for MMPR started here, with this battle. Green Ranger was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
What I like about the ZyuRanger version is that Burai is a rogue free agent during his evil rampage, not a servant of Bandora, he fought Griffozor and Lamie just as readily as he fought the ZyuRangers and the "sword of darkness" just made its wielder insane as we clearly saw with Burai. What finally got through to him (not seen here) was Geki saying that he refused to kill Burai despite winning and despite their differences, Burai realized then and there how much his brother loved him. It was a lot more intense than the MMPR version, which IMO had a bit too clean of a resolution.
Holy shit the Japanese version is 10x better than the U.S. version. I might never watch power rangers again and only watch the Japanese LOL I'm being dead serious

I am JDF fan, but i preffer Burai version. Because Burai had hes own motives to hate Zuyrangers, and wanted to Conquer the World! Btw Green and Red are brothers in original, which makes this fight dramatic.
That's the one thing I hated about the whole evil Green Ranger storyline. Because Tommy was brainwashed by Rita to be her servant, he had no personal motivation to wanna destroy the other Rangers. And that's unfortunately the "kids' show" way of thinking, which I personally think is bullshit.
When the 2017 reboot movie came out and teased Tommy in the mid-credits scene, I was hoping they'd write in a motivation for Tommy to serve Rita in the (not happening) sequel.
Like, Rita kidnaps Tommy's widowed mom and threatens to kill her if he doesn't serve her as the Green Ranger or the spell she puts on him shuts off his inhibitions and amplifies his deepest darkest desires; like the reason his mom is a widow is because his dad died the day the Rangers showed up and Tommy had an irrational distain towards them because of it. Sort of like _BvS_ but told in a more coherent way.

@@alexzero3736 Well, I feel sorry for you, because I personally feel that movie was better than it had any right to be. Sure, it took WAY too long to get to the Morphin' Time. But it made sense from a dramatic standpoint as a form of character development.
Plus, when you make a reboot, you CAN'T do the exact same thing. You have to change some stuff up. Spandex costumes wouldn't be convincing as battle suits made from ALIEN technology.
@@cjkalandek996 Honestly i dont feel that spandex is needed at all. Using costumes without big stupid helmets would be better, atlhough it s a trademark. Zyurangers btw did wield weapons sometimes without morphing , as another example there was series called Mystic knigts of Tyr-nanog, their morphing was giving them adequate armor and weapons with middle age fantasy designs.
About character development...just getting for free a magic thing that makes you superman is not a development. Even battle itself felt very easy.
I remember this being hyped as shit back in the day. Looking at it now, the Sentai version adds more to the fight than it just being a matter of "Good vs Evil". I wonder how well the story elements of the Sentai version would've translated well here in America like the two Rangers having bad blood between them already.

Geki was easily going to win the fight. Fighting defensively and reacting to your opponent makes it easier to find and exploit their blind spots/weaknesses. Fighting aggressively though effective, you overlook your opponents weakness in the effort of trying to break through their defence.
Thats bullshit. One Episode ago Burai defeated all 5 rangers and Megazord. That nerf was not ever explained..
@@alexzero3736 it kind of was. the Hellfried is to blame since its makes the user slowly go insane, Burai is a great fighter but even great fighters can't perform at their best when their mental state is deteriorating.
@@devildavin plus, geki wasn't willing to fight burai, which hurt the team even more as he was the only one who had a chance of defeating him, this was basically confirmed in the scene where daizyuzin was telling him to fight. add to that the fact that it was a 3 vs 1 where daizyuzin was weakened by the eclipse, and that burai had been humiliated by bandora and told he only had 30 hours to live prior to the fight with geki, and the nerf makes much more sense
I hate how PR fans will often compare this fight and say that Jason vs Tommy was epic.
News Flash! Jason and Tommy never fought at all. Not even their suit actors did as all of this whole “fight” was copy and pasted from japanese stock footage.
Burai vs Geki on the other hand was a real fight as the actors themselves insisted on doing the de-morphed portion of this fight without using stunt doubles because they wanted it to be epic and to be able to express their natural emotions.

Seeing the differences between mmpr and zyuranger morphing makes me wonder why mmpr made the rangers wear their morphers behind their backs instead of just up front and reversed like zyuranger. They might have been able to use more sentai footage in mmpr had they done that.
The juxtaposition of the Tyrannozord winning against Dragonzord while the tide turns in the Ranger battle is amazing.
Power Rangers is great, but Zyuranger was on top of it.
Jason The Red Ranger was the most Badass Ranger ever and also the Best Leader ever. Glad his Tyrannosaurus crippled Dragonzord and it was Epic when he hopped out of Megazord and defeated Green Ranger one on one.
After watching the original Zyuranger scenes, MMPR is so bullsh*t.
I think the japanese just does it better because America is always the teenager aspect. While the Japan put more depth in to the characters so the storylines were more fleshed out and developed.

It's crazy how even the sound effects of the giant things walking are better in the Japanese. There's a certain style to it that apparently the American producers (and many people in the comments) don't understand.
"So you're finally ready to settle things!?" Burai said this taunt because after Geki found out that Burai was his brother, he refused to fight him for the longest time, and this moment was when Geki finally mustered up the courage to challenge his brother to a final battle in order to save the world

The green ranger powers is stronger than the red ranger powers. Jason won by outsmarting Tommy charging his power sword knocking his weapons on the ground. Well Jason is also most likely a better fighter not morphed.

You were alone alright, while some of us were laughing when Red Ranger’s shoulders suddenly got more broader while firing the Ranger fun, when only seconds before, dudes were skinnier.
I watched the Power Rangers show when i was a kid, like most of you. But i think the Japanese is 999999999x times better. Watch it guys, its only 50 episodes (20 min each)

Their Jason (Geki) was far more punishing to their Tommy (Burai). Imagine Jason chopping a defenseless Tommy up after being disarmed. Those JDF fans would cry foul if that made it into MMPR footage!
